Anna Júlia

"Anna Júlia" is a 1999 song by Brazilian rock band Los Hermanos from their first self-titled album. This was the first work of music and the first great success of the band.

History

The lyrics were written by Marcelo Camelo, and talks about a girl, Anna Julia Werneck, journalism student at PUC-Rio, for whom the then producer of the band was in love.

At the time of its release the song was a hit, getting constant airplay in Brazilian radio and television. The song gained versions in other languages, being re-recorded in English by Jim Capaldi and former Beatle George Harrison.

After this initial success, Anna Julia became less played in Los Hermanos concerts. The band felt that the song does not represent in essence the style of the band, being a radio ballad, a sticky song with a rather simple lyrics that the label made them play to exhaustion. The band isolated on a site for production of their second album, Bloco do Eu Sozinho, with a more refined style.

Los Hermanos

Los Hermanos is a rock band from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The group was formed in 1997 by Marcelo Camelo (vocals/guitar), Rodrigo Amarante (guitar/vocals), Rodrigo Barba (drums), and Bruno Medina (keyboards/keyboard bass). Currently they are on an extended hiatus, performing sporadically concerts.

Although the band is Brazilian, the name is Spanish for "the brothers", which would be "Os Irmãos" in Portuguese.

History

Formation and first years (1997–99)

Until then students from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Camelo (journalism), and Rodrigo Barba (psychology) formed a band that countered the hardcore weight with the lightness of lyrics about love. In addition, the band had with a saxophonist and later, keyboardist Bruno Medina, advertising student at the same college, was incorporated into the formation of the group. With the entry of musicians Rodrigo Amarante (vocals, guitar and percussion) and Patrick Laplan (bass) and with the output of three musicians of their formation (trumpeter Marcio and saxophonists Carlos and Victor), the band recorded in 1997 its first materials: demos "Chora" and "Amor e Folia."

George Harrison

George Harrison,MBE (25 February 1943 – 29 November 2001) was an English guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music and film producer who achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles. Often referred to as "the quiet Beatle", Harrison embraced Indian mysticism and helped broaden the horizons of his fellow Beatles as well as their Western audience by incorporating Indian instrumentation in their music. Although the majority of the Beatles' songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, most Beatles albums from 1965 onwards contained at least two Harrison compositions. His songs for the group included "Taxman", "Within You Without You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something", the last of which became the Beatles' second-most covered song.

Harrison's earliest musical influences included George Formby and Django Reinhardt; Carl Perkins, Chet Atkins and Chuck Berry were subsequent influences. By 1965 he had begun to lead the Beatles into folk rock through his interest in the Byrds and Bob Dylan, and towards Indian classical music through his use of the sitar on "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)". Having initiated the band's embracing of Transcendental Meditation in 1967, he subsequently developed an association with the Hare Krishna movement. After the band's break-up in 1970, Harrison released the triple album All Things Must Pass, a critically acclaimed work that produced his most successful hit single, "My Sweet Lord", and introduced his signature sound as a solo artist, the slide guitar. He also organised the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh with Indian musician Ravi Shankar, a precursor for later benefit concerts such as Live Aid. In his role as a music and film producer, Harrison produced acts signed to the Beatles' Apple record label before founding Dark Horse Records in 1974 and co-founding HandMade Films in 1978.
