Arab citizens of Israel is the Israeli government's designation for non-Jewish Israeli citizens, the majority of whose cultural and linguistic heritage or ethnic identity is Arab. Many identify as Palestinian and commonly self-designate themselves as Palestinian citizens of Israel. The traditional vernacular of most Arab citizens, irrespective of religion, is the Palestinian dialect of Arabic. Most Arab citizens of Israel are functionally bilingual, their second language being Modern Hebrew. By religious affiliation, most are Muslim, particularly of the Sunni branch of Islam. There is a significant Arab Christian minority from various denominations as well as Druze, among other religious communities. Israeli Mizrahi Jews are not usually considered to form part of this population.
According to Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics, the Arab population in 2013 was estimated at 1,658,000, representing 20.7% of the country's population. The majority of these identify themselves as Arab or Palestinian by nationality and Israeli by citizenship. Many have family ties to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as well as to Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. Negev Bedouins and Druze tend to identify more as Israelis than other Arab citizens of Israel.

Israel (/ˈɪzreɪəl/ or /ˈɪzriːəl/; Hebrew: יִשְׂרָאֵל Yisrā'el; Arabic: إِسْرَائِيل Isrāʼīl), officially the State of Israel (Hebrew: מְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵל Medīnat Yisrā'el [mediˈnat jisʁaˈʔel]; Arabic: دولة إِسْرَائِيل Dawlat Isrāʼīl [dawlat ʔisraːˈʔiːl]), is a country in the Middle East, situated at the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and the northern shore of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea. It shares land borders with Lebanon to the north, Syria in the northeast, Jordan on the east, the Palestinian territories (which are claimed by the State of Palestine and are partially controlled by Israel) comprising the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the east and west, respectively, and Egypt to the southwest. It contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area. Israel's financial and technology center is Tel Aviv, while Jerusalem is both its self-designated capital (unrecognised by the United Nations) and its most populous individual city under the country's governmental administration. Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is internationally disputed.

Dear Arab citizens of Israel, Muwatinuna al arab al aezaa, Before my election, I said Arabs voters were going to the polls in droves. I was referring to a specific political party but many people were understandably offended. I apologized for how my comment was misunderstood. But today I want to go further. Today I am asking Arab citizens in Israel to take part in our society—in droves. Work in droves, study in droves, thrive in droves. Israel is strong because of our diversity and pluralism—not in spite of it. Over 20% of Israel's citizens are Arabs. And you have achieved incredible heights: Supreme Court justices, members of parliament, renowned authors, entrepreneurs, high tech business-owners, doctors, pharmacists. I am proud of the role Arabs play in Israel's success. I want you ...
Israel's elections for parliament next week [17th March] hold the potential not only of a new prime minister emerging, with a move towards centre left, but also of a change in the main opposition force, with Arab Israelis represented as never before. Haneen Zoabi has advocated for Palestinian causes as an MP in Israel's Knesset since 2009. The handful of Arab members in parliament have often been reviled as enemies within the system. Last week, a violent heckler forced Zoabi to leave a publ… READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2015/03/09/israel-s-arab-citizens-brandish-new-electoral-power What are the top stories today? Israel has 1.7 million Arab citizens, some 20 percent of the country's population. Yet Arab Israelis hold few leadership positions in the country -- and nearly half of the country's Arab population live in poverty. This spring, Arab Israeli lawmakers rallied under a unified political bloc for the first time, ushering a new generation of Arab Israeli lawmakers into parliament who intend to change the status quo. Special correspondent Martin Fletcher reports from Israel. View the full transcript: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/israeli-arabs-join-forces-knesset-change-status-quo/#transcript
Hebrew/Arabic/Nat XFA Israel's one point two (m) million Israeli Arab citizens hold the key to Prime Minister Ehud Barak's chances of re-election in the forthcoming vote on February 6. Barak won overwhelming support from Israeli Arabs in 1999 on campaign promises to conclude a peace deal with the Palestinians and address bitter complaints by Israel's largest minority about discrimination by the government. But just 18 months on, many Israeli Arabs feel betrayed by Barak and are so bitter that they are threatening to boycott the upcoming elections, even if this might help bring to power the hawkish Ariel Sharon. In the 1999 election, 77 percent of Israeli Arab voters turned out, and of those casting ballots, 95 percent supported Barak. This time, however, many Arabs are sayi...
The Israeli foreign minister and head of the right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu party Avigdor Lieberman suggested during a campaign event that Arab citizens of Israel, who are disloyal to the state, deserve to be decapitated. “Can you imagine John Kerry making a similar statement about the Mexicans, or the Hispanics, or the Blacks in the United States. Imagine John Kerry saying publicly that you have to have their heads chopped off with an ax,” Harel added. Channel "RT TV" http://rt.com/news/239025-lieberman-behead-disloyal-arabs/
