Volkswagen Polo 'beats' special edition revealed

German brand teams up with audio company for limited run city car.

Volkswagen is hoping Dr Dre can help it sell small cars. 

The German brand has confirmed it will offer 400 Polo 'beats' special editions locally, utilising an audio system from the brand founded by the American rapper and producer.

Based on the Polo 81TSI Comfortline, the 'beats' edition comes with a 300-watt sound system that delivers the audio via two tweeters, two woofers and two full range speakers with a subwoofer and an eight-channel amplifier.

The audio system is integrated though the car makers infotainment system.

Styling touches include contrast coloured door mirrors, two-colour lower body decals, 'beats' badging on the B-pillar, darkened tail lights, high-gloss black radiator grille and is capped off with 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the Polo gets 'beats' logo on the front seats, cloth trim seats in a star pattern with grey Alcantara highlights, fake leather door trim, 'beats' badging on the front speakers, seat belts with contrast red stitching and front door sill plates with 'beatsaudio' badges. Each vehicle also comes with a pair of red beats Solo2 headphones.

Priced from $21,990 and $24,490 before on-road costs for the manual and DSG variants respectively which represents a $2000 premium over the standard 81TSI Comfortline model.

The 'beats' edition is still powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 81kW and 175Nm.
