Thousands of people are out on the water across Southwest Florida this Labor Day weekend, and many of them gathered at Picnic Island for the "Sandbar Extravaganza."

Rasdhoo Madivaru has one of the most spectacular – and confusing – reef formations to be found in Ari Atoll. A narrow spur, like a suspension bridge, extends out from the reef of Rasdhoo Madivaru part of the across the channel rising to a pick at 13 meters. On the seaward side of the spur, the reef descends almost vertically to around 200 meters. The deep blue waters on the outside of the spur contrast with the turquoise blue reflecting from the sand floor at 30 meters on the inside of the channel. Along the spur is a profusion of fish life ranging from pelagic like schooling barracuda, trevally and tuna fish to reef fish like blue striped snappers fusiliers and school of flame basslet.

On a lunch hour field trip we visited this park, which happens to be so close to MacDill AFB I didn't even think we'd be able to fly. Turns out, the AFB isn't on the DJI No-fly list (dumb?) and there were no limitations.. I didn't get too crazy in this one, but the park is very beautiful! If you look closely in the first minute I believe we can see either a Strato-tanker refueling plane or some other kind of large military cargo plane on approach to the landing strip.

Picnic Island
Picnic Island is a small, privately owned, rocky island, with an area of about one hectare, part of the Schouten Island Group, lying close to the eastern coast of Tasmania near the Freycinet Peninsula. It is composed of sandstone overlying granite.
Picnic Island has recently been put on sale by its owner, with an asking price of $500,000 - $1 million.
Fauna
Recorded breeding seabird species are little penguin and short-tailed shearwater. The spotted skink is present.

Island
An island /ˈaɪlənd/ or isle /ˈaɪl/ is any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls can be called islets, skerries, cays or keys. An island in a river or a lake island may be called an eyot or ait, or a holm. A grouping of geographically or geologically related islands is called an archipelago, e.g. the Philippines.
An island may be described as such despite the presence of an artificial land bridge, for example Singapore and its causeway, or the various Dutch delta islands, such as IJsselmonde. Some places may even retain "island" in their names for historical reasons after being connected to a larger landmass by a wide land bridge, such as Coney Island or Coronado Island. Conversely, when a piece of land is separated from the mainland by a man-made canal, for example the Peloponnese by the Corinth Canal, it is generally not considered an island.
There are two main types of islands: continental islands and oceanic islands. There are also artificial islands.

Picnic
A picnic is an excursion at which a meal is eaten outdoors (al fresco or en plein air), ideally taking place in a scenic landscape such as a park, beside a lake or with an interesting view and possibly at a public event such as before an open-air theatre performance, and usually in summer. Descriptions of picnics show that the idea of a meal that was jointly contributed and was enjoyed out-of-doors were essential to a picnic from the early 19th century.
Picnics are often family-oriented but can also be an intimate occasion between two people or a large get-together such as company picnics and church picnics. It is also sometimes combined with a cookout, usually a form of barbecue; either grilling (griddling, gridironing, or charbroiling), braising (by combining a charbroil or gridiron grill with a broth-filled pot), baking, or a combination of all of the above.
On romantic and family picnics, a picnic basket and a blanket (to sit or recline on) are usually brought along. Outdoor games or some other form of entertainment are common at large picnics. In established public parks, a picnic area generally includes picnic tables and possibly other items related to eating outdoors, such as built-in grills, water faucets, garbage containers, and restrooms.

On a lunch hour field trip we visited this park, which happens to be so close to MacDill AFB I didn't even think we'd be able to fly. Turns out, the AFB isn't on the DJI No-fly list (dumb?) and there were no limitations.. I didn't get too crazy in this one, but the park is very beautiful! If you look closely in the first minute I believe we can see either a Strato-tanker refueling plane or some other kind of large military cargo plane on approach to the landing strip. -

Savaii Samoa - Into Water & Beyond, holiday travel guide part 3/4
We caught the ferry over to Savaii to spend a few days. There are fales dotted all along the coastline so we thought that the best way to get in and experience the local lifestyle was to actually stay in a traditional fale. We stayed at Tanu Beach Fales and they provided a mattress and mosquito net and we slept right by the waters edge and went to sleep with the sound of the water lapping up on the sand. There is a lot to explore on this huge island and we visit the Saleaula Lava Field, swim with turtles at Satoalepai, throw coconuts in to the blow holes, cross the swinging bridge at Falealupo Canopy Walkway and hang out with some of the locals. Hi my foxes, today you'll be visiting the island of Lanai. Sixth largest of the Hawaiian islands. Lanai is 18 miles long, with a population of approximately 3000. There are no stop lights on the island and only a few main roads are paved, many landmarks are accessible only by dirt roads.
If you plan to go exploring and get off the beaten path, rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle. However, if you're coming over from Maui on a day trip and just want to relax on the beach and walk around town (Lanai City), it's not necessary to rent a car.
After departing the ferry at the Manele Small Boat Harbor, it's a short 5 minute walk to Hulopo'e beach, a sunny white sand beach and marine preserve. It's an overall beautiful beach to relax on, snorkel, watch dolphins, enjoy a picnic, go for a hike along the coast... There are public restrooms, which were very clean and well maintained, might I add.
From the beach, you can walk up to the hotel overlooking the bay, the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele. It's plush, luxurious, and a room here will run you a cool $480 and up a night.
At the hotel, you can ask for a shuttle day pass, it's $10 per person and allows you to get on/off the shuttle all day. Though keep in mind, this is just general transportation, it only makes a few stops. It's not about to take you 4-wheeling or touring all the landmarks you want to see around the island. That's something you'll have to go for on your own. ;)
The Lanai landscape features contrasts ranging from white sand beaches with coconut palms swaying in the breeze to golden grasslands and rugged red earth to pine tree forests.
It's a small island but well worth exploring. This was a good day trip for relaxing. Though Michael and I always love an adventure, so I can see our next Lanai trip may involve 4 wheeling and getting a little dirty. ;D

We caught the ferry over to Savaii to spend a few days. There are fales dotted all along the coastline so we thought that the best way to get in and experience ...
We caught the ferry over to Savaii to spend a few days. There are fales dotted all along the coastline so we thought that the best way to get in and experience the local lifestyle was to actually stay in a traditional fale. We stayed at Tanu Beach Fales and they provided a mattress and mosquito net and we slept right by the waters edge and went to sleep with the sound of the water lapping up on the sand.
There is a lot to explore on this huge island and we visit the Saleaula Lava Field, swim with turtles at Satoalepai, throw coconuts in to the blow holes, cross the swinging bridge at Falealupo Canopy Walkway and hang out with some of the locals.
You can find beautiful romantic resorts in Savaii and we stayed at Le Lagoto Resort with a elegant mix of traditional and modern decor. As soon as you walk in to this resort you know you are in a tropical paradise.
A wonderful experience not to missed is their Sunday church service. Being a highly Christian country, there are churches of every denomination and Sunday is their day of church, family and rest. See the locals in their beautiful Sunday best and singing from the heart with their angelic voices.
And at the end of the day we head to Falealupo Beach which is at the western most point of Samoa to see the first sunset in the world. Take a picnic and enjoy your stunning surrounds.

2. A stroll down Fira. Enjoy the magnificent view of the glistening caldera. We don't recommend the cable car. Try lunch at Mama's House
3. Wine Museum. Santorini has a selection of wine museum that you can chose from and enjoy.
4. Kamari beach. Buy a beer from the local market and enjoy this beautiful black beach
5. Picnic at Pyrgos. Pyrgos is the highest point of the island Santorini. Stop by a beautiful restaurant for coffee and enjoy the panaromic view of the island from here.
6. Sunset at Akrotiri lighthouse
7. Dinner at Metaxi Mas in Exo Gonia
8. Play with the cats of Santorini
9. Enjoy a dip in your private jacuzzi or pool (a lot of hotels come with these in Oia and Fira)
10. Stop by the pretty blue dome churches and take a moment to enjoy it's beauty

Pattaya is a popular beach resort on the Gulf of Thailand just 150 km southeast of Bangkok a mere two hour drive. Pattaya pulsating nightlife is well known but local authorities have in recent years improved the quality of the beaches and reinvented the resort as a more family friendly destination. Today hundreds of thousands of visitors are drawn each year to Pattaya to windsurf water ski swim sunbathe snorkel sail or take trips to nearby islands. Other activities include Bungee jumping cycling skydiving gokarting Muay Thai boxing and Paintball. Golfers both novice and expert are well catered to as well with a wide selection of golf courses around Pattaya. Another major draw for visitors to Pattaya is the wide selection of restaurants serving some of Thailand's freshest seafood.
