Sawda bint Zam'a
Married, though with limited rights. May 620. She was a tanner who had been an early convert to
Islam.
Muhammad married her at a time when he was unpopular and bankrupt. He considered divorcing her when, as the oldest and plainest of his wives (described as "fat and very slow"), she no longer attracted him, but she persuaded him to keep her in the house in exchange for never sleeping with her again (she gave up her turn to
Aisha).
Sahih Bukhari 2:26:740.
Sura 33:53: O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the
Prophet except when you are permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without seeking to remain for conversation. Indeed, that [behavior] was troubling the Prophet, and he is shy of [dismissing] you. But
Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not [conceivable or lawful] for you to harm the
Messenger of Allah or to marry his wives after him, ever. Indeed, that would be in the sight of Allah an enormity.
Sura 33:51 : You, [O Muhammad], may put aside whom you will of them or take to yourself whom you will. And any that you desire of those [wives] from whom you had [temporarily] separated - there is no blame upon you [in returning her]. That is more suitable that they should be content and not grieve and that they should be satisfied with what you have given them - all of them. And Allah knows what is in your hearts. And ever is Allah
Knowing and Forbearing.
Those who harass believing men and believing women undeservedly, bear (on themselves) a calumny and a grievous sin. O Prophet! Enjoin your wives, your daughters, and the wives of true believers that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): That is most convenient, that they may be distinguished and not be harassed
. [...] (Quran 33:58–59)
Abide still in your homes and make not a dazzling display like that of the former times of ignorance[Quran 33:32–3
During Muhammad’s lifetime no other women in the Ummah (
Muslim community) observed the hijab.
Instead, the term for donning the veil, darabat al-hijab, was used interchangeably with “becoming Muhammad’s wife”

Usama ibn Zayd, son of
Zayd ibn Harithah, defended Aisha's reputation. Muhammad came to speak directly with Aisha about the rumours. He was still sitting in her house when he announced that he had received a revelation from God confirming Aisha's innocence. Surah
24 details the Islamic laws and punishment regarding adultery and slander. Aisha's accusers were subjected to punishments of 80 lashes.Sahih Bukhari

Narrated
Ibn 'Abbas:
It was said to the Prophet, "Won't you marry the daughter of
Hamza?" He said, "She is my foster niece (brother's daughter). "Sahih Bukhari 5.234
Narrated Aisha:
The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to
Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down.
Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother,
Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became Allright, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "
Best wishes and Allah's
Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly
Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age.Sahih Bukhari

Narrated 'Aisha:
I used to play with the dolls in the presence of the Prophet, and my girl friends also used to play with me. When Allah's Apostle used to enter (my dwelling place) they used to hide themselves, but the Prophet would call them to join and play with me. (The playing with the dolls and similar images is forbidden, but it was allowed for 'Aisha at that time, as she was a little girl, not yet reached the age of puberty.) (Fateh-al-Bari page
