Parrotfishes are a group of about 95 species traditionally regarded as a family (Scaridae), but now often considered a subfamily (Scarinae) of the wrasses. They are found in relatively shallow tropical and subtropical oceans throughout the world, displaying their largest species richness in the Indo-Pacific. They are found in coral reefs, rocky coasts, and seagrass beds, and play a significant role in bioerosion.
Traditionally, the parrotfishes have been considered a family level taxon, Scaridae. Although phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis of parrotfishes is ongoing, they are now accepted to be a clade in the tribe Cheilini, and are now commonly referred to as scarine labrids (subfamily Scarinae, family Labridae). Some authorities have preferred to maintain the parrotfishes as a family-level taxon, resulting in Labridae not being monophyletic (unless split into several families).
Parrotfish are named for their dentition, which is distinct from other fishes, including other labrids. Their numerous teeth are arranged in a tightly packed mosaic on the external surface of their jaw bones, forming a parrot-like beak with which they rasp algae from coral and other rocky substrates (which contributes to the process of bioerosion).
The best fish we have ever owned. She actually waits for us to come home from work in the corner of the tank closest to our front door, where she can kinda see and hear us. She will aggressively start splashing the water to get immediate attention and will Not stop till we put our hands in the tank. She is so intelligent, I would of never expected that from this fish when we bought her, WoW!!! what a gift we got.. I would really like to know if anybody else is doing the same with their Parrot....??? She's AWESOME!!!! We Love her. GF360 opinion on what colour to choose for a RT PROJECT.
because this type of fish are a cross breed of a goldfish and a cichled, they are unable to reproduce(Infertile Male). It is only possible to breed these fish if the original breeder of your fish has given them hormones, witch is usually unlikely. But even if you are given two/one fertile fish(They can switch gender) it is very difficult to breed them. Even under prime water conditions it is difficult. One reason the eggs usually die off from mold is because of their inability to pick and move eggs with their large open Y shaped mouth. The only chance you would have at successfully breeding these fish is breeding them in a tank with no other fish, prime water conditions, and medicated water to stop mold growth.

Australia's Great Barrier Reef, one of the natural wonders of the world and the largest living structure on our planet. Monty Halls explores its full 2000-kilometre length, from the wild outer reefs of the Coral Sea to the tangled mangrove and steaming rainforest on the shoreline; from large mountainous islands to tiny coral cays barely above sea level; from the dark depths of the abyss beyond the reef to colourful coral gardens of the shallows. Along the way, he experiences the reef at its most dangerous and its most intriguing, and visits areas that have rarely been filmed, from the greatest wildlife shipwreck on earth to the mysterious seafloor of the lagoon, where freakish animals lurk under every rock. The first film explores the complex structure of the coral reef itself and the w...

Andrew and I explore a new creek and find Jack central, so many fish... We head off to go fishing before dawn and travel down the road in total fog. Fog usually means a calm day and it turned out to be quite warm, hot actually. The sand flies were also pretty aggressive with some spray not even working, while bushmans did the trick. Andrew started off with 3 Mangrove Jack in a row, than a GT and a cod. I started a bit later but caught all the biggest fish. We fished with hard bodies to begin with and later after lunch switched to soft plastics. I really don't know how many nice Mangrove Jack, also called Mangrove Snapper we caught, but we did have a lot of fun and caught many good fish. We both missed a few nice Mangrove Jack and I also missed a good sized Barramundi. But we did ta...
