Murray's wise words to Kyrgios

Andy Murray insists Nick Kyrgios is "always happy, friendly, nice to everyone".

While Andy Murray says he and Nick Kyrgios share locker-room chat about various  things - tennis, basketball, sport in general - the world No.2 has offered himself as a willing sounding board for far more substantial issues. "You don't want to see young guys who are in the spotlight struggling and making mistakes," Murray says. "Doing things that ultimately hurt them."

Kyrgios not sorry enough

Despite the hefty fine, Nick Kyrgios took home more than half of his second round loser's prizemoney.

Among all the bad decisions Nick Kyrgios made on Wednesday in Shanghai (not trying, or even pretending to, verbally brawling with the crowd, et al), the last was to be unapologetic about the effort he had just not made. It was hard to know what was worse: the on-court non-performance, or what followed in the interview room.

Season in doubt as Tomic retires early again

Stomach soreness has put the rest of Tomic's season in doubt.

Painfully, in several respects, Bernard Tomic has retired mid-match for the fourth time this season. The 40 minutes he played against Spanish 15th seed Roberto Bautista Agut  may also  be the Queenslander's last in what has been a slightly below-expectations year.

Kyrgios' hot streak continues

On fire: Nick Kyrgios extends his winning streak to six after a win in the Shanghai Masters.

The new Nick Kyrgios headed straight from the court to the gym after his 6-4, 6-4 Shanghai Masters defeat of Sam Querrey for some injury-prevention and strengthening work with fitness coach Martin Skinner. The old Nick Kyrgios might have done, well ... not that.

Wild card spree predicted for Sharapova

Maria Sharapova will be back in 2017.

Maria Sharapova can expect a spree of wild cards when she returns to the game at the end of next April, according to Steve Simon, the head of the Women's Tennis Association.

Kyrgios returns to Hopman Cup to defend title

Holding on tight: Daria Gavrilova and Nick Kyrgios with the Hopman Cup.

The planned venue for Roger Federer's comeback from injury will also be the site of Nick Kyrgios' New Year return, with the Australian electing to defend the Hopman Cup title he won with Daria Gavrilova rather than contest the ATP tournament in Brisbane in the same season-opening week.
