When it seems like
Jesus Christ is gone, remember, He is not here: he is risen.
Perhaps you have heard of the historical conspiracy whereby
Nathan Rothschild cornered the
English stock market by betting against
Napoleon and spreading a rumor after
Wellington's victory over Napoleon at
Waterloo that
Wellington lost the battle instead.
England mourned when they mistakenly believed their army had been defeated and that the enemy had conquered all, and the prices of assets tumbled. Rothschild, knowing the opposite was true, capitalized on his superior intel to a marvelous extent buy buying everything in the private and public sector at a massively discounted rate. When the fog cleared, the truth was known, and Rothschild was king of the
British Empire and the whole world. Do you think God played no role in this major turning
point in history?
Dr.
Joel Beeke opens this sermon with a different perspective on the same historical event, how the citizens of
Great Britain lamented when they thought Napoleon had defeated their champion, but later learned the truth and their mourning was turned into rejoicing, their sorrow became joy. This parallels the
Gospel message, and the entire story God tells in the
Bible.
Humanity today has come to believe that man has triumphed over God and death by his own merit and hard work, and it looks as though
Christianity has been defeated once and for all. But the truth, the
Gospel, is still true, and it shall be revealed for all to see at the very end, on the last day; and for the faithful believers, our sorrow shall be turned into joy, our tears into laughter, and our mourning into rejoicing. So then, why would you be tempted to join the dead in their false gospels and their faith in the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the bipolar ways of this world? Why seek ye the living among the dead? Seek Christ, and stay faithful, knowing the truth, having that superior intel from God himself.
