Berks may refer to:
Berks County (Pennsylvania German: Barricks Kaundi) is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census, the population was 411,442. The county seat is Reading.
Berks County comprises the Reading, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), which is also included in the Philadelphia-Reading-Camden, PA-NJ-DE-MD Combined Statistical Area. (CSA).
Reading developed during the 1740s when the inhabitants of northern Lancaster County sent several petitions requesting that a separate county be established. With the help of German immigrant Conrad Weiser, the county was formed on March 11, 1752 from parts of Chester County, Lancaster County, and Philadelphia County.
It was named after the English county in which William Penn's family home lay - Berkshire, which is often abbreviated to Berks. Berks County began much larger than it is today. The northwestern parts of the county went to the founding of Northumberland County in 1772 and Schuylkill County in 1811, when it reached its current size. In 2005, Berks County was added to the Delaware Valley Planning Area due to a fast-growing population and close proximity to the other communities.
A nucleolar detention center (DC) is a region of the cell in which certain proteins are temporarily detained in periods of cellular stress. DCs are absent from cells under normal culture conditions, but form in response to specific environmental triggers, such as low extracellular pH or high temperature, when long noncoding RNAs are induced from regions of intergenic DNA. The detention of numerous proteins in DCs is believed to reduce metabolic activity and promote survival under unfavorable conditions. DCs form at the center of nucleoli and therefore disrupt the normal organization of these organelles. The structural remodeling that ensues leaves nucleoli unable to sustain their primary function, ribosomal biogenesis. Therefore, the formation of DCs is thought to convert nucleoli from “ribosome factories” to “prisons for proteins”.

We’re taking this campaign directly to the people – in town meetings, door to door conversations and on street corners – a true grassroots campaign. This week we were in Philadelphia talking to local leaders about the Berks Family Detention Center, one of the nation’s three family immigrant detention centers. It is my strong belief that the United States government should not be in the painful and inhumane business of locking up families who have fled unspeakable violence in Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and other countries throughout the world. Instead we should treat these families with the compassion, the dignity and the respect they deserve. It's clear to me it is long overdue time to shut down the Berks County Family Detention Center. --------- ★ Join the political revolution at w...
It's back, and the drivers got worse! Getting a new summer job means a longer commute over worse roads with worse drivers. Brace yourselves for the dumb! This video is meant for educational purposes. Use it as a lesson demonstrating what not to do on the road. Some of these mistakes were rather minor (and merely added in for a comedic effect), but there are a few clips in here that could have ended very badly had circumstances been slightly different. There are plenty of other examples on YouTube showing how an excessively quick merge or skipping a stop sign can injure or kill someone. You may not think much about these mistakes until it is too late! Stay safe on the roads, and hopefully you won't end up in July's video!
Everywhere poverty reigns on this ground
Struggles for existence are the daily round
Survival of the fittest is the order of the day
A little more time, the earning of the stray
No way, no way
Is that all you have to say?
Stand up, fight back,
So far and not further
This way is wrong,
It´s time for a new order
The little child, it´s hungry and it´s riled
Its mother gave it away at the first ray of this day
No way, no way
Is that all you have to say?
Stand up, fight back,
So far and not further
This way, is wrong,
It´s time for a new order
No way, no way
