Northbound carriageway now closed until the morning

We’re going to close our live updates on this incident now. The northbound M5 is now shut between junctions two and one for those resurfacing works to take place overnight.

Full report

Here’s our latest full report on today’s disruption on the M5: Part of the motorway will be closed overnight after a crash and oil spill caused chaos this afternoon.

Delays cleared

Looks like most of the delays on the M5 and around Oldbury have now cleared after the disruption earlier. Just a reminder though, there is still one lane of the northbound carriageway closed between junctions two and one.

Latest map of traffic delays

Still some heavy traffic around the M5 as we reach 7pm. Here’s the latest map of the delays:

Junction two entry slip road reopens

Welcome news if you’ve been stuck in the jams in Oldbury: The northbound entry slip road onto the M5 from junction two has finally been reopened.

An all too familiar scene...

Certainly wasn’t a good afternoon to be driving on the northbound M5 - some drivers reported getting stuck for more than TWO hours today.

Carriageway to be closed again overnight for resurfacing

Hopefully the delays on the M5 will ease over the course of this evening, but if you are planning to travel on the motorway tonight, I’m afraid it is going to be closed again.

Delays of an hour on northbound M5

The news that the M5 is back open again in time for rush hour will be of huge relief to commuters - but it’s not over yet.
