The Simpsons marks its milestone 600th episode with Treehouse of Horror special
- The animated sitcom is already the longest-running show in US history
- But it's closing in on episode record of 635 set by Gunsmoke on CBS
- The Simpsons will mark the rare feat with a much-loved Halloween special
- This year, special episode will parody The Hunger Games and Kingsman
The Simpsons will air its 600th episode on Sunday night.
And the animated sitcom will be marking the rare milestone with a much-loved Treehouse of Horror special.
This Halloween special will see parodies of Kingsman and The Hunger Games.
The latter segment will have Mr Burns introduce a contest which Bart, Lisa and the rest of Springfield’s children fight each other for a day in his personal reservoir.

The episode will also feature a couch gag enabled for VR and viewable through Google Goggles.
Now in its 28th season, The Simpsons – which premiered in 1989 – is already comfortably the longest-running prime-time show in American history.
It set that record in 2009 with season 21.
But in terms of episodes, the show is closing in on Gunsmoke’s record of 635 episodes.

Gunsmoke ran for 20 seasons and 635 episodes on CBS from 1955.
The Simpsons is set to surpass that record with episode 16 of season 29 airs – which it undoubtedly will.
While the last series renewal only covered seasons 27 and 28, the cast are all optioned through season 30, according to Deadline.
