The Office of Public Safety is the center of security and policing operations at Towson University.
We oversee the Towson University Police Department, the Office of Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Health & Safety and Access Control.
Our award-winning Police Department is comprised of fully sworn officers that patrol campus and offer crime prevention programs ranging from campus safety videos to the campus escort service. These programs have helped Towson University achieve the lowest per capita crime rate in the University System of Maryland. The Police Department publishes up-to-date crime statistics in compliance with the Clery Act and distributes emergency text alerts.
Our Office of Emergency Preparedness works closely with all campus departments to prepare for large-scale emergencies. We encourage you to review the Emergency Resources Guide (PDF) and watch the emergency preparedness video to learn safe responses to emergency situations on campus.
Environmental Health and Safety works to maintain a safe campus environment by conducting inspections, maintaining the campus's chemical inventory and providing CPR certification training to TU students, faculty and staff.
The Access Control unit works with departmental key coordinators (PDF) to maintain building access via the campus lock shop.
On Saturday, October 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Towson University Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 12th opportunity in six years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unsafe and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to the University Union's second floor lobby. The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
