Gary Grice (born August 22, 1966), better known by his stage names GZA (/ˈdʒɪzə/ JIZ-ə) and The Genius, is an American rapper and songwriter. A founding member of the hip hop group, the Wu-Tang Clan, GZA is known as the group's "spiritual head", being both the oldest and the first within the group to receive a record deal. He has appeared on his fellow Clan members' solo projects, and since the release of his critically acclaimed solo album Liquid Swords (1995), he has maintained a successful solo career.
In 2012, The Source placed him on their list of the Top 50 Lyricists of All Time.
An analysis of GZA's lyrics found that he has the second largest vocabulary in hip hop music, behind Aesop Rock, in a sample of 75 rappers. The Wu-Tang Clan, as a collective, and several of its individual members were also in the top 10.
Gary Grice developed an interest in hip-hop by attending block parties as a child in the early 1970s. He formed a three-man group with his cousins, Robert Diggs and Russell Jones, who would later be known as RZA and Ol' Dirty Bastard, respectively. The group, FOI: Force of the Imperial Master, saw the three rapping and DJing, switching off names and performing local shows; since they lived in different boroughs, GZA and Ol' Dirty would travel from Brooklyn out to Staten Island to meet up with their cousin RZA, after which the three would travel across New York City and challenge other MCs to battles. After some years of this, GZA was signed to Cold Chillin' Records as a solo artist under the name The Genius. He put together an album called Words from the Genius, produced mostly by Easy Mo Bee, but after it failed to sell—and his rocky experience on tour—Grice became fed up and asked for release from the label.

Born in New York City, Tyson became interested in astronomy at the age of nine after a visit to the Hayden Planetarium. After graduating from the Bronx High School of Science, where he was editor-in-chief of the Physical Science Journal, he completed a bachelor's degree in physics at Harvard University in 1980. After receiving a master's degree in astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin in 1983, he earned his master's (1989) and doctorate (1991) in astrophysics at Columbia University. He has one daughter, named Francisca.
After linking up with B-Real and Sen Dog to form the group Cypress Hill, he went on to produce seven studio albums with the group from 1991 to 2004. Of the seven, four reached platinum status, and three gold. Meanwhile, he scored hits on the side with Ice Cube's "Check Yo Self" and House of Pain's "Jump Around." During Cypress Hill's early years, DJ Muggs met The Alchemist and his Dilated Peoples brethren on tour, deciding to take the young producer under his wing, providing a jump-start for his career.

Buenass! Temas: 1 - Intro (00:00) 2 - Amplified Sample [Prod. by Mathematics] (1:17) 3 - Be...

GZA the Genius Liquids Swords Album completo Wu Tang Clan
http://www.cbc.ca/q The rapper GZA of the legendary Wu Tang Clan from Staten Island came to wide attention with "Enter the Wu Tang Clan (36 Chambers)".... an album considered one of the greatest hip hop records of all time. It was an exploration of the grime and glory of street life -- and a look at the human condition... messy, triumphant, and honest. GZA, aka The Genius, created lyrics that wove through a whole sea of references...including 1930s American literature, jazz, chess, philosophy, crime, and martial arts. The album sealed his place as one of rap music's most intricate and able lyricists...and performers. In addition to his work with the Wu Tang Clan, GZA made solo albums. Liquid Swords went platinum: the beats are menacing and hypnotic, the production is atmospher...

In the early '90s, before there was a Wu-Tang Clan, Gary Grice was The Genius; a Cold Chillin' recording artist. By 1991 he released his Easy Mo Bee produced debut album "Words From The Genius" which featured the minor hit "Come Do Me" but the LP ended up being far from a commercial success. In the video clip above you'll see The Genius promoting the release of the album while talking about his influences and more. Always mad interesting to see interviews with Wu-Tang members before they even formed and this is definitely a rare clip--Claa7

The Wu Tang Clan legend stopped by Philly's Profond Music N Art to snag some choice vinyl while in town for The FADER and Goose Island's Analog Migration show. In December, hip-hop legend GZA headlined The FADER and Goose Island's Analog Migration show in Philadelphia. During GZA's stay, he stopped by Philly's Profond Music N Art to dig deep into the store's soul, R&B;, and classic hip-hop collection. Watching him sort through the vinyl of his youth (he says he hadn't bought a record since 1976 before now), like Al Green, Bill Withers, and Smokey Robinson, while talking about Biggie and Nas and the golden age of hip-hop is a thrill. Check out the video above to see the choice LPs that GZA snagged, including a strange Wu Tang Clan versus The Beatles mashup record. http://www.thefader.com/20...
Speakin' of this art form this slang is dangerous
MC's are like sperm cells, a gang of us
Fightin' to reach the egg
Bitin' or loose a leg
Odds are like one in ten million, a thin thread
One from a thousand speaks in his own voice
the other 999 imitate without choice
Never even knowing it until the going gets rough
See the amplified sample I've grown with.
I grab the microphone the unthinkable happens
See the rocket's red glare like the guns; clappin'
They still cage matchin' MC's is scrappin'
Not the UFC but my opponent's tappin'
So don't let a little bit of fear turn to hatred
I was sent as the savior to revive what is sacred
Also stop this uncalled-for behavior
Sylphic rap cats they lactate the flavor
Got word from the wise to let it drop
Set this on fire, take aim and let it pop
Because regardless of who or what
even with doors shut
I'm givin' 'em straight raw you're givin' 'em raw cut
Like Bolivian rock, your watered down hip hop
Rap so outta shape and far from tip-top
Girls next to pebbles
spoons against shovels
dictators next to rebels and
Gods against Devils.
No time for backwards thinkin' let's think ahead,
If you wanna sleep when you awake then make your bed
A lot of MCs came to see me on referrals
not even knowing that they would undergo great perils
This cutting edge methods from the most specialized
[?]
The lord of the art strikes a chord in your heart
Your ear love to hear the guard rip the track apart
To me hip hop is like Einstein to science;
a match made in heaven, most likely alliance
Complex individual that you dream of being
Intellectual charlatan, the all-high-seeing
Got an appetite for heat so then come and bite the beat and
Digest the rest and don't stress the part you couldn't eat.
