The Khilji dynasty (Persian: سلسله خلجی; Hindi: सलतनत ख़िलजी) or Khalji was a Muslim dynasty of Turkic origin, long settled in Afghanistan, which ruled large parts of South Asia between 1290 and 1320. It was founded by Jalal ud din Firuz Khilji and became the second dynasty to rule the Delhi Sultanate of India. The dynasty is known for their faithlessness and ferocity, as well as their raids into Hindu south and defending the Sultanate against the repeated Mongol invasions of India. Muhammad Shiran Khilji was a ruler of Bengal from 1206 until 1208. After the death of Bakhtiyar Khilji the Khilji noblemen of Lakhnaur appointed Shiran as the ruler of the country. Ascending to the throne he invaded armies loyal to the rebel Ali Mardan Khilji and humbled him.
