Snow continues to fall in the Australian Alps despite the ski season ending almost a month ago

WHILE many of us basked in the warm weekend sunshine, unusually cold weather continues in the Alps, with heavy snow still falling.

Despite the 2016 ski season wrapping up at the end of last month, most of Australia’s ski resorts are blanketed in a healthy cover of snow — and there’s more to come.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting snowfalls of between 20cm and 50cm across alpine areas of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania this week.

Mt Hotham could see snow today, tomorrow and Friday.

The cold weather is being caused by a series of cold fronts sweeping up from the south and the conditions are expected to last until at least Friday.

Melbourne will see cool weather to start the week, but perfect conditions are forecast for Thursday with a sunny top of 21C.

The 2016 ski season was one of the best in years, with most resorts recording above average snowfalls.
