Hady Mirza (Malay: حدي ميرزا; born 28 January 1980) is a Singaporean singer. He is the winner of the second season of the reality TV show Singapore Idol. He was crowned the winner on 25 September 2006 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium after garnering 70% of about one million votes cast by television viewers.

He was also the winner of the world's first Asian Idol competition held on 16 December 2007 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Asian Idol is a competition between six Idol winners from several different Asian countries, namely Singapore Idol, Malaysian Idol, Indonesian Idol, Indian Idol, Philippine Idol and Vietnam Idol.

Hady is most known for his smooth R&B voice and charming personality. He is the second male winner, following Taufik Batisah.

Singapore Idol

Singapore Idol is a reality television singing competition created by Simon Fuller and produced by MediaCorp Studios and FremantleMedia Operations BV. It began airing on MediaCorp Channel 5 on August 9, 2004, as an addition to the Idol franchise based on the UK show Pop Idol, and became one of the most popular shows in the history of Singaporean television.

The concept of the series is to find new solo recording artists where the winner is determined by the viewers. Through telephone and SMS text voting, viewers have chosen as winners Taufik Batisah, Hady Mirza and Sezairi Sezali.

The series employs a panel of judges who critique the contestants' performances. The original four judges during season 1 were singer/songwriter Dick Lee, Florence Lian, record producer Ken Lim and singer Douglas Oliverio. In season 2, all the judges from season 1 returned to the show except for Oliverio who was replaced by singer Jacintha Abisheganaden. In season 3, Abisheganaden left the judging panel and the rest of the judges returned to the show. From the start, the show has been hosted by Singapore celebrity and funnyman Gurmit Singh. Radio deejay Daniel Ong was the co-host of the show for season 1 and 2, while season 2 winner Hady Mirza replaced him as the co-host during season 3.

Daniel Ong

Daniel Ong (full name Daniel Ong Ming Yu Chinese: 王盟友 born 27 December 1975) is a Singaporean entrepreneur and co-founder of Twelve Cupcakes, a Singapore based chain cupcakery. He was a radio deejay in Singapore's MediaCorp Radio 987FM and television host, and is an award winning DJ having picked up the most popular radio personality awards in the Singapore radio awards in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Daniel is well known for playing the role in Singapore's television sitcom Mr. Kiasu as Kiasee as well eas co-hosting the second season of Singapore Idol in 2006. He hosts the Dan and Young show on 987FM on weekdays, 5am to 10am with Mr Young (Young Leong).

He managed the station for 15 months and then stepped down due to the long working hours of juggling the morning show with managerial duties. He announced on 22 January 2010 that he is leaving 987FM and the radio industry at large, to spend time with his new family. Despite these claims, Ong has stated, if given the opportunity he would take up a position at Class 95. He will be a free lance host and voice talent in the interim. He formerly hosted "The Wrong Way Home" on Singapore's Radio 91.3FM.

Gurmit Singh

Gurmit Ottawan Singh (born 24 March 1965;(Punjabi: ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਓਤ੍ਤਵਨ ਸਿੰਘ; Chinese: 葛米星; pinyin: Gémǐ Xīng), better known as Gurmit Singh, is a Singaporean actor, host and comedy performer. He is best known for his role in Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd, and was an artiste in MediaCorp.

Life

Born to a Punjabi Indian father, Chainchal Singh and a Chinese–Japanese mother, Gurmit was brought up as a Sikh, but converted to Christianity in 1985. Gurmit Singh studied in Outram Secondary School during his secondary school years.

Gurmit is married to Melissa, a Cantonese Chinese. He has three children, Gabrielle (Gabbi Wenyi Ayane Virk, born 1997), Elliot (born 2000) and Mikaela (born 2013). Gurmit is an alumnus of National Police Cadet Corps, Singapore and held the rank of Cadet Inspector. He drives a Grigio Telesto Lamborghini Gallardo.

Career

Making his debut in the variety show Live on 5 in 1994, he then became the host and lead actor of sitcom Gurmit's World. The second season of Gurmit's World, in which Gurmit portrayed his 'relatives' in a series of skits (unlike the first season where he played a wide assortment of mostly non-recurring characters), featured the first appearance of a character named Phua Chu Kang. The Singlish-based spin-off sitcom Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd in 1996 made Gurmit a popular icon in the recent years, not only in Singapore, but also in neighbouring countries (especially culturally similar Malaysia). This factor led him to be the host of Singapore Idol. In the past few years, Gurmit has also won the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes at the Star Awards.
