Durai Murugan Speaking at the executive committee meeting of the DMK Thiruparankundram victory will be a turning point: MK Stalin MADURAI: The DMK has always been committed to the welfare of the people and the party's victory in the Thiruparankundram byelection election could prove to be a turning point for Tamil Nadu, DMK treasurer MK Stalin said here on Sunday. Speaking at the executive committee meeting of the DMK in Perungudi, where he introduced the DMK candidate for the Thiruparankundram byelection, P Saravanan, Stalin said, "Saravanan is the designated and chosen candidate for the election. And as Thiruparankundram is the first abode of the Tamil god, Lord Muruga (also called Saravanan), it is fitting that we start our campaign in this constituency though Aravakurichi and Thanjavur are also going to the bypoll," he said. Stalin said that the DMK is the only party in Tamil Nadu to have registered a victory by winning more number of seats and also becoming the opposition by winning more number of seats. He said that the difference in the number of votes secured by the AIADMK and DMK in the recently held assembly elections had showed that they were just 4.75 lakh votes short of the AIADMK. "DMK is not a party that would huddle in a corner and sleep because of the defeats. You know very well who is lying down now," he said before hastily adding that it was the AIADMK and that he was not making a reference to any individual. The DMK is ready to convene an all-party meet on the Cauvery issue, because O Paneerselvam who is in charge of the chief minister's portfolio, failed to convene it, Stalin said. "In Karnataka, various political parties come together for a common cause. But, in Tamil Nadu, it is not so. The BJP, which ridiculed the meeting, is the same party, which stated that it is following the Supreme Court's ruling in the Jallikattu and refused to do so when it came to the Cauvery issue," he said. DMK deputy general secretary I Periyasamy said that the party would win the bypoll and urged the cadres to work for the victory.
