CUTTACK: A 35-year-old man allegedly slitted his wife's neck and then committed suicide at Kasarda village in Niali around 11 am on Saturday. The accused, Prasanna Mallick, married Rili Mohapatra, 28, of Kasarda village around six years ago, said police. The girl's family alleged that Prasanna was unemployed while Rili used to work in a private company. She managed the expenses but instead of admiring her efforts Prasanna abused her, they alleged. Unable to bear her husband's ill-treatment, Rili filed for divorce three months ago and had returned to her parent's house, police said.
Police said Prasanna nurtured a grudge against Rili and had hatched conspiracy to kill her. Prasanna had come to Kasarda on Friday night. When Rili was alone, he barged into the house and killed her. Rili died on the spot. After killing Rili, Prasanna consumed pesticide and stabbed himself, said Sarbeswar Nayak, a police official. Neighbours took Prasanna to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where he died.
