Read your free e-book: http://easyget.us/mebk/50/en/B006O933EG/book Contemporary Africa is demographically characterized above all else by its youthfulness. In East Africa the median age of the population is now a striking 17.5 years, and more than 65 percent of the population is age 24 or under. This situation has attracted growing scholarly attention, resulting in an important and rapidly expanding literature on the position of youth in African societies.while the scholarship examining the contemporary role of youth in African societies is rich and growing, the historical dimension has been largely neglected in the literature thus far. Generations Past seeks to address this gap through a wide-ranging selection of essays that covers an array of youth-related themes in historical perspecti...
Read your free e-book: http://appgame.space/mebk/50/en/B003GIQVKQ/book American Evangelicals have long considered Africa a welcoming place for joining faith with social action, but their work overseas is often ambivalently received. Even among East African Christians who share missionaries' religious beliefs, understandings vary over the promises and pitfalls of American Evangelical involvement in public life and schools. In this first-hand account, Amy Stambach examines missionary involvement in East Africa from the perspectives of both Americans and East Africans.while Evangelicals frame their work in terms of spreading Christianity, critics see it as destroying traditional culture. Challenging assumptions on both sides, this work reveals a complex and ever-evolving exchange between Chri...

The Ajuran Sultanate, also spelled as the Ajuuraan Sultanate, was a Somali empire that ruled over large parts of the Horn of Africa in the Middle Ages. Through a strong centralized administration and an aggressive military stance towards invaders, the Ajuran Sultanate successfully resisted an Oromo invasion from the west and a Portuguese incursion from the east during the Gaal Madow and the Ajuran-Portuguese wars. Trading routes dating from the ancient and early medieval periods of Somali maritime enterprise were strengthened or re-established, and foreign trade and commerce in the coastal provinces flourished with ships sailing to and coming from many kingdoms and empires in East Asia, South Asia, Europe, the Near East, North Africa and East Africa.

In October 2015 Mungo's Hi Fi and Charlie P were invited by production company Bad Mambo for a tour in East Africa, from the coast in Kilifi through Nairobi to the Nyege Nyege festival in Jinja at the source of the river Nile. While in Nairobi they held a number of recording sessions with local vocalists where they recorded many tracks. This is a mixtape put together by local DJ Skaface to showcase some of the music that came out of it. Special thanks go to David Cecil for the initial idea and masterminding the operation, Creative Scotland for providing financial support, Bad Mambo and local Nairobi crew, Distant Relatives in Kilifi, Kampala Film School, Sheel Dread, Ngala Davies at Box House Media, Ronjey from Nairobi Underground for the photo and Blessed San for bringing the vibes. www....
