Plot: Raja Babu (Govinda) is a poor orphan adopted by a wealthy village couple (Kadar Khan and Aruna Irani). He is a typical country bumpkin, good-hearted but lacking in urban manners. He falls for Madhu (Karishma Kapoor) when he sees her photograph in a studio and chases her on his bike decorated with plastic flowers with his sidekick, played by Shakti Kapoor. Taken in by his smart appearance and impressive talks, she reciprocates his love but walks out on him with all villagers watching when she learns that he is no match to her urbane, well-educated self. It was particularly humilitating for his father as it happened in front of villagers who respected him highly. The movies takes several twists with a typical Bollywoodesque happy ending. Villains are nabbed by police but not before being beaten black and blue by the hero, boy gets his girl and parents are reunited with their son.

Plot: Although well qualified, Ram Chand is unable to obtain suitable employment, and works as a peon in an organization. One day he meets with Ravi Chand, who is on the verge of committing suicide, he counsels him against this, as well as permits him to live with him. Ravi gets employed in the same office as Ram, albeit as a Manager, and falls in love and marries a co-worker named Lata. Ram's parents would like him to get married too, and he goes to see them and meets his bride-to-be, Kusum Sharma. Ram sends a photograph of Kusum for approval to Ravi and Lata, and is disappointed to learn that Ravi does not approve of Kusum. When Ram attempts to find out the reason behind his disapproval, Ravi gives very elusive responses, and Ram takes it upon himself to find out why Ravi disapproves of Kusum so much. It is then Ram will come to know of the shocking truth behind the relationship between Kusum and Ravi, and about Kusum's reputation.

Plot: Sunil lives a middle-classed lifestyle in a village in India along with his widowed mom, Janki. He is studying Medicine in the city, is in love with his childhood sweetheart, Shanta, and everyone expects them to get married soon. However, Janki does not approve of Shanta, finds her uncouth and illiterate, and instead approves of Shobha and arranges Sunil's marriage with her. Shanta's mom, Parvati, falls seriously ill so much so that Sunil returns home, promises to wed her daughter, and she passes away. Sunil returns to the city to continue and finish his studies. After sometime he becomes a fully qualified doctor and returns to the village to open his own dispensary. It is here that he will learn that Shanta is now married to the wealthiest man in the village, Lakshmipati, who is not only a widower, father of a deceased child, but also much older than Shanta. Watch what happens when an embittered Sunil confronts Shanta to find out why she betrayed him and their promise to her late mom.

Plot: On his birthday, wealthy Bombay-based Manmohan, whose father, Shamnarain, is overseas, finds out that he does not have any real friends. Disillusioned, he returns home, and that night overpowers a burglar, Sudesh. He decides to not call the police on the condition that he lets him live in the slums, to which Sudesh agrees, and takes him to a shanty Chawl. The next day, Manmohan, who now calls himself Shyam, meets Sudesh' sister, Shyama, and both are attracted to each other. He then sub-lets a room from a dweller, known as Mausi, and starts to sell ice-cream on the streets as a living. He indirectly uses his wealth and influence to help some of the impoverished residents. He then proposes to Shyama and she accepts - and it is this acceptance that will soon pit him not only against his snobbish and enraged father - but also against Sudesh as well as a much-feared gangster, Ranvir, who wants to wed Shyama at any and all costs.

Plot: Lucknow-based poet Parvez lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his parents. Also living in this household is an orphaned distant relative, Shama, who secretly loves him. After the wedding, Roshan's brother, Dilawar, wants to wed Shama and Parvez' father accepts this alliance. Anger, rage and bitterness will surface when Shama will not only reject Dilawar but also refuse to marry anyone. Plot: Mr. Bhatnagar alias Masterji comes from a poor family, and lives on a day to day basis. He has a daughter and a son, alongwith his wife, who he has fooled into believing that he has saved quite a bit of money, to retire happily, and to get his daughter married. Masterji's dreams turn into a nightmare, as he is unable to meet his debtors, loses his job, and dies tragically, leaving his daughter to the mercy of a cruel society; his son, who has taken up crime, and his wife desolate, and destitute.

Plot: The orphan and shipwreck survivor Raja works as a coolie forming a trio of friends with Mangoo, a pickpocket, and Vithal, a hansom cab driver. Mala and her father come to the city where she is kidnapped by Banke and sold to a rich man while her father accuses Mangoo of theft. Mangoo kills the father. Mala escapes and finds shelter with Raja, with whom she falls in love. The problem with the trio increase when they enlist in the army for WW2. The film opposes religious faith to atheistic fatalism (the latter exemplified by Mangoo whose mother dies in accident and he becomes a killer) and dares to present a couple openly living together as Mala stubbornly rejects the pressures of her stepmother and her villainous cousin Madan.
