WELCOME TO 1989 and PARIS L HOLLEY

We were Now in 1989, I was Now 30 Years Old, Susan was 29 Years Old and the Kids, Nathan and Natalie were 10 and 8 Years, and We had Now been Living in the Same House for 7 Years!

Things were Going Alright at Home and Now I had a Decent Job with a Decent Wage, things were Going Fine at Work as well.

As I Mentioned Before, I had now been in my New Job for about 6 Weeks, and things were going Great, but I has Managed to get on Top of the Job and the Situation, I mean I had Never Worked in Such a Place Before and Never Had a Woman Boss Before!

What I Mean is, I was Used to Working in a Team, but Now I was In Charge of My Kitchen and My Area, on My Own, so I soon got Control of that Situation and it became to Easy, in a Way, it was Too Easy, in Fact I was Finding I was having a lot of Time on my Hands, because of my Preparation Work etc!

I had Never had a Woman Boss Before, and that Took some Getting Used To, also after a While Working with Her, She told me,  I was the First Full Time Bloke, (apart from One Part-Time Worker) that she had been in Charge of!

Because of How I Worked, I was Finding Myself Way ahead of my Work, this Led to 2 Things, Firstly I was Collared into Helping out the Other Staff Members with their Work, when I was Finished my Work and I Took up Reading Books!

Firstly Work Wise, I was a Chef/Cook in a Old People's Day Centre, but the OAP's had Dementia, this was a Bit of a Shock to me, at that Point, I Did Not Know of Any Relative or Person who had this Disease, and I was Expected to Help Out with Staff Member's Keeping the Old Folk Happy!

This Involved, Playing their Games with them, Taking Part in their Activities and so on, this was Something I was Not Used to Doing, Not with any Old Person, Let Alone Somebody who was ill, as well.

Some of the Things I Used to do were, Playing Games with
Beanbags, Footballs etc, Bingo, Sing-A-Longs, Competitions, Drawing's etc.

I Used to go Out on Mini-Bus Trips and Rides etc and Look after the Old Folk, Like Garden Centre's Trips or Ride Outs to the Countryside!

Secondly, I Started Reading a Lot of Book's, I Used to Sit on Top of the Freezer in the Back Store Room with a Drink and Read when Ever I had the Chance, My Boss was OK with this, as she Knew I had Everything Under Control, Food and Work Wise!

The Books I used to Read, Always Involved Mountains and Snow in Some Sort of Way, I have Always been Interested in Mountains,  the Trips and Adventures that People had to Them etc.

The Mountains I mean are The Alps and The Pyrenees in Europe, the Himalayas in Asia and the Ranges in Scotland, and North and South Americas.

I Ended Up Working at "The Garnham Day Centre" for About 5.5 Years, and in that Time I Must Have Read 100's of Books!
========================================================
Now for Some Music, Back in 1984 a Great Soul Track was Released in the U.S on the Kelli-Arts Record Label, It was called "I Choose You" and Sung by the Artist "Paris"

It wasn't Released in the U.K Until 3 Years Later in 1987, and it was on the "Bluebird Record Label"

The Song was Written by Paris (under his Full Name of Paris L Holley) and Otis Leavell and Carl Davis, the Song was also Produced by Leavell and Davis.

What a Great Soul Record this was, and Still Sounds Great Today!

SOUL AND FUNK MUSIC FOR SALE!

A Different Kind of Post this Week, if any you have Read any of my Posts before, you will Know I Brought my First Soul Record Back in 1972!

The 7" Single was "I Get The Sweetest Feeling" by Jackie Wilson, it was Actually for my Dad who Wanted the Record, he gave 50p and told me to go to Woolworths on the Bus to Buy the Single!

That same Year I started Buying more Soul Music, Starting with Cassette Tapes, Mainly Motown, which Most of them I still have in my Loft, this lead on to Vinyl Around 1973/4, Starting with Albums, then 7 inch Singles and Eventually a few Years Later 12 inch Singles.

By the Time I Left School in 1975, I was Spending Most of my Money on Soul and Funk Music, Mostly all on Vinyl by Now, I Remember we had some Great Record Shops in Great Yarmouth, back then, Not like now, I think Apart from Supermarkets there is Only One Second Hand Shop that Sells Music in Town Now!

Norwich is Nearly as Bad, but there again I No Longer Buy Any Music Whatsoever, as for Vinyl, I Stopped Buying them about 1990 and as for  CD's, I First Brought a CD back in 1989, then Brought 100's of them, but now, I Don't think I have Brought a CD for about 18 Months now!

During the Very Early 1990's, I had about 3000 Items of Music, in all Formats, it was then I started to Sell some of my Vinyl Albums, this went on for a Couple of Years, it was Quite Hard to Sell back then Before E-Bay etc, but I Sold a Few, only to Regret this Later, then when CD's Started to become a bit More Cheaper, I Started Replacing the Vinyl Albums I had Sold!

I Eventually Ended up with about 750 CD's at Least, then about 3/4 Years ago I Brought a Couple of Digital Players, i.e a Creative Zen and a Phillips Streamium, and that has Changed my Music Collection Again, I now have Most of my Music on them in Digital Form!

So this has Brought me to the Reason for this Post, I have Sold Quite a few of my Vinyl Records over the Years, but Still have about 150 Vinyl Albums Left, about 200 12" and 7" Singles, I also have about 200 Albums on Tape, not to Mention many Blues and Soul Magazines and some Black Echoes Papers, added to these I am Now Going to Sell all my 750 CD's!

In fact I Started Listing my CD's on Ebay about 3/4 Months ago, to see how they would Sell, in Fact I've Sold Quite a Few, and Last Week I Decided to Advertise them on Discogs, as this is More of a Specialist Site for Selling Music, Rather than Ebay!

Obviously its Takes Time to Put All my Music on there, but its Seems to be Worth at the Moment, I have Sold as Much in 3 Days as I did in about 2 Months on Ebay!
I Hope Eventually to put Everything I have on Discogs, but this will Take Time, I have Soul, Funk, Jazz, Electro, Rap, Disco, Dance and R&B on All Formats, Dating Back from the Mid 60's Right up until about 3 Years Ago!

The Most up to Date Music I  have Purchased is All of John Legend's CD's, Can't say I go to Much on Today's R&B Music, but I have a Wide Choice of All the Great Soul Singer's and Funk Band's from the Past, so Please have a Look at what I have put on Discogs, and Come back in the Future, as More Music  will be Added in Time!

PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY DISCOGS STORE

I will Write a Post on Each Artist, One Every Other Week!

ARTIST NUMBER 1..............JUNIOR WALKER

Born Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr on 14th June 1931 in Blythville, Arkansas USA, but Grew Up in South Bend, Indiana, He is Better Known as Junior Walker

He Started His Own Band in 1945 when he was 14 Years Old, they were Named the "Jumping Jacks"

Around  the Same Time Period, Junior Walker's Long Time Friend "Billy Nichols" (A Drummer) Started his Own Band, and they were Named the "Rhythm Rockers"

From Time to Time both Friends would Help the other one out in their Respected Bands.

During the Mid 50's, "Billy Nichols" had Secured Permanent Work for his Band at the Local TV Station in South Bend and asked "Junior Walker" to Join him and his Keyboard Player "Fred Patten" which he (Junior Walker) did!

Eventually Billy Nichols was Draughted into the US Army, so Junior Walker took over as Leader of the Band, he then Convinced the Band Members to Move to Battle Creek, Michigan.

By the Late 50's there had been Several Changes to the Band Members and  they also Decided to have a Name change, so the Rhythm Rockers became "The All Stars"

During a Performance in the Early 60's the Band were Spotted by Johnny Bristol, who in Turn Recommended them to Record Label Boss "Harvey Fuqua" he eventually Signed them up in 1961 to his "Harvey Record Label"

By this time, Junior Walker had become the Focal Point of the Band, so another Change of Band Name came into Play, they were now Called "Junior Walker & The All Stars"

The Band did Release a Couple of Singles during the Early 60's on the "Harvey Label"!

But Sometime Around 1963/64 "Harvey Fuqua" Sold his Record Label to Berry Gordy , who was the Head of Tamla Motown Records, so Junior Walker & All Stars now had a New Label, but they didn't Record for the Tamla Record Label, they were Assigned to a Motown Subsidiary named "Soul Records"

During this Early Period on the New Record Label, the Line-Up was to Change Again, and then by 1965 "Junior Walker & The All Stars" Released their Debut Album on "Soul Records" it was Called "Shotgun" and the Single of the same Name was to  Turn out to be "Junior Walkers" Signature Tune!

More Great Tracks on the Album were to Follow as Singles, Including Shake & Fingerpop, Do The Boomerang, Cleo's Back and of course I'm A Roadrunner!

Shotgun was to Reach the Top of the US R&B Chart and Peaked at Number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

During the Rest of the 60's, Junior Walker & The All Stars were to Release a Further 6 Albums:

1966 : Soul Session and Road Runner
1967 : A Live Album
1969 : Home Cookin', What Does It Take To Win Your Love and These Eyes.

During his Entire Career, Between 1965 and 1983, Junior Walker would Release a Total of 22 Albums and a Total Of 24 Singles.

He had a Great Record for Single Chart Placements, Not Many can Better this, All his 24 Singles got into the US R&B Charts and Only 3 Singles Did Not Get into the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, he also had 6 Singles Placed in the UK Pop Charts!

In 1979 Junior Walker Disbanded the Band and Decided to go Solo, and Joined Norman Whitfield's Record Label for a Couple of Year's, Without too much Success, so by 1982 he had Reformed the Band, but Chart Success was Never again to Happen to Junior Walker & The All Stars.

In the Mid 90's, Junior Walker would  have to Battle Cancer and Eventually on 23rd November 1995, he would Die from this Disease, he was Aged 64 Year's Old.

Please Read some of my Previous Posts on Junior Walker, as I have Mentioned Many Times Before in this Blog, Junior Walker was by Far my Favorite Saxophonist, I still Listen to his Music, Every Week, I also had the Pleasure of Seeing Him Live in Concert about 35 Years Ago, What a Great Night that was and Quite Possibly one of the Best Live Shows I have Ever Seen!
