Mike Malaska's career has spanned over 37 years of instruction as well as competing at the highest professional levels on the
Asian Golf Tour and the
PGA and
Champions Tours since turning pro in
1976. He has based his golf instruction philosophy on decades of "putting his knowledge to the test" in competition. His understanding of the golf swing, as well as his expertise at being able to analyze his student's own physical capabilities, has made him one of the most sought after instructors in the world today. Mike has spent countless hours researching every aspect of playing and teaching the game. He has compared hundreds of different philosophies from the vast number of golf instructors, and now has simplified how the game should be taught. His goal is for every player, at any age and skill level, or with any physical handicap, to be able to enjoy and reap the rewards of the game.
A graduate of
Weber State University in
Ogden, Utah, he was a college "
All American" in
1974 and was inducted into the
University's "Athletic
Hall of Fame" in
February 1999.
Weber State honored Mike in
September, 2013 with the "Distinguished
Alumni Award" for his service to his community and to the University's Golf
Program.
Malaska has competed in a number of
Asian Tour, PGA, and
Champions Tour events, including the
1988, 2009, and
2010 PGA Championships, and the
1982,
1986 U.S. Open Championships as well as multiple PGA
National Club Pro and National
Senior Club Pro Championships. Mike won the
2011 Southwest Section "Senior
Player of the Year", and the
2013 Southwest Senior Section
Championship with scores of 68, 68.
Awarded the "
Utah Section PGA
Teacher of the Year" (
1996), the "Southwest Section PGA Teacher of the Year" (2010) and the "PGA
National Teacher of the Year" (2011), Malaska is a highly sought-after guest lecturer throughout the world. He has spoken at the PGA Teaching and Coaching Summits, the
World Golf Fitness Summit in
2012 and numerous national corporate functions. He has appeared many times on the
Golf Channel and in television commercials for products that he has endorsed.
Honored as one of
Golf Magazine's "Top
100 Teachers" since
2000, and currently ranked 15th in
Golf Digest's Ranking of the Top 50 Instructors, he has been featured in hundreds of publications including cover stories for Golf Magazine, Golf Digest and PGA Magazines.
In 2004, Malaska produced his own instructional
DVD, "
You Are Your Own
Swing," featuring detailed golf and fitness instruction. In June of 2013, Malaska authored and released his first instructional book, "I
Feel Your
Pain," (with the forward written by
Jack Nicklaus) to rave reviews.
Mike worked alongside the late Jim
Flick with the
Nicklaus/
Flick Golf Schools from
1991 through
2002 and served as director of instruction for the Jack Nicklaus Golf
Center in
Tokyo, Japan (1992-1995). He was voted "Teacher of the Year" in
Japan in
1993. Malaska has worked as a consultant to TaylorMade/Adidas Golf
Worldwide since 2000, and presently travels the nation educating their staff professionals. Malaska established Malaska
International Golf in 1993 and also owns Malaska Golf in
Mesa, Arizona. He is the Worldwide
Director of
Instruction for the Jack Nicklaus Golf Academies, the PGA Director of Instruction for the
Superstition Mountain Golf and
C.C. and the Las
Sendas Golf
Club in the
N.E. valley of
Phoenix, Arizona. His students have included multiple PGA and
LPGA Tour players, as well as celebrities and prominent political figures.
