China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.

The Panchen Lama, the number two guy in Tibetan Buddhism after the Dalai Lama, just lead a major Tibetan ritual, and tens of thousands seemingly were allowed to practice their religion freely. China invaded Tibet in 1950 and has claimed sovereignty over the land since the 13th century. There have been several independence movements that have been brutally repressed through the decades and international protest movements demanding a Free Tibet. But whilst Tibet is a huge area of land, it's isolated, underdeveloped and the indigenous people, in general terms, do not want China there. So why is it so important? The answer is depressingly familiar: resources. Shanghai - China Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Shanghai - China Travel Guide http://goo.gl/Cl0qNG Shanghai is the future all other Chinese cities aspire to reach. Forget creaking temples and dusty old palaces (there are plenty of them elsewhere); Shanghai is where people come to see modern China at its glimmering best. This fast-paced city of towering skyscrapers is, in fact, not without its own significant history. Its glory days of the 1930s helped build Shanghai's reputation as a City of Sin. But to pause for too long at the city's past would be missing the point: Shanghai is all about the future face of the world's future super power, and coming here is to witness what makes the business end of China tick. Read your free e-book: http://easyget.us/mebk/50/en/B00HWVNDGI/book The signing in Peking on May 27, 1951, of the 17-point Agreement on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet marked the end of Tibet's latest forty-year interlude of de facto independence and formalized an arrangement which, although in some respects differing from the earlier relationship between China and Tibet, in principle but reimposed the former's traditional suzerainty over the latter. Since then, the course and pattern of relations between the Central Government and the so-called Local Government of Tibet have undergone a series of drastic reappraisals and readjustments, culmi nating in the rebellion of 1959 and the flight of the Dalai Lama to India. These events, together with the recent degeneration of the S...
Read your free e-book: http://easyget.us/mebk/50/en/B004GHNHRQ/book This book offers a definitive account of the origins and events of the 2008 Tibetan uprising, which began with peaceful demonstrations by monks of Lhasa's great monasteries on the anniversary of the 1959 revolt. Noted expert Warren W. Smith Jr. argues that the uprising was a widespread response to the conditions of Chinese rule over Tibet, which revealed much about Tibetan nationalism and even more about Chinese nationalism. Interpreting the Tibetan uprising as an attempt to spoil the Beijing Olympics, China's hard-line response was repression, "patriotic education," and propaganda blaming the disturbances on the "dalai clique" and "hostile Western forces." Smith contends that China's offensive is based upon a belief that ...
Read your free e-book: http://easyget.us/mebk/50/en/B007IVG58K/book China's Last Imperial Frontier explores imperial China's frontier expansion in the Tibetan borderlands during the last decades of the Qing. The empire mounted a series of military attacks against indigenous chieftaincies and Buddhist monasteries in the east Tibetan region seeking to replace native authorities with state bureaucrats by redrawing the politically diverse frontier into a system of Chinese-style counties. Historically, at all the strategic frontier locations, the state had been for the most part outstripped by local institutions in political, military, and ideological strengths. With perceived threats from the Anglo-russian great Game accentuating Qing vulnerability in Tibet, the Sichuan government took advanta...

'TIBET - The Truth' is a brief, yet comprehensive, film examining the evolution of Tibet as an integral part of China beginning around 600 AD. Tibet's geo-political history is fairly clear up to the 19th and 20th centuries. It was during this period that Western Imperialism began to muddy the waters and campaigns were launched to create an insecure western border for China. Additional influences include rampant civil unrest within China, the forming of the Republic of China after the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1911, Japanese aggression that tormented the people of China for many years, and finally, the involvement of the United States (namely the CIA) in using the 14th Dalai Lama as a poster-child and ally in its Anti-Communist agenda during the Cold War. Before 1959, the year the Peopl...
