Story

Lebanon - £100,000 Appeal for Medical Aid

Since the biggest Palestinian refugee camp in Syria came under attack in December, Palestinians are now fleeing Syria with an estimated 200 arriving everyday in Lebanon. The already stretched and chronically underfunded services for Palestinians in Lebanon are at breaking point. MAP is providing medical care for the influx of refugees coming from Syria and for Palestinian refugees already in Lebanon.

Palestinians from Syria are arriving in Lebanon right now. They need our help now. We need to raise £100,000 so we can help them.

Gaza - £100,000 Appeal for Medical Aid

Gaza remains in a critical state. After the military attacks people have been left with horrendous injuries that require complex surgery and intensive care. As a result of the on-going military blockade, patients are still at risk as medical sources report a 65% shortage of the most essential items such as syringes, sterile gloves and blood bags.

Gaza is still recovering from eight days of the worst military bombardment it has experienced in years. We have launched a £100,000 Appeal

Lebanon

There are 500,000 Palestinians in Syria who are now being targeted. With air strikes on the largest Palestinian camp in Syria now occurring, over 100,000 Palestinians have already left their home – many fleeing to Lebanon.

The limited housing, education and health services available to Palestinians in Lebanon were already over stretched and chronically underfunded. With a new wave of refugees entering the camps in Lebanon the essential services are at breaking point.

Our programmes in the refugee camps of Lebanon are already supporting the new wave of refugees from Syria. Our midwives are already visiting pregnant women, new mothers and their babies to ensure the trauma they have been through has as minimal impact as possible.

We are also working closely with the UN to ensure that refugees coming from Syria who have chronic or complicated life threatening illness, such as cancer, kidney dialysis or heart disease, are getting the vital medical help they need.

We have committed to spend at least an extra £100,000 to help the refugees coming from Syria. But we need your help now to be able to do this.

 What your donation could buy

£15 pays for a social worker for a day to visit families living in the refugee camps.

Gaza

Over an eight day period 163 people were killed - including 42 children, 1269 injured, 298 homes were destroyed or severely damaged and 350 families were displaced from their homes. During some of the most intensive bombing Gaza has seen for years, Israel fired 1,400 missiles into the densely populated areas in Gaza hitting essential infrastructure buildings including two hospitals. Civilian casualties were inevitable.

Our team in Gaza are trained and prepared to respond to humanitarian crisis and within the first few hours of the military bombardment commenced Phase One of our Emergency Plan. We delivered emergency medical supplies which were put to immediate use to stabilise casualties as they arrived at the main hospitals. We were able to provide aid throughout the eight days of the conflict (one of only two international charities to do so).We also provided emergency medical supplies to the casualty wards and food to displaced families in the UN schools.

When the ceasefire came into force our Gaza team, were ready to move straight to Phase Two - Rapid Response. They began to safeguard the vulnerable and displaced whilst also coordinating with hospitals to ensure core essential supplies were available to treat the high number of casualties.

MAP is committed to doing everything within our power to keep these supply lines going.Gaza remains in a critical state. Hospitals are reporting that they don’t have the absolute most essential drugs and disposable medical equipment they need.

We desperately need your donation today. We promise to use your donation to support the health and medical needs of the Palestinian people, wherever the need is greatest.
