North Korea ( listen), officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK; Chosŏn'gŭl: 조선민주주의인민공화국; hancha: 朝鮮民主主義人民共和國; MR: Chosŏn Minjujuŭi Inmin Konghwaguk), is a country in East Asia, in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. The name Korea is derived from the Kingdom of Goguryeo, also spelled as Koryŏ. The capital and largest city is Pyongyang. North Korea shares a land border with China to the north and northwest, along the Amnok (Yalu) and Tumen rivers, and a small section of the Tumen River also forms a border with Russia to the northeast. The Korean Demilitarized Zone marks the boundary between North Korea and South Korea.
Korea was annexed by the Empire of Japan in 1910. After the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II in 1945, Korea was divided into two zones by the United States and the Soviet Union, with the north occupied by the Soviets and the south by the Americans. Negotiations on reunification failed, and in 1948 two separate governments were formed: the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the north, and the Republic of Korea in the south. An invasion initiated by North Korea led to the Korean War (1950–53). Although the Korean Armistice Agreement brought about a ceasefire, no official peace treaty was ever signed. Both states were accepted into the United Nations in 1991.
I've always been very interested in North Korea because it seemed to be one of the most unique and mysterious countries in the whole world. This is my day to day life throughout the 7 days that I spent in North Korea. You can never be sure whether things were staged or not in North Korea because you are only shown what they want you to see. You can't choose where or when you will be going to specific places, they simply tell you to hop on a bus and ask you to get off at one point or another. That is why I didn't want to offer my opinion about whether things were staged or not, whether they were good or not, or honest or not. My goal was to show you what my day to day life looked like when I was there and let you make up your own mind and judge for yourself. Subscribe! YouTube: https://w...

RT takes an exclusive look at North Korea, the world’s most closed-off country. Life here is isolated from the outside world and every aspect of existence is regulated by order of the "Great Leader", from the art you’re allowed to see, the books you can read, even to your hairstyle. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is perhaps the least known country in the world today. Based on a political ideology known as ‘Juche’, the socialist government controls every source of information and the national leader, Kim Jong-un, preserves the peace and defends the state’s historical, spiritual and cultural heritage. It’s hard to overestimate the Commander-in-chief’s role in the country: his likeness adorns the streets and squares in every city and village. Through official portraits and statue...

Would you invest in North Korea? The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about North Korea is its unpredictability. Well, as the regime seeks much-needed foreign investment, some adventurous businessmen have identified some opportunities. Arirang News′ Hwang Sung-hee takes a look at how the world′s most closed economy is trying to make money. Its constant military provocations, threats and dangerous brinkmanship over its nuclear program make North Korea the least attractive place for business. But some say the regime is opening up to draw much-needed foreign investment, for example, in tourism. "There is now a growing trade in tourism from the Netherlands to North Korea. So the North Korean government is now inviting Dutch students to go to Pyongyang to give Dutch language lesson...

From: http://www.cnn.com September 24, 2015 - Pyongyang, North Korea (CNN)—Of the tens of thousands of North Koreans who have fled to South Korea since the Great Famine of the late 1990's, only a rare few have ever asked to return. Kim Ryon Hui is one of them. The Pyongyang dressmaker -- turned North Korean defector -- says she is trapped in South Korea and desperate to return to her family. Before defecting in 2011, Kim lived a relatively upscale life by North Korean standards. Her husband is a doctor and the family recently received a new, larger apartment from the government. Kim in South Korea and her family in North Korea spoke to CNN about her case. Kim went to China four years ago to visit relatives and seek medical care for liver disease. North Korea has threatened a "preemptive and offensive nuclear strike" in response to planned joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises. CNN's Paula Hancocks has the latest.
North Korea claims to have miniaturized nuclear warheads to fit on ballistic missiles, the state-run Korean Central News Agency reported.
North Korea has hit the button on its fifth and potentially most powerful nuclear test, claiming to have successfully tested a nuclear warhead. CNN's Steven Jiang reports.
Their conventional forces are weak, but they have nuclear weapons and other Weapons of Mass Destruction(chemical and biological weapons) and still some good asymmetric warfare capabilities. Longer version: During the 1980s, North Korea had very good conventional forces. Their equipment was top of the line, but it was their soldiers that were also excellent. North Koreans were conscripted and served for 7-10 years during which they had much time to practice and train - almost as long as professional soldiers in the first world. Their officers were also very good - most served as enlisted men for a while and the best were chosen to get trained at their military academies. Their Special Forces were manned by the children of elites - like the Spartans, the North Korean rulers took it upon t...
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — The U.S. and South Korea will begin their largest ever joint military drills on Monday. In response, North Korea has threatened to launch a 'pre-emptive nuclear strike of justice.' This year's U.S.-South Korea annual military drill will be twice the size of last year, involving more than 300,000 South Korean soldiers and 15,000 U.S. troops, according to the BBC. "We will carry out these exercises while keeping tabs on signs of North Korean provocations. If the North provokes us during this exercise, the U.S. and our troops will retaliate with an attack ten-fold stronger," a South Korean official told Yonhap News. The annual exercises are intended to warn North Korea against its provocations while the North considers them a rehearsal for invasion. "Our targets are t...
The underground detonation was first detected by seismic readings. Pyongyang says the test was in response to what it calls US aggression, following joint US-South Korean military drills and a plan to build a missile defense system in the south. For more news, go to:
SLBM 대응책 북, 핵잠수함 건조로 부각 There are growing concerns, after the North's missile test, about the adequacy of South Korea's submarine fleet. Many experts say Seoul should move to acquire nuclear-powered subs to better prepare for the possiblity of a North Korean attack. Lee Minyoung has this report. Military experts are urging South Korea to add nuclear-powered submarines to its fleet... to counter the threat of North Korea's submarine-launched ballistic missiles. According to the defense ministry, the South Korean navy has a total of 16 subs, with 14 of them currently active. That leaves it severely outnumbered by North Korea, which is believed to have 70 subs... or even more. Those 14 comprise five 18-hundred ton boats and nine 1200-ton boats. What's more, South Korea's subs are all...

북한이 핵을 포기할 수 없는 이유와 사드에 대한 견해, 러시아 안보 전문가에게 듣는다 Now, as North Korea continues on with its provocations and no sign of the regime giving up on its nuclear ambitions... we wanted to listen in on different view. Our defense correspondent Kim Hyunbin spoke to a Russian security expert in Vladivostok for his view on the increasingly important regional security issue. For many years now North Korea has been relentlessly trying to perfect its nuclear program by conducting four nuclear tests and developing ballistic missiles that could be topped with nuclear warheads. A Russian regional security expert in Vladivostok says North Korea cannot but continue to develop nuclear weapons because it believes that is the only way to guarantee regime survival. "It is a defensive weapon for them a p...

https://www.facebook.com/learnwithsyed WARNING: Some governments advise against all travel to North Korea due to the uncertain security situation caused by North Korea’s nuclear weapons development program and highly authoritarian and unpredictable regime. Though there is little evidence of safety issues concerning tourists on organized expeditions, those planning to engage in activities that the North Korean government forbids must be prepared to face severe consequences. Under no circumstances are you to say anything that could be perceived as an insult to or critical of Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-Il, Kim Jong-Un, the Juche ideology, the Songun policy, the ruling Worker's Party of Korea, the North Korean government in general, or the citizens of North Korea. North Korea lies somewhere between a 1930′s Soviet Union frozen in time and a dark, futuristic vision of society... as imagined back in the 70′s. "Land of Whispers" invites you to visit arguably the most unique and isolated travel destination in the world - not to criticize, but to observe and listen. Aside from usual highlights such as Pyongyang or Arirang, this unique one-man documentary brings you to areas such as Chongjin or Wonson, still virtually unknown to even google or wikipedia. There, I attempt to pierce through the ever-present 'national mythology' and as much as possible, I try to connect with people - such as the waitress mesmerized by tablet computers, or a tour guide cautiously fascinated by modern pop culture. * Third World Indie Film Festival 2013 (San Francisco, USA)...

Escaping Slavery: Life Inside North Korea - Documentary Channel North Korea, is a country in East Asia, in the north component of the Korean Peninsula. The funding and biggest city is Pyongyang. North Korea shares a land border with China to the north and north-west, along the Amnok (Yalu) and Tumen streams. A tiny section of the Tumen River additionally forms North Korea's border with Russia to the northeast. The Korean Demilitarized Zone marks the boundary between North Korea and South Korea. The authenticity of this perimeter is declined by either side, as both states declare to be the reputable government of the entire peninsula. The Empire of Japan annexed Korea in 1910. In 1945, when Japan was defeated in World War II, Korea was separated into 2 areas, with the north inhabited by the...
James Joseph Dresnok is one of six American soldiers who defected to North Korea during the Korean War. In the early 60s, Dresnok was a Private First Class with a U.S. Army unit along the Korean Demilitarized Zone. He eventually went AWOL after forging signatures on military paperwork. Rather than face punishment from the army, Dresnok crossed a minefield into North Korea. Across the DMZ, Dresnok met several more defectors and together the group worked to persuade more soldiers to cross into North Korea. In 1966, he and four others tried to leave North Korea by seeking asylum at the Soviet embassy, but eventually decided to settle in the country. Since defecting, Dresnok has been married three times and is now an actor and English teacher living in the North Korean capitol of Pyongyang. ...

Money & Power in North Korea Hidden Economy North Korea 2015 North Korea, officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is a country in East Asia, in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. The name Korea is derived from the Kingdom of Goguryeo, also spelled as Koryŏ. At the end of World War II in 1945, the Korean Peninsula was divided into two zones along the 38th parallel, with the northern half of the peninsula occupied by the Soviet Union and the southern half by the United States. Initial hopes for a unified, independent Korea evaporated as the politics of the Cold War resulted in the establishment of two separate states with diametrically opposed political, economic, and social systems. Soviet General Terentii Shtykov recommended the establishment of the Soviet Civil ...
I can smash a glass against the wall,
pick up the pieces and we’re better for it.
‘Cause you know everybody weds,
then the beast can mow the lawn,
and the queen can feed the kids.
And we’ll be better for it.
I’m not impressed, suburbia.
Could you do a little better for me?
I’m gonna smile ‘till my teeth ache,
I am determined for my family’s sake.
Happily married like the rest of them,
I’m better ‘cause I buy American.
I’m not impressed suburbia.
