Galata was a neighbourhood opposite Constantinople (today's Istanbul, Turkey), located at the northern shore of the Golden Horn, the inlet which separates it from the historic peninsula of old Constantinople. The Golden Horn is crossed by several bridges, most notably the Galata Bridge. The medieval citadel of Galata was a colony of the Republic of Genoa between 1273 and 1453. The famous Galata Tower was built by the Genoese in 1348 at the northernmost and highest point of the citadel. At present, Galata is a quarter within the borough of Beyoğlu in Istanbul, and is known as Karaköy.
There are several theories concerning the origin of the name Galata. According to the Italians, the name comes from calata (meaning "downward slope"), as the neighbourhood is sloped and goes downwards to the sea from a hilltop. The Greeks believe that the name comes either from galatas (meaning "milkman"), as the area was used by shepherds in the early medieval period, or from the word Galatai (meaning "Gauls"), as the Celtic tribe of Gauls were thought to have camped here during the Hellenistic period before settling into Galatia in central Anatolia. The inhabitants of Galatia are famous for the Epistle to the Galatians and the Dying Galatian statue.
Sibel Can (born August 1, 1970) is a popular Turkish folk pop and classical musicsinger. Sibel Can became a dancer at the age 14 and later started her singing career. She has been known as one of the most successful and powerful singers in Turkey. She is of Romani heritage.
Sibel first rose to fame as she started off as a professional belly-dancer hired by Fahrettin Aslan to perform at the Maksim Casino. Her little brother Ferhat was helping her with singing every day. Dancing was not the only activity she engaged in during her time at work, she had also been known to sing and so she would eventually shift her career direction into singing instead. Her first stage performance came at the age of 18, when she began singing songs from her first album, which had been produced by the help of Orhan Gencebay. These first stepping stones into the music industry would eventually make her be one of Turkey's most famous Arabesque artists. The achievements to her music would cause her to be a successful artist within this genre, as her voice has also become well familiar for Turks of all generations.

Travel video about destination Turkey. Turkey, ‘the land beneath the half moon’. We begin our journey in Istanbul, golden gateway to the Orient, a city that was once the centre of the Old World and still reflects two and a half centuries of history. On the opposite side of the Galata Bridge on the banks of the Golden Horn is the Yeni Cami Mosque with a large number of domes and minarets built one on top of the other plus a number of precious glass windows. The Grand Basare is a city within a city. Through a large gate there is a labyrinth of corridors that were built over many centuries. The enclosed market contains more than four thousand shops within its seemingly endless halls and it is possible to buy almost anything here. A vivid world full of the aromas of the orient. Europe trip 2015 We arrived early in the morning and settled in at our hotel in Taksim Square. Our first impression was that our hotel was located in a pretty sketchy area where everything was closed...but that was because it was closed during the day. At night it was BOOMING! We ventured out to some close by tourist areas on transit. Everything was really accessible by transit and all the main areas were close together. We discovered cafeteria styled restaurants which is great for cheap meals and a big variety of food and cay, which is the turkish tea and these little shops are a great place to hang out! Take a tour of Galata Tower in Istanbul, Turkey -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. It can be seen from most of Istanbul and is a historic part of the city. Galata Tower was built in 1348, back when the city was still Constantinople. Originally it was called the "Tower of Christ" in Latin. When the Ottomans took the city, they renamed the tower "Galata". The top of the tower boasts of a restaurant and an observation deck. The view from the deck is a complete panoramic one of Istanbul and the Bosphorus.

Can't see too many more
Can't see them anymore
Waving from afar
Can you come back soon
We wish we could
We think we've gone too far
On this ship of fools
We think we've gone too far
On this ship of fools
And now I walk ashore
Searching for my soul
Body sea and sky
Body sea and sky
Cast upon this sea
Is this ship of fools
Cast upon this sea
Is this ship of fools
They're all aboard
Except for me
Can we come back soon
We wish we could
We think we've gone too far
On this ship of fools
On this ship of fools
On this ship of fools
Now I walk the shore
Searching for my soul
Body sea and sky
I was born sea and sky
In this ship of fool
In this ship of fools
Cast upon this sea
Is this ship of fools
We think we've gone too far
We think we've gone too far
We think we've gone too far
