Bacteria (i/bækˈtɪəriə/; singular: bacterium) constitute a large domain of prokaryotic microorganisms. Typically a few micrometres in length, bacteria have a number of shapes, ranging from spheres to rods and spirals. Bacteria were among the first life forms to appear on Earth, and are present in most of its habitats. Bacteria inhabit soil, water, acidic hot springs, radioactive waste, and the deep portions of Earth's crust. Bacteria also live in symbiotic and parasitic relationships with plants and animals. They are also known to have flourished in manned spacecraft.
There are typically 40 million bacterial cells in a gram of soil and a million bacterial cells in a millilitre of fresh water. There are approximately 5×1030 bacteria on Earth, forming a biomass which exceeds that of all plants and animals. Bacteria are vital in recycling nutrients, with many of the stages in nutrient cycles dependent on these organisms, such as the fixation of nitrogen from the atmosphere and putrefaction. In the biological communities surrounding hydrothermal vents and cold seeps, bacteria provide the nutrients needed to sustain life by converting dissolved compounds, such as hydrogen sulphide and methane, to energy. On 17 March 2013, researchers reported data that suggested bacterial life forms thrive in the Mariana Trench, which with a depth of up to 11 kilometres is the deepest part of the Earth's oceans. Other researchers reported related studies that microbes thrive inside rocks up to 580 metres below the sea floor under 2.6 kilometres of ocean off the coast of the northwestern United States. According to one of the researchers, "You can find microbes everywhere — they're extremely adaptable to conditions, and survive wherever they are."

Genres: Comedy, Short,This is a new high definition (HD) dramatic video choreographed to powerful music that introduces the viewer/student to Bacteria. It is designed as a motivational "trailer" to be shown by teachers in Biology, Microbiology and Physical Science classrooms in middle school, high school and college as a visual introduction to the wonders of microbes. Subscribe to my channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/sfgregs?feature=mhum to see all of my exciting video trailers in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science and Astronomy. I will be releasing new ones periodically. You can download all of my videos for free from Vimeo, my other video site. The link is available in the "About" section of this channel. Every second of your life you are under attack. Bacteria, viruses, spores and more living stuff wants to enter your body and use its resources for itself. The immune system is a powerful army of cells that fights like a T-Rex on speed and sacrifices itself for your survival. Without it you would die in no time. This sounds simple but the reality is complex, beautiful and just awesome. An animation of the immune system. We are thinking of making an App for tablets out of this video. Would you like that? Did you think the visual system we developed worked? Feedback is much appreciated! You can get the MUSIC of the video here: http://thomasveith.bandcamp.com/track/the-immune-system Videos, explaining things. In a creative stroke inspired by Hollywood wizardry, scientists have designed a simple way to observe how bacteria move as they become impervious to drugs. The experiments are thought to provide the first large-scale glimpse of the maneuvers of bacteria as they encounter increasingly higher doses of antibiotics and adapt to survive—and thrive—in them. Life on Earth 004 - Bacteria Paul Andersen describes the defining characteristics of the domain Eubacteria. He begins with a quick description of the phylogeny of bacteria and horizontal gene transfer. He then surveys the structures of a bacteria; nucleoid region, capsule, pilli, cell wall with peptidoglycan, flagella. He describes the differing morphologies and metabolism in different bacteria. He describes how bacteria can be Gram positive or Gram negative. He finishes with a brief discussion of quorum sensing. October 22, 2013 Has the age of antibiotics come to an end? From a young girl thrust onto life support in Arizona to an uncontrollable outbreak at one of the nation’s most prestigious hospitals, FRONTLINE investigates the alarming rise of a deadly type of bacteria that our modern antibiotics can’t stop.
The Artificial Flesh-Eating Bacteria, Synthia, was released at the Gulf of Mexico to eat oil in the water caused by oil giant BP in 2010. It turned out the bacteria mutated and it consume all forms of organic life as well. This project was supported by 'BP'. Remarkably, this is ignored from all sides! Bacteria, Bacteria
Look, there's Bacteria
Bacteria, Bacteria
You might not see them, but they're there
Bacteria, Bacteria
Everything you touch
Bacteria, Bacteria
That's right, Salmonella Bacteria
but we have to watch out for bacteria
that can spoil our chicken
bacteria practically everywhere
everywhere you look
in the kitchen
inside the cooler
in the dining area
in the rest rooms
on our raw chicken
and like I said
Bacteria, Bacteria
Look, there's Bacteria
Bacteria, Bacteria
You might not see them, but they're there
Bacteria, Bacteria
Everything you touch
Bacteria, Bacteria
That's right, Salmonella Bacteria
Salmonella grows on raw chicken, especially old chicken
moist foods like our salads
staph bacteria on the left and strep bacteria on the
right
Salmonella, sigillum, clostridium perfringens
if you didn't wash your hands, they would become
breeding grounds for
Bacteria, Bacteria
Look, there's Bacteria
Bacteria, Bacteria
You might not see them, but they're there
Bacteria, Bacteria
Everything you touch
Bacteria, Bacteria
That's right, Salmonella Bacteria
fever, cramps and fever
dysentery
fever, fe-fe-fe-fever
vomiting, vomiting
chills
cramps
chills, and chills and cramps
one square inch
half a billion Salmonella bacteria
these bacteria really sound serious
they are when they're left unchecked
and it could mean a trip to the hospital for someone
our customers
ourselves
alright
our chicken
alright
and our reputation
alright, alright
you mean bacteria on me right now?
clean, clean, and then clean again
Bacteria, Bacteria
Look, there's Bacteria
Bacteria, Bacteria
You might not see them, but they're there
Bacteria, Bacteria
Everything you touch
Bacteria, Bacteria
That's right, Salmonella Bacteria
