The 1986 World Exposition on Transportation and Communication, or simply Expo 86, was a World's Fair held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from Friday, May 2 until Monday, October 13, 1986. The fair, the theme of which was "Transportation and Communication: World in Motion - World in Touch", coincided with Vancouver's centennial and was held on the north shore of False Creek. It was the second time that Canada held a World's Fair, the first being Expo 67 in Montreal (during the Canadian Centennial). It was also the third World's Fair to be held in the Pacific Northwest in the last 26 years as of 1986 and as of 2015 it still stands as the latest World's Fair to be held in North America.
The logo of three interlocking rings to make the 86 in the logo stood for the three main modes of transportation; land, air, and water.
Up until the late 1970s, the 173 acre (0.7 km2) site on False Creek, where Expo was staged, was a former CPR rail yard and an industrial wasteland. In 1978, Sam Bawlf (then BC Minister of Recreation and Conservation) proposed an exposition to celebrate Vancouver's centennial year (1986). The proposal was submitted in June 1979, for a fair that was to be called "Transpo 86." In 1980, the British Columbia Legislature passed the Transpo 86 Corporation Act, paving the way for the fair. The transportation theme reflected the city's role in connecting Canada by rail, its status as a major port and transportation hub, and the role of transportation in communications.

Various shots of buildings, performers, and sights during the fair. Interesting to see skytrain travelling inside a building during a later shot.
It's been 30 years since Expo 86 came to Vancouver. And to mark the anniversary, one city councillor wants to throw a party. Aired: October 17, 2015

Bob never went to Expo 86. To get validation he tries to track down the symbol of Expo: Expo Ernie. He comes up against a few dead ends, a stolen replica, the prototype turned art piece, but eventually he gets his robot. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TELUS Optik Local supports compelling, original stories told by filmmakers from BC and Alberta by providing production funding, training and exposure to new audiences. Bom, a melhor descrição pra esse vídeo é que eu tinha acabado de acordar e decidi gravar uma música folk pop indie underground. E não, eu não penteei o cabelo.

[Lyrics Death Cab for Cutie - Expo '86] Sometimes I think this cycle never ends We slide from top to bottom and we turn and climb again And it seems by the time that I have figured what it's worth The squeaking of our skin against the steel has gotten worse But if I move my place in line I'll lose And I have waited, the anticipation's got me glued I am waiting for something to go wrong I am waiting for familiar resolve Sometimes it seems that I don't have the skills to recollect The twists and turns of plots that took us from lovers to friends I'm thinking I should take that volume back up off the shelf And crack it's weary spine and read to help remind myself But if I move my place in line I'll lose And I have waited, the anticipation's got me glued I am waiting ...

I recorded it from a TV broadcast and using an Akai VS-603 Hi-Fi VCR (broadcast was mono though) Captured using a Panasonic AG-1980P VCR into a ADVC-110 and iMovie. Enjoy!!!!
More footage, including the sky bucket ride, various pavillions, and general people watching

The 1986 World Exposition on Transportation and Communication, or simply Expo '86, was a World's Fair held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from Friday, May 2 until Monday, October 13, 1986. The unexpected hit at Expo '86 ended up being the Street Theatre program which could be sited as the beginning of the Street Theatre Revolution in Canada. Gary, a Vancouver resident and amateur videographer captured hours of footage on his Sony Video 8 camera and gave artists his word that the footage would remain in his private collection unless he received their express written permission to share it with the world. Nearly 30 years later, Gary ran into Mike Bonnici (Dyna-Mike) at an event in Vancouver and mentioned the collection to him. Mike passed Gary's information along to David Aiken, ed...
Sometimes i think this cycle never ends
We slide from top to bottom and we turn and climb again
And it seems by the time that i have figured what it's worth
The squeaking of our skin against the steel has gotten worse.
But if i move my place in line i'll lose.
And i have waited, the anticipation's got me glued.
I am waiting for something to go wrong.
I am waiting for familiar resolve.
Sometimes it seems that i don't have the skills to recollect
The twists and turns of plots that turned us from lovers to friends
I'm thinking i should take that volume back up off the shelf
And crack it's weary spine and read to help remind myself
But if i move my place in line i'll lose.
And I have waited, the anticipation's got me glued.
I am waiting for something to wrong
I am waiting for familiar resolve
I am waiting for another repeat
Another diet fed by crippling defeat
And i am waiting for that sense of relief
I am waiting for you to flee the scene
As if you held in your hand the smoking gun
And on the floor lay the one you said you loved.
And it's strange
They are basically the same
So i don't ask names anymore.
Sometimes i think this cycle never ends
We slide from top to bottom and we turn and climb again
And it seems by the time that i have figured what it's worth
The squeaking of our skin against the steel has gotten worse.
