Walton Group

Walton (Bengali: ওয়াল্টন) is a brand of WALTON Group is a conglomerate based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It comprises numerous subsidiaries and affiliated businesses, most of them united under the Walton brand. The subsidiaries include Walton Motors, Walton Mobile and Walton Electronics. Walton produces electronics, motor vehicles, and telecommunications products.

WALTON Group of Industries was founded by S.M Nurul Alam Rezvi in 1977 as a trading company. Over the next three decades the group diversified into steel, textiles, electronics and automobiles. Walton entered into the steel industry in late 1970s and the electronics and automobiles in early 2000s; these areas would drive its subsequent growth. Since the 2000s Walton has expanded towards electronics and automobiles and these became its most important sources of income.

Walton is one of the highest taxpayers in Bangladesh and has a strong impact on the country's economy. Walton has received the Best Taxpayer Award at the just-concluded Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2015 for the seventh time. It was awarded for its export revenues. Walton received awards at the 2013 Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF), including one for paying the most taxes.

Walton (barque)

Walton, a three-masted barque, was built for the Parker family in Walton, Nova Scotia in 1855. Under the command of Frederick Parker (sailing for his father, Francis Walton), brother of ground-breaking Halifax/Dartmouth doctor Daniel McNeill Parker, Walton was painted by notable marine artist Michele Renault in 1857 off Livorno (Leghorn), Italy. The painting currently hangs in a private home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. In speaking of his uncle, Captain Frederick, family historian William Frederick Parker notes: "His voyages took him chiefly to the Indian and China seas and the Mediterranean, in the barque 'Walton.' He too, lost his life in following his profession. He was never married. His body was interred at Cardiff, Wales. (His Brother, Captain John Nutting Parker, drowned in 1868 at Liverpool, England and James Walton Parker, while commanding one of his father’s ships upon a voyage to the East, perished with the ship, which was never heard of after setting sail.)".

A half model of the Walton is stored at the Mystic Seaport museum in Connecticut. She was wrecked in fog on White Ledge off of Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick in the Bay of Fundy on September 14, 1878.

Near the end of the DC vs. Marvel crossover event in 1996, Amalgam Comics released a series of one-shot comic books combining characters from the Marvel Universe with characters from the DC Universe. The first twelve Amalgam titles were released in a single week, temporarily replacing both publishers' regular releases. Half the comics in the event were published by Marvel Comics and half by DC Comics. A year later, the stunt was repeated, but without the crossover as background. Later, both publishers collected their issues into trade paperback collections.

In the 24 Amalgam Comics titles printed, one-third of those printed included letter-columns by fictitious fans to give a larger background to the stories and to help give hints of what might happen in the next issue. The "fans'" hometowns were usually fusions of existing American cities.
