HANOVER, N.H. – The Towson University football team had two field goals blocked in the final few minutes in falling 20-17 to Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.
How It Happened
- Trailing 20-17 with 9:56 to play, the Tigers took over on their own one yard line. Four-straight runs from Deshaun Wethington got the Tigers out to the 21-yard line.
- Ellis Knudson hit Andre Dessenberg for 23 yards and Christian Summers for 35 yards to help the Tigers get down to the five yard line.
- After failing to score a touchdown, the 22-yard field goal attempt was blocked.
- Towson had one last chance with 33 seconds left. They drove to the Dartmouth 39 yard line with one second to play, but the last-second 56-yard field goal was blocked.
- Towson pulled within one score in the third quarter as Diondre Wallace intercepted a pass and returned it 20 yards to the Big Green 11 yard line.
- Three plays later, Deshaun Wethington scored from one yard out, his first touchdown of his career.
- The Tigers got on the board early as the defense forced two-straight three-and-outs to start the game. On the second possession, DeShaun Wethington went up the middle for 17 yards on a draw play.
- Four plays later, Ellis Knudson hit Christian Summers over the middle for a 15 yard touchdown.
- The Big Green took advantage of a penalty near midfield to get a 25-yard field goal.
- Dartmouth took its first lead of the game in the second quarter as an interception turned into a 10-play touchdown drive.
- The lead grew to 13-7 late in the first half as the Tigers failed on fourth down in their own territory. The Big Green turned it into a 38-yard field goal.
Inside the Numbers
- Deshaun Wethington rushed for a career-high 145 yards on 27 carries. It was the first 100-yard performance of his career.
- The wide receiver duo of Andre Dessenberg and Christian Summers combined for 280 receiving yards. Dessenberg had 12 grabs for 140 yards, while Summers had 11 catches for 140 yards.
- Ellis Knudson finished 29-of-46 for 305 yards and one touchdown.
- Jordan Mynatt led the defense with nine tackles and two tackles-for-loss.
- Diondre Wallace recorded the first interception of his career.
