Fifty years ago today, April 21, 1966, the final episode of Gidget aired on ABC television. Debuting on September 15, 1965, Gidget would run for just one season, but would go on to legendary status, primarily on the high energy, success and talent of the show's young star, Sally Field. This video clip contains a fine interview with Ms. Field, and is a part of the extras on the Gidget DVD package, which comes highly recommended. The show can also be seen on cable TV each Sunday morning on Antenna TV (check local listing for time zone specifics). Check your Amazon or B&N; source for DVD ordering information. The show is very much a charming slice of mid 1960s teenage nostalgia, and unlike the movie versions of Gidget, this TV version focused much more on the father-daughter relationship, a...

Get classic TV series on DVD: http://astore.amazon.com/retroload-20 The Flying Nun was a sitcom produced by ABC based on the book The Fifteenth Pelican, by Tere Rios. The sitcom ran for three seasons, and produced 82 color episodes from 1967 until 1970. Developed by Bernard Slade, it centered on the adventures of a group of nuns in the Convent San Tanco in Puerto Rico. The comic elements of the storyline were provided by the flying ability of a novice nun, Sister Bertrille, played by Sally Field. She could be relied upon to solve any problem that came her way by her ability to catch a passing breeze and fly (attributed to her small stature and heavily starched cornette—the headgear for her habit). Her flying talents caused as many problems as they solved. She once explained her abil...

From Gidget to Norma Rae, from Absence of Malice to Mrs. Doubtfire, Sally Field's performances express a variety of American womanhood. In Lincoln, she plays Mary Todd, the wife of the 16th President (Daniel Day-Lewis), during his tumultuous final months in office. The supporting cast boasts Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones and David Strathairn. The script by Tony Kushner is based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's biography. FOX censored Sally Field's anti-war comments during her acceptance speech at the Emmys. Watch MORE episodes of FOX ATTACKS: http://youtu.be/ouKJixL--ms?list=PL18E94D79CF7CB44D Some people want to claim it's because she said "god damn", but clearly FOX has no qualms airing "god damn" cause on a recent FOX News program they aired it 5 times in the span of a couple of minutes. Oh, and the FCC ruled that "goddamn" is perfectly acceptable on broadcast television. FOX just didn't want you to hear what Sally (and the majority of Americans already know), that "if mothers ruled the world there'd be no goddamn wars in the first place." A big thanks to ChrisBG at the Newshounds for remembering this "god damn" segment on FOX News and then actually finding it!

It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else's eyes. If I hadn't fought back, I might have been Gidget forever. Change is never easy. In the 1970s and 1980s, I got to do some great work. The Oscars are really nice, but the best part is that I had the opportunity to do that kind of work. I never really address myself to any image anybody has of me. That's like fighting with ghosts. I wouldn't mind having my heart broken because it would mean that I had that much feeling connected to somebody. And that would be really great.

Moved into a new apartment in a prestigious but very low-key building on Horatio St in Manhattan's Greenwich Village. [July 2012] She was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6767 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on May 5, 2014. Is a staunch Democrat. 1966 Deb Star.
In the 1970s and 1980s, I got to do some great work. The Oscars are really nice, but the best part is that I had the opportunity to do that kind of work. I was raised to sense what someone wanted me to be and be that kind of person. It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else's eyes. When you're old, you are more certain of who you are, and that may be a good thing or a bad thing. It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else's eyes. 'Forrest Gump' is filled full of moments where your heart just cheers. You just do the best you can with what you've got... and sometimes magic strikes.
