I met this Italian girl in Delhi when she was about to start her India trip. She spoke of starting from the top ie Kashmir but had been warned by other people not to go because "there are muslims there" and "there is conflict". We ended up becoming good friends and at the end of my trip I invited her to come see Kashmir and stay with my family.
This is her journey.

In this video I share a few glimpses of my sublime journey to the oh-so-beautiful Srinagar and Ladakh located in the northern most state of India- Jammu & Kashmir. It is indeed the most serene and surreal place, particularly Ladkh, that I have ever been to in India. I was blown away by the natural landscape and at the same time amazed for being unaware that such a place existed in our very own India! I must say it is definitely a must do in everybody's bucket list :)

Sonamarg, Srinagar, Kashmir, India: Sonamarg or "Meadow of Gold" is a popular tourist attraction and hill station in Ganderbal district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Sonamarg is situated at the bank of Nallah Sindh, 87 km north-east from Srinagar and at an altitude of 2800 metres above sea level. The journey from Srinagar to Sonamarg by car along Srinagar-Ladakh Road or National Highway 1D is spectacular. The journey is upwards of sixty miles long valley and deep rock-girt gorge to open grassy meadow land and village-dotted slopes. Nallah Sindh, the largest tributary of the Jehlum River will be your companion along the entire journey.
This video was captured during our journey to Sonamarg by car from Srinagar, Kashmir in May 2014. The journey to Sonamarg itself is a memory for the life. Watch how the landscape is gradualy changing as proceed towards Sonamarg. Please watch the video till end to enjoy fully.

Krishnasar Lake, Sonamarg - Located at a height of 3801 m above sea level, Krishnasar Lake is one of the most mesmerizing lakes in Sonamarg. Surrounded by dense alpines, the place offers cool and pleasant atmosphere. The lake is popular for trout fishing while people also enjoy other water activities here.
Thajiwas Glacier, Sonamarg - Sonamarg offer many adventurous routes with amazing green water & frozen lakes around and Thajiwas glacier is a one such major tourist attraction in the region. Located 7 km from Sonamarg, it is an ideal spot for enjoying a sledge ride on the snow even in mid-summer. The nearby area is perfect camping site too.
Nilagrad River, Sonamarg - Situated 6 km from Sonamarg is the Nilagrad River, a major attraction known for its reddish water. According to the locals, the water has curative power of various diseases and many people visit this place every Sunday to bath in the river.
Vishansar Lake, Sonamarg - Perched at a height of 3710 m above sea level, Vishansar Lake lies around 35 km from Shitkadi, Sonmarg. With a length of a kilometre and a width of 0.6 km, this charming lake is among the visitor’s delight in Sonmarg. The spectacular surrounding with snow covered mountains and meadows around with alpine flowers make it a haven for trekkers and adventure lovers. Besides, the lake is home to different species of fishes.
Zoji-La Pass, Sonamarg - About 20 km east of Sonamarg is Zoji-la pass, the gateway to the Ladakh plateau. Situated at a height of about 3,528 m above sea level, the pass connects Kashmir Valley to Ladakh, Kashmir Valley to its south and Ladakh to its North. It is an ideal spot to enjoy the scenic beauty.

Kashmir Travel Video Diary & Guides - Part 2 is about my journey to Gulmarg, Kashmir via Srinagar from Jammu by road. My destination was Indian institute of skiing and mountaineering (IISM). A very scary & hungry travel time which took me over 40 hours to reach due to snow fall and other local authorities rules and regulation, yet it was very fun and interesting.
I took the bus for Jammu at 9:30 PM on 18th evening and the all the bus heading to Srinagar kashmir were stopped at end of Jammu city after half an hour of running by Kashmir police for safety and security purpose all night in the highway. We stayed there till 5 AM in the morning then bus started running. And in the way we got caught by rainfall and snow fall which made a huge traffic jam and we had stop in many places for hours. The general travel time from Jammu to Srinagar is 7-8 hours which took over 30 hours to reach. As the bus was dropping at Srinagar while city would have been sleeping so I chose to go with person I got introduced in bus....and next day I reached to Gulmarg, my destiny, Indian Institute of skiing & mountaineering around 1 PM . A very long journey but a very beautiful journey. The beautiful scenery, first time snow falling memory, night walk in unknown kashmir, getting lost in snow.. all were my favorite times.

Srinagar
Srinagar /ˈsriˌnʌɡʌr/ (
listen ) is the largest city and the summer capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It lies on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus, and Dal and Anchar lakes. The city is famous for its gardens, waterfronts and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dried fruits.
Origin of names
Folk etymology draws the city name from two Sanskrit words: śrī ("glory, prosperity", a name for the goddess Lakshmi) and nagar("city"), which would make "City of Lakshmi" (or, "City of Prosperity").
However, the earliest records mention the name as siri-nagar which in turn is a local transformation of the original Sanskrit name sūrya-nagar, meaning "City of Sun" (or, of sun god).
History
Ancient period
The Burzahom archaeological site located 10 km from Srinagar has revealed the presence of neolithic and megalithic cultures.
According to Kalhana's 12th century text Rajatarangini, a king named Pravarasena II established a new capital named Pravarapura (also known as Pravarasena-pura). Based on topographical details, Pravarapura appears to be same as the modern city of Srinagar. Aurel Stein dates the king to sixth century CE.

I took the bus for Jammu at 9:30 PM on 18th evening and the all the bus heading to Srinagar kashmir were stopped at end of Jammu city after half an hour of running by Kashmir police for safety and security purpose all night in the highway. We stayed there till 5 AM in the morning then bus started running. And in the way we got caught by rainfall and snow fall which made a huge traffic jam and we had stop in many places for hours. The general travel time from Jammu to Srinagar is 7-8 hours which took over 30 hours to reach. As the bus was dropping at Srinagar while city would have been sleeping so I chose to go with person I got introduced in bus....and next day I reached to Gulmarg, my destiny, Indian Institute of skiing & mountaineering around 1 PM . A very long journey but a very beautiful journey. The beautiful scenery, first time snow falling memory, night walk in unknown kashmir, getting lost in snow.. all were my favorite times. I met this Italian girl in Delhi when she was about to start her India trip. She spoke of starting from the top ie Kashmir but had been warned by other people not to go because "there are muslims there" and "there is conflict". We ended up becoming good friends and at the end of my trip I invited her to come see Kashmir and stay with my family. This is her journey. Kashmir Travel Video Diary & Guides - Part 2 is about my journey to Gulmarg, Kashmir via Srinagar from Jammu by road. My destination was Indian institute of skiing and mountaineering (IISM). A very scary & hungry travel time which took me over 40 hours to reach due to snow fall and other local authorities rules and regulation, yet it was very fun and interesting. The tourist attractions around Sonamarg are:
Krishnasar Lake, Sonamarg - Located at a height of 3801 m above sea level, Krishnasar Lake is one of the most mesmerizing lakes in Sonamarg. Surrounded by dense alpines, the place offers cool and pleasant atmosphere. The lake is popular for trout fishing while people also enjoy other water activities here.
Thajiwas Glacier, Sonamarg - Sonamarg offer many adventurous routes with amazing green water & frozen lakes around and Thajiwas glacier is a one such major tourist attraction in the region. Located 7 km from Sonamarg, it is an ideal spot for enjoying a sledge ride on the snow even in mid-summer. The nearby area is perfect camping site too.
Nilagrad River, Sonamarg - Situated 6 km from Sonamarg is the Nilagrad River, a major attraction known for its reddish water. According to the locals, the water has curative power of various diseases and many people visit this place every Sunday to bath in the river.
Vishansar Lake, Sonamarg - Perched at a height of 3710 m above sea level, Vishansar Lake lies around 35 km from Shitkadi, Sonmarg. With a length of a kilometre and a width of 0.6 km, this charming lake is among the visitor’s delight in Sonmarg. The spectacular surrounding with snow covered mountains and meadows around with alpine flowers make it a haven for trekkers and adventure lovers. Besides, the lake is home to different species of fishes.
Zoji-La Pass, Sonamarg - About 20 km east of Sonamarg is Zoji-la pass, the gateway to the Ladakh plateau. Situated at a height of about 3,528 m above sea level, the pass connects Kashmir Valley to Ladakh, Kashmir Valley to its south and Ladakh to its North. It is an ideal spot to enjoy the scenic beauty.

Sonamarg, Srinagar, Kashmir, India: Sonamarg or "Meadow of Gold" is a popular tourist attraction and hill station in Ganderbal district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Sonamarg is situated at the bank of Nallah Sindh, 87 km north-east from Srinagar and at an altitude of 2800 metres above sea level. The journey from Srinagar to Sonamarg by car along Srinagar-Ladakh Road or National Highway 1D is spectacular. The journey is upwards of sixty miles long valley and deep rock-girt gorge to open grassy meadow land and village-dotted slopes. Nallah Sindh, the largest tributary of the Jehlum River will be your companion along the entire journey.
This video was captured during our journey to Sonamarg by car from Srinagar, Kashmir in May 2014. The journey to Sonamarg itself is a memory for the life. Watch how the landscape is gradualy changing as proceed towards Sonamarg. Please watch the video till end to enjoy fully.

Krishnasar Lake, Sonamarg - Located at a height of 3801 m above sea level, Krishnasar Lake is one of the most mesmerizing lakes in Sonamarg. Surrounded by dense alpines, the place offers cool and pleasant atmosphere. The lake is popular for trout fishing while people also enjoy other water activities here.
Thajiwas Glacier, Sonamarg - Sonamarg offer many adventurous routes with amazing green water & frozen lakes around and Thajiwas glacier is a one such major tourist attraction in the region. Located 7 km from Sonamarg, it is an ideal spot for enjoying a sledge ride on the snow even in mid-summer. The nearby area is perfect camping site too.
Nilagrad River, Sonamarg - Situated 6 km from Sonamarg is the Nilagrad River, a major attraction known for its reddish water. According to the locals, the water has curative power of various diseases and many people visit this place every Sunday to bath in the river.
Vishansar Lake, Sonamarg - Perched at a height of 3710 m above sea level, Vishansar Lake lies around 35 km from Shitkadi, Sonmarg. With a length of a kilometre and a width of 0.6 km, this charming lake is among the visitor’s delight in Sonmarg. The spectacular surrounding with snow covered mountains and meadows around with alpine flowers make it a haven for trekkers and adventure lovers. Besides, the lake is home to different species of fishes.
Zoji-La Pass, Sonamarg - About 20 km east of Sonamarg is Zoji-la pass, the gateway to the Ladakh plateau. Situated at a height of about 3,528 m above sea level, the pass connects Kashmir Valley to Ladakh, Kashmir Valley to its south and Ladakh to its North. It is an ideal spot to enjoy the scenic beauty.

Kashmir Travel Video Diary & Guides - Part 2 is about my journey to Gulmarg, Kashmir via Srinagar from Jammu by road. My destination was Indian institute of skiing and mountaineering (IISM). A very scary & hungry travel time which took me over 40 hours to reach due to snow fall and other local authorities rules and regulation, yet it was very fun and interesting.
I took the bus for Jammu at 9:30 PM on 18th evening and the all the bus heading to Srinagar kashmir were stopped at end of Jammu city after half an hour of running by Kashmir police for safety and security purpose all night in the highway. We stayed there till 5 AM in the morning then bus started running. And in the way we got caught by rainfall and snow fall which made a huge traffic jam and we had stop in many places for hours. The general travel time from Jammu to Srinagar is 7-8 hours which took over 30 hours to reach. As the bus was dropping at Srinagar while city would have been sleeping so I chose to go with person I got introduced in bus....and next day I reached to Gulmarg, my destiny, Indian Institute of skiing & mountaineering around 1 PM . A very long journey but a very beautiful journey. The beautiful scenery, first time snow falling memory, night walk in unknown kashmir, getting lost in snow.. all were my favorite times.
