Ulsan and other areas affected by Typhoon Chaba to see rain from Friday evening through Saturday

태풍 피해 복구 중 또 집중호우••• 동•남해안 Korea's southeastern cities are just getting started on restoration work after Typhoon Chaba swept through. But already more rain is on the way,... raising concerns over whether their drainage systems can cope. Lee Ji-won has more. Residents of Korea's southern and eastern coasts, which have already seen severe damage from Typhoon Chaba, have been warned of heavy rain from Friday evening through Saturday. Korea's southeastern city of Ulsan, which sustained the worst damage from the typhoon earlier this week... with three deaths in the city... is forecast to see about 30 to 80 millimeters of rain from Friday evening through Saturday evening. Along the coast and mountainous regions, more than 100 millimeters are expected. The coastal cities of Gyeongju and Pohang, which were flooded by Typhoon Chaba are expected to see up to 80 millimeters of rain. The southern coast and areas near Jirisan Mountain are looking at 120 millimeters. Those amounts would not normally be a problem, but with the cities' current flood damages and clogged drainage systems,... civil authorities are deploying more people and equipment to restore the city and prevent further damage. For restoration work, on Friday some 7-thousand people,... from civilian volunteers to soldiers,... were sent to Ulsan... and about 3-thousand to Gyeongju and Pohang. They drained flooded apartments, parks and markets,... and unclogged outlets for the floodwaters. Civil authorities in the southeastern Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Ulsan, Gyeongju and Pohang cites will be on standby to manage drainage systems and restoration works. Lee Ji-won, Arirang News.
