3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), refers to various processes used to synthesize a three-dimensional object. In 3D printing, successive layers of material are formed under computer control to create an object. These objects can be of almost any shape or geometry and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot.
Futurologists such as Jeremy Rifkin believe that 3D printing signals the beginning of a third industrial revolution, succeeding the production line assembly that dominated manufacturing starting in the late 19th century. Using the power of the Internet, it may eventually be possible to send a blueprint of any product to any place in the world to be replicated by a 3D printer with "elemental inks" capable of being combined into any material substance of any desired form.
3D printing in the term's original sense refers to processes that sequentially deposit material onto a powder bed with inkjet printer heads. More recently, the meaning of the term has expanded to encompass a wider variety of techniques such as extrusion and sintering-based processes. Technical standards generally use the term additive manufacturing for this broader sense.
William Sanford "Bill" Nye (born November 27, 1955), popularly known as Bill Nye the Science Guy, is an American science educator, comedian, television presenter, actor, writer, scientist, and former mechanical engineer, best known as the host of the Disney/PBS children's science show Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993–1998) and for his many subsequent appearances in popular media as a science educator.
Nye was born on November 27, 1955, in Washington, D.C., to Jacqueline (née Jenkins; 1921–2000), a codebreaker during World War II, and Edwin Darby "Ned" Nye (1917–1997), also a World War II veteran, whose experience without electricity in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp led him to become a sundial enthusiast. His maternal grandmother was French, from Dancevoir.
After attending Lafayette Elementary and Alice Deal Junior High in the city, he was accepted to the private Sidwell Friends School on a partial scholarship and graduated in 1973. He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University (where he took an astronomy class taught by Carl Sagan) and graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1977. Nye occasionally returns to Cornell as a guest-lecturer of introductory-level astronomy and human ecology classes.

Scientists at Princeton University designed this bionic ear that can actually hear even better than human ears. The 3D printed cells and nanoparticles with a small coil antenna create the cyber ear that can be installed onto a real human and hear radio frequencies a million times higher than our own ears. # 9 3D-Printed Cast Jake Evill was a recent graduate of Victoria University when he broke his hand and was stuck with an arm cast that he found “archaic.” So he desig...
Bill Nye casts his mind to the future to give us a picture of how the descendants of our current 3D printing technology will change our ways and our world. So the other word you’re going to start seeing a lot more of I think is additive manufacture. 3D printing is kind of a specific style where you do layers. But I think you’ll see other additive manufacturing schemes following different fluids and materials that are buoyant in those fluids and then extracted and shapes can b...
Mind blowing creations from 3 dimensional printed objects. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: Ever since Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press around 1439, we have been obsessed with creating the perfect printer to preserve and put our ideas on paper. The printing press was probably one of the most innovative and life-changing inventions as it made literacy more accessible. No longer did people have to write and transcribe thousands of pages, one at a time. But instead, books like the Bible could be mass produced at a quick pace. Over the hundreds of years since Gutenberg’s invention, the printer has evolved into devices like the typewriter and the laser jet printer. ...

I have built my fourth 3D printer. And I wonder if it isn't the best so far. Sure, the form2 has more detail, but the price of running it is just to much. The ultimaker 2 come close but it's so far noicier and less reliable. Of course, the ultimaker 2 is a couple of years old now. I am not going to mention my first, it was total garbage. This new is a kit of a Kossel XL (from China). It cost 6% of what a Form 2 costs and 13% of what an ultimaker 2 costs. I will use it to prototype my designs of 3D printed terrain. Lets see if it holds up.
