Museums have been a part of human history for over 2,000 years -- but they weren't always like the ones we visit today. J. V. Maranto uncovers the evolution of museums, from the first museum in 530 BC (curated by a princess) to PT Barnum’s freak shows and beyond.

The British Museum is full of stolen artifacts
And so far, it isn't giving them back.
Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO
Some of the world’s greatest cultural and historical treasures are housed in London’s British Museum, and a significant number of them were taken during Britain’s centuries-long imperial rule. In recent years, many of the countries missing their cultural heritage have been asking for some of these items back.
Benin City in Nigeria is one of those places. They've been calling for the return of the Benin Bronzes, hundreds of artifacts looted in 1897 when British soldiers embarked a punitive expedition to Benin. Many are now housed in the British Museum.
And it's just the beginning. As the world reckons with the damage inflicted during Europe’s colonial global takeover, the calls for these items to be ...

Egyptian Museum (First Floor) Walking Tour
This walk was filmed on the evening of January 10th, 2019. I had limited time to film the museum since it was closing soon so this is a QUICK walk through. I walk past many exhibits. There was also very little light since it was dark outside and much of the museum is lit through the windows to the outside. Given that, I hope you enjoy this tour of the first floor of the Egyptian Museum. Thanks for watching!

Visit the Louvre Museum
Vidéo en français : http://youtu.be/7wXwwGXUMgE
How well do you really know the most famous museum in the world?
In the heart of the former home of the King's of France, stands the famous glass pyramids of Pei (extremely controversial in 1988). A few feet away, the artist Anselm Kiefer is installed in the northern staircase of la Cour carrée, for contemporary art also has a place inside the museum. A full program of temporary exhibitions, film projections and concerts makes the Louvre a fascinating place to be.
Thus, the Louvre is « a secular institution resolutely focused on the future ». More info: https://www.visitparisregion.com/en/musee-du-louvre

What if there was a museum that contained every type of life form in the universe? This experience takes you on a tour through the possible forms alien life might take, from the eerily familiar to the utterly exotic, ranging from the inside of the Earth to the most hostile corners of the universe.
New research is upending our idea of life and where it could be hiding: not just on Earth-like planets, where beings could mimic what our planet has produced, but in far flung places like the hearts of dead stars and the rings of gas giant planets. Nowhere in the universe is off limits.
Only when we know what else is out there will we truly know ourselves. This thought experiment will give us a glimpse into what could be out there, how we might find it, and just how far nature’s imagination might stretch.

Museums have been a part of human history for over 2,000 years -- but they weren't always like the ones we visit today. J. V. Maranto uncovers the evolution of museums, from the first museum in 530 BC (curated by a princess) to PT Barnum’s freak shows and beyond.

As the world reckons with the damage inflicted during Europe’s colonial global takeover, the calls for these items to be returned are getting louder and louder.
To dig deeper into the 1897 Benin Punitive Expedition and the Benin Bronzes check out this book by Staffan Lunden:

And this article in the Journal of African History by Philip A. Igbafe:

This walk was filmed on the evening of January 10th, 2019. I had limited time to film the museum since it was closing soon so this is a QUICK walk through. I walk past many exhibits. There was also very little light since it was dark outside and much of the museum is lit through the windows to the outside. Given that, I hope you enjoy this tour of the first floor of the Egyptian Museum. Thanks for watching!

Big thanks to Protocol Labs for their continued support of this series: https://protocol.ai.
Concept, visuals, and score by melodysheep, aka John D. Boswell. Narrated by Will Crowley. Additional visuals by Lynn Huberty, Tim Stupak, NASA, and Evolve. Featuring soundbites from Nick Lane, Jonathan Losos, Caleb Scharf, Shawn Domagal-Goldman, Chris Crowe, Jack Cohen, and Jill Tarter.

Today we get lost in optical illusions at Trick Eye Museum! In the same building is the Ice Museum, Hanbok Experience, Carnival and Caricature Shop. We also get naughty at the Love Museum, but in consideration of our younger viewers, we censored the R-rated bits. Whether it's a rainy day or you're seeking lighthearted amusement with family, friends and your date, head on over to this branch in Hongdae. Thanks to Hanna from 24HR KPOP-TV for joining us! (Note: This is a sponsored video.)
