Josh (band)

Josh, sometimes stylized as JoSH or as Jösh is a Canadian Indo-Pakistani Bhangra music group formed in 2000 in Montreal. Present members are "Rup" (Rupinder Magon) and "Q" (Qurram Hussain). Their songs showcase both modern and traditional bhangra beats and music, but are strongly influenced by hip hop and pop music.

Career

Josh was founded in 1996 by Rup Magon with his brother, Rik Magon, and friend Shiraz 'Shazi' Hussain. They were joined by Qurram 'q' Hussein, Rup's in 1998, and two years later Rup and Q embarked on their own path for JoSH as a duo without Rik and Shiraz.

While JoSH may be less known in their home country of Canada, they are very popular in South Asia, particularly in India and Pakistan. Their second album, Kabhi, as well as its title track, remained in both Indian and MTV World Top 20 lists for 26 weeks from October 2004 to January 2005. Additionally, JoSH was awarded MTV India's 2004 "Immie" award for Best New Non-Film Artist.

JoSH has collaborated with Grammy winner Nelly Furtado with bhangra remixes of her singles "Powerless (Say What You Want)", "Promiscuous" and "Maneater". They were also featured in Nelly Furtado's tour in India.

Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse

"Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse" (English: When the clouds rain someday) is a romantic Hindi song from the 2013 Bollywood film, Jackpot. Composed by Sharib–Toshi, the song is sung by Arijit Singh, with lyrics by Turaz and Azeem Shirazi. The music video of the track features actors Sunny Leone and Sachiin J Joshi. A female version of the same song was released as part of the film soundtrack, which was rendered by Shreya Ghoshal.

Background

The song is composed by Sharib Sabri and Toshi Sabri. In the composition, the duo infused piano notes and sound of rainfall with minimal music arrangements. Lead actor of the film, Sachiin J Joshi assisted music director Sharib–Toshi in developing the track. Director of the film, Kaizad Gustad said; "[Joshi] has an amazing sense of rhythm and has contributed significantly to the music of the film". The song appears four times in the soundtrack album of the film. The original version was sung by Arijit Singh while the female version was rendered by Shreya Ghoshal and it includes two remixes of the male version. British Asian music producer Rishi Rich re-mixed the song, fusing traditional Bollywood sounds with the vocals of Singh, along with the voice of British reggae vocalist Maxi Priest. Mixed by Rich, a higher tempo on a club mix version of the song was released as part of the soundtrack.

Phir Kabhi

Phir Kabhi is a 2009 Hindi-language Indian feature film directed by V. K. Prakash for producers Ronnie Screwvala and Pradeep Guha under their banners UTV Motion Pictures and Culture Company Pvt.Ltd. respectively starring Mithun Chakraborty, Dimple Kapadia and Rati Agnihotri in lead roles. The film is a matured love story and yet to have a theatrical release even though it had a successful DTH premiere.

Plot

Phir Kabhi tells the story of two high school sweethearts who rekindle their romance at a school reunion decades later at their old age.

Synopsis

Hari Singh has been married to Lakshmi for about 40–50 years and his son is employed in America. His son's wife Divya and daughter Sonia live with them in a very harmonious relationship. Tragedy strikes as Lakshmi suddenly passes away leaving Hari vulnerable and of course, alone. Now he gets close to his granddaughter and starts visiting his school-mates. It is then Divya concludes that Hari may not be a good influence over her daughter after she finds out that he has not only fallen in love, but also visiting on the sly, as well as exchanging love letters with a woman named Ganga.

Arijit Singh

Arijit Singh is an Indian playback singer and a music programmer. Born in Jiaganj, Murshidabad, West Bengal, his career began upon participating in the reality show Fame Gurukul (2005), in which he lost at the finals. After winning another reality show called 10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil, Singh built a recording setup of his own, beginning his journey with music programming. Subsequently, he went to become as an assistant music programmer to Pritam Chakraborty, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar and Mithoon.

Singh rose to widespread prominence and became a household name with the release of "Tum Hi Ho" from Aashiqui 2 (2013). He was given the Best Male Playback Singer award for the song, in 59th Filmfare Awards. In 2014, he collaborated with Jeet Gannguli—for whom he performed the rest of his tracks in Aashiqui 2 —for CityLights, where he rendered the romantic version of the song "Muskurane", which fetched him most nominations in the year. Gannguli composed Suno Na Sangemarmar and Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy's Sufi song, Mast Magan garnered him another two nominations in 60th Filmfare Awards.
