An Interview with Bollywood Silver Jublee star Rajendra Kumar. Interview was beautifully conducted by Ms Sarita Sabarwal ji and photograhed by Dr Vineet Kumar. This is an unedited version, the programmed was on air on a TV channel "ASIANET" in 1997. The interview was shot in between the shooting for a TV Drama/Film Rasm-o-riwaz shot in UK. The producer was Mr Gurcharan Gossal and I worked as dialog writer, cameraman and assistant director. We were lucky enough to be with Mr Rajendra Kumar for four days day and night. We traveled together in same car/texi/other means and lived those 4 memorable days to their fullest. I was very lucky to have lot of interaction with Mr Kumar and although he felt the schedule very tiring but always appreciated my work. I remember once we were filming a song with some tongue twisting words and the shot got stuck, we did about 10-15 takes but each time it did not work.. he suggested to stop the shooting for a short break... during this break I approached him and explained the meaning of those words... and went through the sequence... he gave a amazing shot straight after the break.... then he asked me "where are you from", I said "Lucknow".. and he said (in Hindi) "Only people form Lucknow can have such good Hindi and Urdu", a big compliment for me and Lucknow.

Ravi Kumar (20 July 1929 - 12 July 1999) was one of the most successful Indian Bollywood actors in the 1960s and 1970s. He also produced several films in the 1980s starring his son Kumar Gaurav. He was born in a Punjabi Hindu family in Sialkot, in the West Punjab province of British India, currently in Pakistan
Rajendra Kumar made his debut in the 1950 film Jogan in which he starred opposite Dilip Kumar and Nargis. He then shot to fame in the film Mother India in 1957 in which he played Nargis's son. His first major success as a romantic leading man was in Amit Saxenas's musical Goonj Uthi Shehnai (1959), co-starring Ameeta.
The 1960s saw Kumar rise. There were times when he had six or seven films running in their silver jubilee weeks at the same time. He became known as "Jubilee Kumar".
He had many successful films including Dhool Ka Phool (1959), Dil Ek Mandir(1963), Mere Mehboob (1963), Sangam (1964), Arzoo (1965), Pyar Ka Sagar, Gehra Daag', Suraj (1966) and Talaash. He received the Filmfare Nomination for Best Actor for Dil Ek Mandir (1963), Ayee Milan Ki Bela (1964), Arzoo (1965), and as Best Supporting Actor for Sangam (1964)
In 1981 Rajendra introduced his son Kumar Gaurav in the film Love Story which he produced, directed and also starred in. The film was declared a blockbuster Rajendra produced several other films starring his son. In 1986 he produced Naam with his son and his son's brother-in-law Sanjay Dutt in leading roles. The 1993 film Phool he again acted alongside him.
Rajendra appeared in only a few films after this and his last film appearance was a minor role in Deepa Mehta's film Earth in 1998.
He married Shukla and had a son and two daughters. His son Kumar Gaurav married Namrata Dutt, the daughter of actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis and sister of actor Sanjay Dutt.
He died on 12 July 1999 of cancer, eight days before his 70th birthday.

Career
Rajendra Kumar's family was based in Punjab, British India. His grandfather was a successful military contractor and his father had a textile business in Karachi. During the Partition of India, the family had to leave all the land and property behind and move to India. When they came to Bombay, Kumar decided to try his luck in the Hindi film industry. He never wanted to be a hero and took up work with director H. S. Rawail as an assistant. For nearly five years, he worked with Rawail as an assistant in films like Patanga, Sagai, Pocketmaar.

He received the Filmfare Nomination for Best Actor for Dil Ek Mandir (1963), Ayee Milan Ki Bela (1964), Arzoo (1965), and as Best Supporting Actor for Sangam (1964) In 1981 Rajendra introduced his son Kumar Gaurav in the film Love Story which he produced, directed and also starred in. The film was declared a blockbuster Rajendra produced several other films starring his son. In 1986 he produced Naam with his son and his son's brother-in-law Sanjay Dutt in leading roles. The 1993 film Phool he again acted alongside him. Rajendra appeared in only a few films after this and his last film appearance was a minor role in Deepa Mehta's film Earth in 1998. He married Shukla and had a son and two daughters. His son Kumar Gaurav married Namrata Dutt, the daughter of actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis and sister of actor Sanjay Dutt. He died on 12 July 1999 of cancer, eight days before his 70th birthday. -

Plot: When Bombay-based Rajaram and Rajendra Kumar are unable to pay their hotel bill, they board a train without buying tickets to flee. When confronted with a ticket-checker, they alight at Bangalore and widower Bishambernath mistakes Rajendra for Professor Roy. The duo accompany the former to his mansion where he lives with his daughter, Manju; widowed sister, and a niece, Sheela. The duo are introduced to the family, settle down and eventually Rajendra and Manju on one hand, and Rajaram and Sheela on the other, fall in love. They are not aware that Professor Roy has also arrived in Bangalore but is being held against his will by Banke Bihari, who has mistaken him for a singer named Natwar Shyam. It is during the performance that Roy will manage to escape and rather dramatically arrive at Bishambernath's residence - not only exposing the true identities of the duo but also ending their romance, and possibly getting them arrested on a number of charges.

Ravi Kumar (20 July 1929 - 12 July 1999) was one of the most successful Indian Bollywood actors in the 1960s and 1970s. He also produced several films in the 1980s starring his son Kumar Gaurav. He was born in a Punjabi Hindu family in Sialkot, in the West Punjab province of British India, currently in Pakistan Rajendra Kumar made his debut in the 1950 film Jogan in which he starred opposite Dilip Kumar and Nargis. He then shot to fame in the film Mother India in 1957 in which he played Nargis's son. His first major success as a romantic leading man was in Amit Saxenas's musical Goonj Uthi Shehnai (1959), co-starring Ameeta. The 1960s saw Kumar rise. There were times when he had six or seven films running in their silver jubilee weeks at the same time. He became known as "Jubilee Kumar"....

Ravi Kumar (20 July 1929 - 12 July 1999) was one of the most successful Indian Bollywood actors in the 1960s and 1970s. He also produced several films in the 1980s starring his son Kumar Gaurav. He was born in a Punjabi Hindu family in Sialkot, in the West Punjab province of British India, currently in Pakistan
Rajendra Kumar made his debut in the 1950 film Jogan in which he starred opposite Dilip Kumar and Nargis. He then shot to fame in the film Mother India in 1957 in which he played Nargis's son. His first major success as a romantic leading man was in Amit Saxenas's musical Goonj Uthi Shehnai (1959), co-starring Ameeta.
The 1960s saw Kumar rise. There were times when he had six or seven films running in their silver jubilee weeks at the same time. He became known as "Jubilee Kumar".
He had many successful films including Dhool Ka Phool (1959), Dil Ek Mandir(1963), Mere Mehboob (1963), Sangam (1964), Arzoo (1965), Pyar Ka Sagar, Gehra Daag', Suraj (1966) and Talaash. He received the Filmfare Nomination for Best Actor for Dil Ek Mandir (1963), Ayee Milan Ki Bela (1964), Arzoo (1965), and as Best Supporting Actor for Sangam (1964)
In 1981 Rajendra introduced his son Kumar Gaurav in the film Love Story which he produced, directed and also starred in. The film was declared a blockbuster Rajendra produced several other films starring his son. In 1986 he produced Naam with his son and his son's brother-in-law Sanjay Dutt in leading roles. The 1993 film Phool he again acted alongside him.
Rajendra appeared in only a few films after this and his last film appearance was a minor role in Deepa Mehta's film Earth in 1998.
He married Shukla and had a son and two daughters. His son Kumar Gaurav married Namrata Dutt, the daughter of actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis and sister of actor Sanjay Dutt.
He died on 12 July 1999 of cancer, eight days before his 70th birthday.

Starting his career in 1950, he appeared in more than 80 films in a career spanning over four decades. He was considered as one of the most successful Indian Bollywood actors in the 1960s. He was born in a Punjabi Hindu family in Sialkot, in the Punjab province of British India, now in Pakistan.He married Shukla and had a son and two daughters. His son Kumar Gaurav also had a brief acting career.Kumar acted with Sunil Dutt and Nargis in the film Mother India (1957) where Sunil Dutt and Rajendra Kumar played natural sons of Nargis's character.
