Barbados (i/bɑːrˈbeɪdɒs/ or /bɑːrˈbeɪdoʊs/) is a sovereign island country in the Lesser Antilles, in the Americas. It is 34 kilometres (21 mi) in length and up to 23 kilometres (14 mi) in width, covering an area of 432 square kilometres (167 sq mi). It is situated in the western area of the North Atlantic and 100 kilometres (62 mi) east of the Windward Islands and the Caribbean Sea; therein, it is about 168 kilometres (104 mi) east of the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and 400 kilometres (250 mi) north-east of Trinidad and Tobago. Barbados is outside of the principal Atlantic hurricane belt. Its capital is Bridgetown.
Inhabited by Kalingo people since the 13th century, and prior to that by other Amerindians, Barbados was visited by Spanish navigators in the late 15th century and claimed for the Spanish Crown. It first appears on a Spanish map from 1511. The Portuguese visited the island in 1536, but they left it unclaimed, with their only remnants being an introduction of wild hogs for a good supply of meat whenever the island was visited. An English ship, the Olive Blossom, arrived in Barbados in 1625; its men took possession of it in the name of King James I. In 1627, the first permanent settlers arrived from England, and it became an English and later British colony.

Barbados Cruise Excursion: the Boatyard. We arrived in Bridgetown, Barbados on the fourth day of our port-intensive cruise on the Carnival Valor. With no planned shore excursions and only a vague plan of how we were going to spend the day, we were at the mercy of the cab drivers lined up at the pier. David, our taxi-driver/tour guide drove us through Bridgetown, with many stops, over the mountain, and we finally arrived at our destination, “The Boatyard” Beach Club with much less time left to spend there than we would have liked. Lunch, one drink, two beach chairs, an umbrella, and a ride back to the ship were all included in the $15 admission price. We had a great time, eating flying fish sandwiches, drinking rum punch, swimming, and soaking up the sun. We had planned to hire a local beac...

How to describe to your friends a ride one one of Barbados' famous [infamous?] minibuses? Hopefully this video helps! Commonly referred to as reggae buses by tourists because of the loud dancehall music some of them play, these minibuses are definitely an experience to be had while visiting Barbados. Many other Caribbean islands have what Bajans refer to as ZR vans that also play loud music, but I think minibuses are something that set the Barbados experience apart from the rest. They have become part of the Barbados cultural experience, and I would say they are a boost to the Barbados tourism industry, especially when it comes to attracting young thrill seeking tourists, but really tourists of all age groups seem to appreciate the unique experience. I have also curated a playlist called "...

http://bookinghunter.com Barbados is the easternmost island in the Lesser Antilles. It is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, east of the other West Indies Islands. The most important places to visit in Barbados are: Harrison's Cave (even on the hottest day in Barbados it's cool down below in this popular show cave, which is also a nice rainy-day option), Hunte's Garden (horticulturist Anthony Hunte has transformed a sink-hole in the middle of a rainforest into a lush and beautiful series of gardens that are open for tours that may include an encounter with Hunte himself), George Washington's House (George Washington really did sleep here -- he visited Barbados in his youth along with his brother, Lawrence, during his first foray outside what would later become (thanks to his leadership) the...
