Houston is the fourth most populous city in the nation and is the largest in the southern U.S. and Texas. Within eight to ten years it will surpass Chicago and become the third largest city in the nation.
The Houston-Galveston-Brazoria Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area (Houston CMSA) consists of eight counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller.

The Houston Dynamo is a Major League Soccer franchise that has been based in Houston since 2006.

Houston is the seat of the internationally renowned Texas Medical Center, which contains the world's largest concentration of research and healthcare institutions.[196] All 49 member institutions of the Texas Medical Center are non-profit organizations. They provide patient and preventive care, research, education, and local, national, and international community well-being.

York City Football Club is a professional association football club based in the city of York, North Yorkshire, England. The team compete in League Two, the fourth tier of league football in England, as of the 2015–16 season.
First founded in 1908, the club played seven seasons in non-League football before folding in 1917. A new club was formed in 1922, and played in the Midland League for seven years before joining the Football League. They played in the third tier until 1959, when they were promoted for the first time. York achieved their best run in the FA Cup in 1954–55, when they met Newcastle United in the semi-final. They fluctuated between the Third and Fourth Divisions, before spending two seasons in the Second Division in the 1970s. York first played at Wembley Stadium in 1993, when they won the Third Division play-off final. At the end of 2003–04 they lost their Football League status after being relegated from the Third Division. The 2011–12 FA Trophy was the first national knockout competition won by York, and they returned into the Football League that season.

Texas Huntress Hunting Wildebeest, South Africa-(GRAPHIC CONTENT)
In Fall of 2009, I hunted black wildebeest in Africa in order to again "meet my meat." My wonderful guide was Chris Bolton, of Zungah Safaris, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. After the hunt, we transported the meat to a well-known Cape Town Chef, Pete Goff, of The Kitchen Cowboys. This was a very emotional experience for me and my friend, Sonja Kroop, who was shooting most of the footage. We had not anticipated the hunt nor filming, when we arrived to visit a friend in Cape Town, so the footage quality is old mini-dv, not high quality HD. Some viewers may find this to be GRAPHIC CONTENT, as it shows the killing of an animal for food.

Chances are, if you’re visiting Houston, you’ll need a car. Heavy traffic and aggressive drivers can make driving in Houston difficult, so avoid the rush hour as often as possible.
On the bright side, there’s lots of inexpensive or free parking and the layout of the streets isn’t too confusing.
As long as you have a good map and you allow plenty of time for travel, you’ll be fine.
If driving is not an option for you, you’re not completely out of luck. Houston’s light rail system may not be the locals’ first choice for getting around, but it covers the downtown and a few other areas. It’s also inexpensive and easy to use.
But Houston is huge, so if you want to see much more than the downtown area you’re going to need another way to get around. The bus system will take you much further, though it may not always be a quick trip.
Both the light rail and the bus system are operated by the METRO system, and can be paid for with the same money card.
Visit the METRO website for maps, schedules, information about pricing, and a trip planner.
If all else fails, you can always take a taxi. You might be able to hail one on the street if you’re downtown, but it’s usually best to call one.

In Fall of 2009, I hunted black wildebeest in Africa in order to again "meet my meat." My wonderful guide was Chris Bolton, of Zungah Safaris, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. After the hunt, we transported the meat to a well-known Cape Town Chef, Pete Goff, of The Kitchen Cowboys. Established in 2003, Threewalls has grown from a start-up exhibition space to a vital visual arts organization supporting contemporary art through solo exhibitions, residencies, grants, publications, conferences and commissioning programs. With Green Lantern Press she founded and published (via Threewalls) PHONEBOOK, a guide to contemporary independant and artist-run projects, now in its 4th volume, and The Artists Run Chicago Digest, a companion, appraisal and extension to the exhibition of the same name at The Hyde Park Center. She is a co-founder of The Common Field, a national alliance of and advocacy group for small-scale visual arts platforms and their producers.
Stratton writes, curates exhibitions and other experimental projects, and relishes opportunity for administrative and pedagogical experiments. Projects include: Resonating Bodies, The Soap Factory, Minneapolis; Ps & Qs, The Glassel School of Art, Houston and The Hyde Park Arts Center, Chicago (with Jeff Ward); Things to Be Next To at Charlotte Street Foundation, Kansas/Threewalls, Chicago (with Kate Hackman); Bellwether at Vox Populi, Philadelphia; Reskilling at Western Front Exhibitions, Vancouver, Canada (with Luanne Martineau) and Gestures of Resistance: Craft, Performance, and the Politics of Slowness (with Judith Leemann) a panel discussion and exhibition at the College Art Association, Dallas, Texas and The Portland Museum of Craft, Portland, Oregon. In the summers she works with her partner Joe Jeffers on 8550 OHIO in SE Appalachian Ohio, coordinating projects including residencies, festivals and site-specific architecture. Her "weird social experiment" (to quote one of her students), Party As Form, a class in group dynamics and transitional spaces, was hosted by Ox Bow School of Art in Michigan in 2013 & 2014.
In 2010 Stratton was named one of the top 5 most vital people in the visual arts in Chicago by NewCity. In 2011 she was a fellow of the NAMAC Visual Arts Leadership Institute and a finalist for the Chicago Community Trust Emerging Leader Award. Stratton was 1 of 9 leaders in the arts featured in the Chicago Tribune 2011 Chicagoans of the Year. In 2013 Newcity named her one 50 "Visual Vanguards."
Stratton teaches in Art History, Theory & Criticism and Fiber & Material Studies departments at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was appointed Critical Studies Fellow at The Cranbrook Academy of Art for fall 2012. In 2013 she was a recipient of the Alberta College of Art Board of Governors' Alumni Award of Excellence.
Current research and upcoming projects include: Threewalls relocation and opening of adjacent speakeasy, The General Idea; curatorial residecies at Elsewhere in collaboration with Joe Jeffers and at The Kinsey Institute in conjunction with Threewalls; residency at Cannonball, Miami (dates TBD); exhibition "A Chain of Conspicuous Absences" (on the limits of exchangeability). Shannon curated the 1st retrospective of Faith Wilding's painting and drawing work at Threewalls in January 2014. The exhibition will travel to other locations, including Rhodes College, Memphis, TN and The Pasadena Armory, Pasadena, CA in September 2015.

The Houston area is a leading center for building oilfield equipment.[103] Much of its success as a petrochemical complex is due to its busy ship channel, the Port of Houston.[104] In the United States, the port ranks first in international commerce and 10th among the largest ports in the world.[13][105] Unlike most places, high oil and gasoline prices are beneficial for Houston's economy, as many of its residents are employed in the energy industry.[106] Houston is the beginning or end point of numerous oil, gas, and products pipelines.
