The American Mafia, commonly known as the Mafia, Italian Mafia, Italian Mob, or the Mob in the United States, is an Italian American criminal society that originated and developed from the Sicilian Mafia. The Italian-American Mafia is a secret criminal society without a formal name, similar to the Sicilian Mafia. Its members usually refer to it as Cosa Nostra (Italian pronunciation: [kɔza nɔstra]), a phrase which literally translates to "our thing," but can be more accurately paraphrased as "our work" or "our operation." The press also coined the name "National Crime Syndicate" to refer to the entire network of U.S. organized crime, which included the Jewish Mafia elements and the Italian-American Mafia. It was described as a confederation of mainly Italian and Jewish-American organized crime groups throughout the U.S., as revealed by the findings of a U.S. Senate Special Committee in the 1950s chaired by Estes Kefauver. The Mafia in America emerged in Italian immigrant neighborhoods in New York's East Harlem (or Italian Harlem), Lower East Side, and Brooklyn. It also emerged in other areas of the East Coast of the United States and several other major metropolitan areas (such as New Orleans[1]) during the late 19th century and early 20th Century following waves of Italian immigration, especially from Sicily and other regions of Southern Italy. It has its roots in the Sicilian Mafia, but is a separate organization in the United States. Neapolitan, Calabrian, and other Italian criminal groups in America, as well as independent Italian-American criminals, eventually merged with Sicilian mafiosi to create the modern pan-Italian Mafia in North America. Today, the American Mafia cooperates in various criminal activities with the Sicilian Mafia and other Italian organized crime groups, such as the Camorra in Naples, 'Ndrangheta in Calabria, and Sacra Corona Unita in Apulia. The most important unit of the American Mafia is that of a "family", as the various criminal organizations that make up the Mafia are known. Despite the name of "family" to describe the various units, they are not familial groupings.[2] The Mafia is currently most active in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, and New England (primarily Boston, Worcester, and Providence, with a minor presence in other New England cities);[3] with smaller families, associates, and crews in places such as Florida, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Cleveland. There have been at least 26 cities around the United States with Cosa Nostra families, with many more offshoots, splinter groups, and associates in other cities. There are five main New York City Mafia families, known as the Five Families: the Gambino, Lucchese, Genovese, Bonanno, and Colombo families. At its peak, the Mafia dominated organized crime in the U.S. Each crime family operates independently, while nationwide coordination is provided by the Commission, which consists of the bosses of each of the strongest families. Law enforcement considers the Mafia to be the largest organized-crime group in the United States, with influence in criminal activities in the United States and certain parts of Canada. Sicilian Mafia

The Sicilian Mafia, also known as Cosa Nostra ("our thing"), is a criminal syndicate in Sicily, Italy. It is a loose association of criminal groups that share a common organizational structure and code of conduct. Each group, known as a "family", "clan", or "cosca" or "cosche" in Sicilian, claims sovereignty over a territory, usually a town or village or a neighbourhood (borgata) of a larger city, in which it operates its rackets. Etymology

In reference to a man, mafiusu in 19th century Sicily was ambiguous, signifying a bully, arrogant but also fearless, enterprising, and proud, according to scholar Diego Gambetta. In reference to a woman, however, the feminine-form adjective "mafiusa" means beautiful and attractive. The Sicilian word mafie refers to the caves near Trapani and Marsala, which were often used as hiding places for refugees and criminals.

Giorgi and his father agree. They schedule a meeting with the Black Mob at a Black Mob's owned bar with its lieutenants and leader at the location, once the meeting happens they open fire on their former allies with Lincoln caught within it, taking a bullet to his skull. After surviving the murder attempt by the Italian mob which wiped out the whole black mob in the process, Clay is saved by Father James and attempts to start his own criminal organization to get revenge. Clay is aided by three allies, which include Cassandra, Burke, and Vito Scaletta.

The game is set in 1968 New Bordeaux, a re-imagined version of New Orleans, with the open world being larger than the Mafia and Mafia II maps combined. Mafia III's map is made up of ten districts: Bayou Fantom, Delray Hollow, Barclay Mills, Frisco Fields, Pointe Verdun, Tickfaw Harbour, Southdowns, River Row, Downtown, and the French Ward. Players can complete objectives using a variety of approaches. For example, players can use the weapons provided in the game, like shotguns and revolvers, to eliminate enemies, or even to call up for some aid or "assisted backup" from a few friends to clear out, before or during a gun fight. Alternatively, they can make use of stealth tactics throughout the entire mission without being noticed by enemies. The core gameplay revolves around gunplay. In addition, players can also perform executing moves and engage in melee-combat. The game also features a cover system, allowing players to take cover behind objects to avoid enemy gunfire and some detection. Players can also interrogate non-playable characters after defeating them in order to gain more information on their objectives. Players can attack and overrun locations owned by the Italian mob, and assign one of their lieutenants to operate around the local area.The game allows players to drive cars from the era with realistic drive mechanics and sounds.

Mafia III's map is made up of ten districts: Bayou Fantom, Delray Hollow, Barclay Mills, Frisco Fields, Pointe Verdun, Tickfaw Harbour, Southdowns, River Row, Downtown, and the French Ward. Players can complete objectives using a variety of approaches. For example, players can use the weapons provided in the game, like shotguns and revolvers, to eliminate enemies, or even to call up for some aid or "assisted backup" from a few friends to clear out, before or during a gun fight. Alternatively, they can make use of stealth tactics throughout the entire mission without being noticed by enemies. The core gameplay revolves around gunplay. In addition, players can also perform executing moves and engage in melee-combat. The game also features a cover system, allowing players to take cover behind objects to avoid enemy gunfire and some detection. Players can also interrogate non-playable characters after defeating them in order to gain more information on their objectives. Players can attack and overrun locations owned by the Italian mob, and assign one of their lieutenants to operate around the local area.The game allows players to drive cars from the era with realistic drive mechanics and sounds.

The American Mafia, commonly known as the Mafia, Italian Mafia, Italian Mob, or the Mob in the United States, is an Italian American criminal society that originated and developed from the Sicilian Mafia. The Italian-American Mafia is a secret criminal society without a formal name, similar to the Sicilian Mafia. Its members usually refer to it as Cosa Nostra (Italian pronunciation: [kɔza nɔstra]), a phrase which literally translates to "our thing," but can be more accurately paraphrased as "our work" or "our operation." The press also coined the name "National Crime Syndicate" to refer to the entire network of U.S. organized crime, which included the Jewish Mafia elements and the Italian-American Mafia. It was described as a confederation of mainly Italian and Jewish-American organized crime groups throughout the U.S., as revealed by the findings of a U.S. Senate Special Committee in the 1950s chaired by Estes Kefauver. The Mafia in America emerged in Italian immigrant neighborhoods in New York's East Harlem (or Italian Harlem), Lower East Side, and Brooklyn. It also emerged in other areas of the East Coast of the United States and several other major metropolitan areas (such as New Orleans[1]) during the late 19th century and early 20th Century following waves of Italian immigration, especially from Sicily and other regions of Southern Italy. It has its roots in the Sicilian Mafia, but is a separate organization in the United States. Neapolitan, Calabrian, and other Italian criminal groups in America, as well as independent Italian-American criminals, eventually merged with Sicilian mafiosi to create the modern pan-Italian Mafia in North America. Today, the American Mafia cooperates in various criminal activities with the Sicilian Mafia and other Italian organized crime groups, such as the Camorra in Naples, 'Ndrangheta in Calabria, and Sacra Corona Unita in Apulia. The most important unit of the American Mafia is that of a "family", as the various criminal organizations that make up the Mafia are known. Despite the name of "family" to describe the various units, they are not familial groupings.[2] The Mafia is currently most active in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, and New England (primarily Boston, Worcester, and Providence, with a minor presence in other New England cities);[3] with smaller families, associates, and crews in places such as Florida, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Cleveland. There have been at least 26 cities around the United States with Cosa Nostra families, with many more offshoots, splinter groups, and associates in other cities. There are five main New York City Mafia families, known as the Five Families: the Gambino, Lucchese, Genovese, Bonanno, and Colombo families. At its peak, the Mafia dominated organized crime in the U.S. Each crime family operates independently, while nationwide coordination is provided by the Commission, which consists of the bosses of each of the strongest families. Law enforcement considers the Mafia to be the largest organized-crime group in the United States, with influence in criminal activities in the United States and certain parts of Canada. (See Rizzuto crime family.) A 2010 U.S. government report on organized crime ("Organized Crime in the United States: Trends and Issues for Congress")[4] Recent FBI statistics[5] indicate that there are approximately 3,000 members and associates in the U.S., scattered mostly throughout the major cities in the Northeast, the Midwest, California, and the South. Today, most of the Mafia's activities are contained to the Northeastern United States and Chicago, where they continue to dominate crime, despite the increasing numbers of street gangs and other organized-crime groups

The mayor of Palermo, Leoluca Orlando said: ‘In the past, when the Mafia was more powerful, it prevented any immigrants from entering the city. Mafia III is an action-adventure video game developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games. It is the third installment in the Mafia series and the debut title for Hangar 13. Set in 1968 in the city of New Bordeaux, a fictional recreation of New Orleans, the story revolves around Lincoln Clay, an orphan and a Vietnam War veteran, who is on a quest to build a new crime organization to confront the Italian mob. The game takes place in the year 1968 and revolves around Lincoln Clay, a biracial orphan and Vietnam veteran. As an orphan, he was constantly looking for a family, until he joined The Black Mob and later the armed forces and fought in the Vietnam War. After serving, he returned to New Bordeaux (a fictionalized version of New Orleans) and rejoined the black mob. The Black Mob's leader tasks Lincoln to assist Giorgi Marcano (Son of The Don who runs the Italian Mafia) with robbing the Federal Reserve: once the heist is completed, Lincoln returns to Sammy's Bar with their half of the money while Giorgi returns to his father Sal Marcano with the other half, however, Marcano has other intentions and decides to get the other half the Black Mob has in their possession. Giorgi and his father agree. They schedule a meeting with the Black Mob at a Black Mob's owned bar with its lieutenants and leader at the location, once the meeting happens they open fire on their former allies with Lincoln caught within it, taking a bullet to his skull. After surviving the murder attempt by the Italian mob which wiped out the whole black mob in the process, Clay is saved by Father James and attempts to start his own criminal organization to get revenge. Clay is aided by three allies, which include Cassandra, Burke, and Vito Scaletta.

Players can complete objectives using a variety of approaches. For example, players can use the weapons provided in the game, like shotguns and revolvers, to eliminate enemies, or even to call up for some aid or "assisted backup" from a few friends to clear out, before or during a gun fight. Alternatively, they can make use of stealth tactics throughout the entire mission without being noticed by enemies. The core gameplay revolves around gunplay. In addition, players can also perform executing moves and engage in melee-combat. The game also features a cover system, allowing players to take cover behind objects to avoid enemy gunfire and some detection. Players can also interrogate non-playable characters after defeating them in order to gain more information on their objectives. Players can attack and overrun locations owned by the Italian mob, and assign one of their lieutenants to operate around the local area.The game allows players to drive cars from the era with realistic drive mechanics and sounds.

Mafia rackets accounted for 140 billion euros or 7 percent of Italy's GDP last year. The recently signed anti-Camorra protocol, aimed at fighting juvenile delinquency in Naples and protecting Neapolitans from organized crime, had been long awaited. For the first time the state at all levels of government has committed to seriously tackling the Camorra issue. The document was signed by the country's Interior Minister, Anna Maria Cancellieri, Justice Minister Paola Severino, Naples Mayor Luigi De Magistris, and local and regional authorities.
