Some enchanted evening - South Pacific(1958 Movie)
Even though Juanita Hall sang in close to 900 performances of "South Pacific" on Broadway, according to vocal arranger Ken Darby her voice had taken on a much heavier tone by 1957 and she was having trouble sustaining high notes. Music director Alfred Newman thought that it was unnecessary to dub her and asked Ken to work with Hall on smoothing out her voice to a level and vocal style that Richard Rodgers would approve. By the time of the recording sessions she was singing better than she had in the original 1949 stage production, but even though she achieved a vocal quality closer to what Rodgers preferred, Rodgers was enamored with and always preferred Muriel Smith's voice (Smith played Bloody Mary in the London production). It was at his insistence that Hall's vocals were dubbed. No ...
Mitzi Gaynor filmed this number to this track, but it was highly edited for the released film. Oscar Hammerstein was on location in Hawaii and thought the number wasn't working as well as it had on Broadway. Director Josh Logan told him that people had been washing their hair in films for years, so it didn't have the novelty effect it had on stage. Here's the complete audio track with some footage added from the film's trailer and a behind-the-scenes short (thanks to HistoryofWidescreen and mikeystar5 for that). Apparently these lyrics were never recorded: You can't light a fire when the wood's all wet, You can't make a butterfly strong, You can't fix an egg when it ain't quite good, And you can't fix a man when he's wrong, You can't put back a petal when it falls from a flower, Or swee...
Mitzi Gaynor's performance is full of verve and vitality; having promised in the previous number to 'Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair', here she realises she has fallen head over heels in love. The odd colour of this clip is because the film was shot using filters; the director Joshua Logan had intended the tints to be subtle, but 20th Century Fox got their hands on it and turned them extreme. Listen to the full audiobook: http://easyget.us/mabk/30/en/B000PY3IOG/book Europeans' romanticist imaginings of people from the South Pacific have been around since the Enlightenment and have been significantly informed by the accounts of voyages to Tahiti by people such as Louis Bougainville. This book shows that the overtly promiscuous behavior that the French perceived as hospitality on the part of the Tahitians in 1768 was actually a defensive ploy, and that our contemporary image of sex and sexuality in Pacific Island societies is influenced by a fantasy based on this French misperception.this volume takes a very detailed look at traditional Tahitian culture and society and provides a realistic description of what happened on Tahiti when Europeans encountered the people who lived ther...

By exploring the construction of this art-world through the ways in which creativity and innovation are linked to social structures and social networks, this book investigates the social aspects of making fine art in order to present a collective theory of creativity. With a close examination of tourism, galleries and, of course, the artists themselves, Katherine Giuffre presents a detailed picture of a complex and multi-faceted community through the words of the art-world participants themselves. Theoretically sophisticated, yet grounded with rich empirical data, this book wi...
Listen to the full audiobook: http://easyget.us/mabk/30/en/B001E96IG6/book Campbell presents a study of the lives and experiences of Europeans and Americans in the age of early industrial overseas expansions, who became detatched from their own societies and lived, sometimes for many years, among Pacific Islanders as integrated members of their communities, often with little hope of returning home and frequently with no wish to do so. As engaging as primitivism was to European philosophers, the realities of contact between seafarers and islanders who faced previously unimagined technological and human marvels were much more pragmatic. Jealousy, ethnocentrism, and violence on both sides competed with humanitarian interests and indigenous hospitality to shape the emerging pattern of relation...
Read your free e-book: http://installapp.us/mebk/50/en/B000QCQXCG/book From the first European contact with Tahiti in 1767, the myth of the South Sea maiden has endured through many incarnations. Although the maiden frequently provided an idealized antidote to Western women's self-assertion, the South Pacific also afforded a space where boundaries between the sexes could be relaxed and transgressed. From James Cook and Captain Bligh to James Michener and Margaret Mead, the Island girl has occupied a special place in the erotic imagination of the West. In a sweeping study that embraces history, literature, visual arts, anthropology and film, this study gives fresh insight into the myths and reality of a Western icon.while women from far off lands have always been presented as exotic and all...

Explores the astonishing array of megalithic ruins found in the South Pacific, including the Latte Stones of the Marianas, the menhirs of Paulau, the megalithic canal city on Kosrae Island, and the ever-mysterious Nan Madol on Pohnpei Island. Researches Nan Madol to discover that it contains over 250 million tons of basalt columns strewn, partially submerged, over an 11 square mile area of artificial islands. Strange underwater buildings of this incredible city are found at 80 feet. Local legends insist the huge volcanic rocks, weighing up to 50 tons each, were levitated into place by mysterious island ancestors. Could Nan Madol and other megalithic remains in the Pacific have been built by the ancient Egyptians. A great theory, and this video provides a great deal of evidence in the for...
Bloody Mary:
Most people live on a lonely island,
Lost in the middle of a foggy sea.
Most people long for another island,
One where they know they will like to be.
Bali Ha'i may call you,
Any night, any day,
In your heart, you'll hear it call you:
"Come away...Come away."
Bali Ha'i will whisper
In the wind of the sea:
"Here am I, your special island!
Come to me, come to me!"
Your own special hopes,
Your own special dreams,
Bloom on the hillside
And shine in the streams.
If you try, you'll find me
Where the sky meets the sea.
"Here am I your special island
Come to me, Come to me."
Bali Ha'i,
Bali Ha'i,
Bali Ha'i!
Someday you'll see me floatin' in the sunshine,
My head stickin' out from a low fluin' cloud,
You'll hear me call you,
Singin' through the sunshine,
Sweet and clear as can be:
"Come to me, here am I, come to me."
If you try, you'll find me
Where the sky meets the sea.
"Here am I your special island
Come to me, Come to me."
Bali Ha'i,
Bali Ha'i,
