Plot
A pedophilia witch-hunt is started in Bakersfield by two teenage girls' foppish child abuse claims. Blindly ambitious justice officials, especially in the prosecutor's office, conspire to arrest loving parents Scott and Brenda Kniffen, whose doted pre-teen sons Brian and Brandon are grilled endlessly until they repeat the vicious lies, the elder even ends up believing them while they pass from one foster home to the next, as even the grandparents are denied custody for not turning on their children. The defense's rights are systematically denied, so the parents go to jail for 240 years. The boys are near adulthood when the political tide finally turns.
Keywords: abuse, beating, black-eye, boy, brother-brother-relationship, child-abuse, custody, grandfather, jail, pedophile-witchhunt
Brenda Kniffen: Every night I pray and every morning I wake up to an empty room.
Brenda Kniffen: There is no force or pressure or bribe or price that would ever make me say I did that to my children. I would rather die here alone than ever have them think I did such a thing.
Plot
Jan Schlichtmann, a tenacious lawyer, is addressed by a group of families. When investigating the seemingly non-profiting case, he finds it to be a major environmental issue that has a lot of impact potential. A leather production company could be responsible for several deadly cases of leukemia, but also is the main employer for the area. Schlichtmann and his three colleagues set out to have the company forced to decontaminate the affected areas, and of course to sue for a major sum of compensation. But the lawyers of the leather company's mother company are not easy to get to, and soon Schlichtmann and his friends find themselves in a battle of mere survival.

Justice has its price.
Jerome Facher: What's your take?::Jan Schlichtmann: They'll see the truth.::Jerome Facher: The truth? I thought we were talking about a court of law. Come on, you've been around long enough to know that a courtroom isn't a place to look for the truth.
Al Eustis: You've never been here before? What kind of Harvard man are you?::Jan Schlichtmann: The Cornell kind.
[first lines]::Jan Schlichtmann: [narrating] It's like this. A dead plaintiff is rarely worth as much as a living, severely-maimed plaintiff. However, if it's a long slow agonizing death, as opposed to a quick drowning or car wreck, the value can rise considerably. A dead adult in his 20s is generally worth less than one who is middle aged. A dead woman less than a dead man. A single adult less than one who's married. Black less than white. Poor less than rich. The perfect victim is a white male professional, 40 years old, at the height of his earning power, struck down in his prime. And the most imperfect? Well, in the calculus of personal injury law, a dead child is worth the least of all.
Jan Schlichtmann: The odds of a plaintiff's lawyer winning in civil court are two to one against. Think about that for a second. Your odds of surviving a game of Russian roulette are better than winning a case at trial. 12 times better. So why does anyone do it? They don't. They settle. Out of the 780,000, only 12,000 or 11/2 percent ever reach a verdict. The whole idea of lawsuits is to settle, to compel the other side to settle. And you do that by spending more money than you should, which forces them to spend more money than they should, and whoever comes to their senses first loses. Trials are a corruption of the entire process and only fools who have something to prove end up ensnared in them. Now when I say prove, I don't mean about the case, I mean about themselves.
James Gordon: [To secretary] Every credit-card application we send in, we get two more in the mail. Here's one from some bank I've never heard of, in North Dekota. Fill it out. Fill them all out. It's the last great pyramid scheme in America.
James Gordon: [Regarding the case and the following settlement] Mrs. Anderson, you're looking at four guys who are broke. We lost everything trying this case.::Anne Anderson: How can you even begin to compare what you've lost, to what we've lost.
Jerome Facher: [to law students] Now the single greatest liability a lawyer can have is pride. Pride... Pride has lost more cases than lousy evidence, idiot witnesses and a hanging judge all put together. There is absolutely no place in a courtroom for pride.
James Gordon: [Seeing Uncle Pete for another loan after Schlichtmann's firm is in serious financial trouble] You'll never guess what I did last night. You'll like this. I pledged $200 to a tele-evangelist. I'm not kidding. He said, "Give and ye shall receive." I called him right up. I know, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, "Gordon's losing it. He's falling apart. He's probably buying lottery tickets." I bought a few, I'll admit it. I know. But, seriously, the jackpot's $45 million. That's just this week. You should see the lines out there.::Uncle Pete: [Nods to a bulge in Gordon's pocket] Is that a gun?::James Gordon: What? This? No. No, this is for you. [Empties bag that was in his pocket full of coins] My Krugerrands. I've had them forever. I want you to have them. And... this is the deed to my house. And here is Conway's and Crowley's and Jan's. See? I come bearing gifts. We really need the money.
Jan Schlichtmann: I can appreciate the theatrical value of several dead kids, I mean, I like that. Obviously, that's good. That is all this case has going for it. That's not enough. Get rid of it.
Jan Schlichtmann: The lawyer who shares his client's pain, in my opinion, does his client such a grave disservice, he should have his license to practice law taken away. It clouds his judgment. And that's a beneficial to his client as a doctor who recoils at the sight of blood.
Well, ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
Baby, won't you tell me your name? Yeah
Well, ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
Baby, won't you tell me your name? Yeah
I got a funny little feeling
And it's going right to my brain
Ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
There's a mountain on the top of my head, there is
Ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
There's a mountain on the top of my head, right
I keep on wondering
Sometimes I wish I was dead, it's true
Ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
This pain is breaking me down, down and down
Ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
This pain is breaking me down
I'm like an old scrapped vehicle
Can't turn my wheels around, oh that's right
Well, ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze, come on
Oh, like a bee
Oh, you strung me, baby
Oh it's true, oh right through the heart
Ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
Baby, won't you tell me your name?
Oh, ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
Baby, won't you tell me your name?
You know this funny little feeling's
Getting on top of my brain
Well, ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
I'm gonna write a letter to you, oh yeah
Ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
I'm gonna write a letter to you
Well, declaring my love
And telling you I love you
Ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
Hoping everything goes right
Well, ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze-ze
Hoping everything goes right
Well, I fancy you around me everyday
And every night and every night, oh yeah
Well, here comes that bee again
Oh yeah, stinging me right through
It's on top of my head
Witch, she's a witch and everybody knows
She's a witch and everybody knows
Why does she treat me this way?
Why does she often turn and say
"You can go away, I don't want you here today
You can't play, you cannot play"?
Witch, she's a witch and she's breaking my heart
She's a witch and she's breaking my heart
Why does she mooch around the house
Refer to me as, 'That louse'
Say all those awful things to my friends?
It drives me round the bend
She drives me round the bend
Witch, she's a witch and I want to go
She's a witch and I can't be slow
I must rush down the road
With my little bags packed down the road
I must turn and scream at the passersby
"That woman's told me lies
You can see it in her eyes, she always was a liar"
But in another day she was so good
She'd helped me cut the hedge
Even helped collect firewood
But that was when we was poor
Didn't have a thing, now we've got so much
Our hands are smothered in clusters of rings
She's got little trinkets, a little dog with a bell
That ping, ping, ping, ping, stinks
Witch, she's a witch and everybody knows
She's a witch and everybody knows
I cannot stand her friends anymore
I'm going to wipe them across the floor
I'm going to shout abuse as they drive away
I hate their faces anyway, they laugh at me anyway
Witch, she's a witch and leave me alone
She's a witch and she won't leave me alone
She has this little idea about me
She knows all my secrets, you see
She knows what I do in that little room
She says she's going to lock me in it
Trap me in it like a tomb
Another day, she was so kind
Made little comments about the quality of my mind
Said delicious, delicious things about my figure and hair
I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew
She really cared to share the things we had
Now there's too much and that is bad
Now there's too much of everything bad
And look at this, we don't need this
What have you bought that for, we don't want that
These possessions
Possessions are getting on top of us all
Every little thing, my goodness
White horse, riding across my mind
Wearing a band of gold around your hooves
Collecting the stars, the glint of the stars
In your great and empty eye
The drink I drink is a drink as strong as
The strongest poison in the land
Riding on the back of my horse with his golden band
Who catches the stars in his eye
His great and empty eye
That had never smiled, never noticed me
I would like to think of that he dreamt of me
When he went to sleep at night
That he thought I was the special thing in his life
But to those great eyes, they see nothing
They don't profess poetry
Don't profess insight into me
Now I stand on empty man
Beside the stable door on the stud farm
And the green and gray attendant
Hands me straw, says, "Go feed the horses"
You know, of course he's a dreaming talking horse
Who wears gold bands around his feet
And dreams of stars, and dreams of stars
Take any city, take any town
You'll always find my sort around
On any door step, any tree
Snoozin' bleary, a man like me
Why should you care?
Why should you share?
Why should you want?
Why should you want a man
A man around who's lookin' like me?
I'm lost and lonely, no money at all
Hopin' someday I can recall
A better day and a better way
Somethin' special to hold on to
Why should you care?
Why should you share?
Why should you want?
Why should you need
A man around lookin', lookin' like me?
So, they told me to move on
Pack my scraps and go
Tell me, where can I go?
Where can I go?
And it's startin' to rain
And it's startin' to pour
Reckon I'll hide in some
Fat old rich man's door
Why should you care?
Why should you share?
Why should you want
A man like me
Oh, a man like me around?
Oh, you know a man like
A man like, a man like, a man like
Come on baby, there ain't much time
Join this dance on the party line
Let's stride, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's stride
Come on baby, there ain't much time, stride
Well, forget about the waltz and the ballet glide
Do a dance that's called the stride
Stride, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's stride
Come on baby, there ain't much time, stride
Well, this is a dance that all can do
Come on baby, do it too
Let's stride, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's stride
Come on baby, there ain't much time, let's stride
Stride on, yeah, oh yeah
Oh, I want you to stride for me now
Stride on, yeah
Well, come on, baby, there ain't much time
Get to this dance on the party line
And stride, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's stride
Well, come on baby, there ain't much time, let's stride
Well, I ask you, baby, one more time
Give me some relief for this soul of mine
Let's stride, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's stride
Yeah, well come on, baby, one more time, let's stride
Stride on, away we go
Oh yes, now
Strange locomotion
Over the ocean, baby
You can't find no better place
Strange locomotion
If you got the notion, baby
Get on over the ocean
Take yourself a big fat plane
Get some strange locomotion
Oh well, up and down, way off the ground
Strange, strange, strange locomotion
Up and down, way off the ground
Strange, strange, strange locomotion
Way over the ocean, baby
We've left the land and sea
Got some strange locomotion
Oh oh, alright now
Oh well, up and down, round and round
Strange, strange, strange locomotion
Up and down, way off the ground
Strange, strange, strange locomotion
Over the ocean, baby
We found new land, new sea
Strange locomotion
I've got a notion, baby
Take some strange locomotion, baby
It'll be just for you and me
Take some strange locomotion, alright
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
Well, soon, it's gonna be summer, baby, soon
Soon, we'll feel the summer winds, yeah
We'll have the sun gleaming on our brown backs, baby
Soon, honey, honey, soon
Soon, they'll be no winter, baby
No frost and snow, no cold ice
We'll have the sun beating on our brown backs, baby
I said soon, baby, baby, soon
Soon, I'm gonna see you smiling, darling
Wearing your pink just like you did one summer before, before
You know I feel so lazy, baby, I wanna kiss you, honey
Soon, baby, baby, soon
Oh, summer's here, baby
What more can a good man want?
Oh, summer's here, baby
Laugh at me, baby, I don't care
'Cause soon, you're going to be beaming, baby
Soon, you're gonna be red and brown
You're gonna smile for me just like you smiled before
Oh, I know you will, baby soon, little baby, soon
Soon, it's gonna be summer, baby
You know soon, we're gonna be so happy, baby
We're gonna dance on the beach
Even out of reach
Come here, baby
Let me teach you that
Soon, soon, baby, soon
Soon, soon, baby, soon
Everybody's going to sing
Every bell's going to ring
Oh yes, we're so happy
Everybody's snappy and I love you
And we all are laughing
They say that women are made of bliss
All lips and eyes to flash
All ears of gold and perfect beauty showing
It's all trash
They say that God has arms of Heaven
Smashing crutches laughing
One hundred weight of fleeces
All chaste for his creation but
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
And some dark day
And some dark day
They're going to find they're lying
They say that money makes nasty men
Crushes hearts inside us
They shout out chunks of history
And St. Paul to guide us
I've heard my mother say
"Son, help grown ladies cross the road"
Though she doesn't realize
Grown ladies crush her toes
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
And some dark day
And some dark day
They're going to find they're lying
Some loudmouth speaks of perfect sex
All sweating, muscles coming
I don't know where they got the lie
I just see rooms all rocking
When people say, "Shake hands and smile"
I see the beast all hairy
All they see is a golden mirror
A landscape, lakes and fairies but
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
And some dark day
And some dark day
And some dark day
They're going to find they're lying
My father says
"You must not know because we know already"
He prefers the greens kept right down
He likes his cakewalk steady
I do believe that school taught me
To remember sticks and lashes
Though people tell me school was nice
All flags and toothy flashes but
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
And some dark day
And some dark day
They're going to find they're lying
Come on
Well, okay new boy, hold my hand
Wear the helmet of the dawn
Kiss the smart man close to you
Watch his fist, ooh, here it comes
They say your Vicar wants to help
But that is not true
He's like the rest all in the pen
A pocket's waiting for you
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
They're wrong, they're wrong
And some dark day
And some dark day
Oh yeah, oh, alright
Well, sixteen women live in my home town
You know that sixteen women live in my home town
Fifteen love me, the other tries to put me down
My mother hates me, she don't call my name
My mother hates me, she don't call my name
Everything that happens, she says I'm to blame
When I go home, I take my bag and I rest
Yes, when I go home, I take my bag and I rest
Well, I talk to my sister and get things off my chest
Yeah, yeah, oh
Well, yeah, boy you're good
Well, Mabel loves me, Lucille hates my name
You know Mabel loves me and Lucille hates my name
My father's crazy, he's about half insane
Sixteen women live in my home town
Sixteen women live in my home town, well yeah
Fifteen love me, the other tries to put me down, down, down
Boy that's good, oh yeah
Sixteen women live in my home town, yeah
Oh, sixteen women live in my home town, yeah
Fifteen love me, the other tries to put me down
Down, down, down, yeah
I've seen you, baby, with another boy
Yes another, only nine years old
Don't you think the difference shows?
I'm only twenty-eight, baby
And I have a little style, alright
I've experienced just a few little things
I could make it in a while
If you let me hold your hand
Shake your hand, hold your hand
Alright, I'm a loser, baby
I don't wear short pants and socks
Don't have a lot of curly hair
Tumbling down in golden locks
Maybe you'll have a way with him
How should I really know?
But if you have a way with me
Then baby, please let it show
Come on
Shake my hand, shake my hand
Shake my hand, hold my hand
I've seen your blood boiling, baby
When I accused you of stealing children
But you're, you're, you don't like the lies
You don't like it, baby, and I put you in the wilderness
Thrown you among the thistles, baby
Down among the brown weeds
To see you running with those youngsters
Makes a smart man bleed
Oh, let me hold your hand
Hold your hand, hold your hand
Hold your hand
Just one little note to you, baby
Written on an exercise book before I go
Little blue one, you never seen before
Lines from the top and lines to the bottom
Written in bright red ink
It says, 'The teacher stinks'
Forty-five and with a boy of nine
She wants to get with somebody who can really do time
And shake her hand
Shake her hand, shake her hand
Shake her hand, hold her hand
Shake her hand, baby, and I'll shake yours
Shake her hand, baby, and I'll shake yours
Shake her hand, baby, and I'll shake yours
What's the matter, baby?
Why do you worry so?
There's no reason to quarrel
No reason to go
If you feel sorry, baby
Then I know why
Somebody's been messing with your mind
And made you cry
And made you cry
I'm the doctor
I can help you along
Give you some sustenance
I'll keep you strong
Come into my surgery
It's on the very top floor
You'll feel so quiet there
You'll want to go and see
And have some more
There's flowers in my garden, baby
But it's alright now
I've saved all the flowers, baby
I've kept them for you
They're in a big Chinese bowl, baby
On the top of the stairs
They match nicely with the curtains
And they look well with the chairs
I've good intentions, baby
I don't mean you no harm
I've given you my word, my baby
I've given you my lucky charm
One forceps
One pair of knives
One pair of goggles, baby
Two glass eyes
So, when you see me, baby
I don't want to see you cry
That would only hurt me, baby
Only make me lie
My intentions are unsure now
I'm all qualified to lie
I have myself a bright white coat
I can help you to fly
Alright, the next patient, Miss Faversham
Is someone we know very well
We saw her out in the garden with the flowers
And she was crying
But she needs help
And I've told her to come to the top floor
Where I reside and sit amongst the magazines
The Novas and the Woman's Owns
Reside with me
'Cause I'm the doctor
Yeah, I'm the doctor
It's a sleepy lagoon
On a tropical island we will go to
No thoughts of cruelty, no hurt or pain
And the coconuts bouncing by
The coconuts bouncing by
And the sand all yellow
And the sand all yellow
And the sand all yellow
And the sand all yellow
Now, that I'm getting old and
Now, I'm getting cold and
There's nothing left to say
Just like a daffodil, you know I will
You know wilting in my way
And I need somebody
Yes, I need somebody
Yes, I need, need somebody
Now, I know I'm getting old
This is a lonely life
Man, without your wife
Without a bed or view
I'm always at the gate
And I'm always late
'Cause there's nothing left to do
And I need somebody
Yes, I need, need somebody
Yes, I need, I need somebody
Now, I know I'm getting old
Strange tunes in my head
I'll think I'll go to bed
I think I'll change the sheets and all
Maybe do some drawing
Do some painting
An antelope across my wall
And I need somebody
Yes, I need, need somebody
Yes, I need anybody
Now, I know I'm getting old
A visitor out on the lawn
His hair all shorn
Is he friend or is he foe?
Is he a man I know?
Is he someone to sow?
Is he someone to say hello?
And I need somebody
Yes, I need, need somebody
Yes, I need, need somebody
Now, I know I'm getting old
So, I'm so confused
I'm so bemused
I think I'll settle down
Lie down on anywhere
Maybe in this chair
Anywhere I just don't care
Because I need somebody
Yes, I need, oh, somebody
Yes, I need anybody
Now, I know I'm getting old
The friend I saw is at the door
He says, "Hello, once more
I met you down the road"
Great long fingers holding out
I want to shout
What's the point because he knows
That I need, I need somebody
Yes, I need somebody
Yes, I need almost anybody
Now, I know I'm getting old
Yes, I need, I need somebody
Yes, I need, I need somebody
Oh, I need almost anybody
Oh we're high, out on a highway
Driving, rushing down a sweaty road
Past those suburban drinking bars
Searching for, searching for my white and celluloid star
And my message to the people
Is don't tie me to your steeple
Don't put me in the stocks in your market square
Hey, hey you nameless dropper
Of nameless names
Don't you know I'ma going to get the fame?
Going to get the flame
A day penciled in for me
I'll get the glee, I'll arrive at me
Can't you see I'm going to be there?
Oh yeah when the chimes ring out
And my message to the people
Don't tie me to your sacred steeple
Don't you put me in the stocks in your market square
So, it's hey razzle-dazzle
I'm about to dazzle
I'm about to frazzle somewhere
And when you say "Who? Who is he?"
You know it's gonna be me
'Cause my face is there
For all of you to see, every day
Upside inside out every way
And when they say, "Ooh la la"
At the party on the hill, I'll still get a thrill
Even though that castle's tumbling down
I won't wear a frown 'cause I waited so long
And my message to the people
Is don't you tie me to your steeple
Don't you put me in your stocks in your market square
Oh, razzmatazz
Yes, pick up that glass
Oh, the funky livin' life
The life, the strife of jazz
So watch out people
Here I'm coming, here I'm running
My gold leaden boots on my feet
Well, I'm in your stairway, your airway to the stars
So, I don't mind though
You pretend to be blind
Maybe tomorrow
You will alleviate my sorrow
Eh eh, watch me now
As into the tangle I go
And my message to the people
Is I love you all you people
And I'll find my own stocks
And I'm digging my own market square
Hey, dance on your mother's grave
Hey, you know I'm a media, I'm a media slave
Your Beatle cuttin', sure fottin' savin' rave
And my message to the people
Is that people will be people
Girl of my dream, Marlene

Mandy Lee, Mandy Lee
Chill running down my frame
Yeah, why won't you come on home
It's in his head, it's in his head
It's in his head, it's in his head
It's in his head, it's in his head
It's in his head, it's in his head
Fetch the doctor
Doctor will sort him out
Fetch the doctor
The doctor will sort him out

Mad boy, mad boy
Mad boy, mad boy
Can't make it any more
It's in his brain, it's in his brain
It's in his brain, it's in his brain
It's in his brain, it's in his brain
It's in his brain, it's in his brain
Fetch the doctor

Mad boy, mad boy
Mad boy, mad boy
Can't make it any more
It's in his head, it's in his head
It's in his head, it's in his head
It's in his head, it's in his head
It's in his head, it's in his head
Fetch the doctor
The doctor's on the scene
Fetch the d-d-d-doctor
He will make it easy, nice and clean
Mad boy, mad boy
Mad boy, mad boy
Can't make it any more
It's in his brain, it's in his brain
It's in his brain, it's in his brain
It's in his brain, it's in his brain
It's in his brain, it's in his brain
Fetch the doctor
The doctor's gone away
Fetch a doctor
See you again another day, boy, mad
Mad boy, mad boy
Mad boy, mad boy
Can't hope anymore
Anymore, anymore, anymore
He's in the van, he's in the van
He's in the van, he's with the man
He's in the van, he's in the van
He's in the van, he's with the man
Fetch the doctor
The doctor's done his job
Put him out to grass in the park
Put him out, no more trouble
No more difficulties with his mother
Nothing more to say but
Mad boy, mad boy
Mad boy, mad boy
He can't make it anymore
Anymore, anymore, anymore
Anymore, anymore, anymore
Anymore, anymore, anymore
Anymore, anymore, anymore
Anymore, anymore, anymore
Anymore, anymore, anymore
Foreign city crowded, there's nowhere to go
See you in the bar, wandering round, I try to touch you
I try to tell you what, you can see the base in me
You can see what I've got
Chorus: Let me be, let me be, let me be with you (x2).
I'm half-crippled, savage guilt inside
Taking my best friend, my best friend for a ride
The pulse rate beating, filthy thoughts
I don't want anyone to say, I don't want a bad report, no
Chorus
We were like kings and princes floating up and down around the room
I was a petal bursting flower, I was fully-fledged in bloom, in that room,
In that room
So it's over, I'm whisked back home
Another fat failure, another alone
So riddled with guilt inside, what am I going to say?
When the voice whispers in your ear, "Did you have a lovely day?"
Chorus
We were like children then, we did what we could, we said what we could, we
Flew
I'm like a finished man now
What on earth is my mind going to do?
With memories of you
Yeah, they call him the Karate King
Chopping children down like trees
Bringing cows to their knees
Making their udders bleed
Now they call him the Karate King
Top of the shop in his robe
Nothing there can grow
When he's around
Going chop, chop
Going chop, chop
Going chop, chop
Down in the gymnasium
They call him the Karate King
Like a bird on a wing
Standing posing at the window
At the door in his vest
His white and muscled flexing at all the passing girls
Smashing his way through the window frames
Ripping apart his mother's pearls
They're dying on the dressing table
Chop, chop
Chop, chop
Chop, chop
Chop, chop
So if you see the Karate King
Help him, help him
Maybe you'll tie, tie his shoe laces
Come on, come on, comment on his pomaded hair
Tell him he would have been an excellent
Kamikaze pilot in the Second World War
'Cause that's what he wants to hear
That's what he wants to hear in the gymnasium
Chop, chop
Chop, chop
Little white hands in the atomic night
The face of the future so clear and bright
There's leopards leaping before your eyes
See your face so clear and wise
Chorus:
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, I'll go too (x2)
You run down your garden, there's someone there
She's got white hands and long blonde hair
Now naked laughter is no more a sin
So enjoy yourself and jump on in
Chorus
You're dancing there on a spiky lawn
You're singing past midnight until dawn
It feels so good, good to be alive
I had a vision of this in 1955 (and it's coming true)
Chorus
Come round my house, we'll have some fun
You can dance on the tables and fire your guns
They're just rubber bullets, won't cause no pain
You'll laugh and love again and again (you're in heaven)
My baby's a hot potato
This song's about a girl called a hot potato
She couldn't learn to dance, so, I had to make her
And I call her my hot potato
'Cause she can dance all around the floor
There it goes
My baby's a hot potato
She can't dance but I know I'll make her
She's so dumb, she can't see
Her lack of ability is killing me
She's gotta be a hot potato
She's gotta be a hot potato
Soon, she's got to learn to rock
She's got to learn to roll
She's got to learn to move
She's got to get some soul
Oh baby, get up off that chair
Hold my hand, you'll soon be there
Dance with me baby, my baby's a hot potato
You gotta be a hot potato, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm gonna take you
Take you downtown
I'm gonna show you the bright lights
Show you around
You'll soon learn to dance
Like you've never done before
You'll learn to rock
You'll learn to shake the floor
My baby's a hot potato
Bound to be a hot potato yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, she's dancing now
Oh, she learnt so fast
Down and around she goes
Up and down, round and round
Up and down, round and round
Oh hot potato, hot potato
So, you've learned
You know what to do
Now, you're my girl
You're gonna love me true
I'm gonna kiss you, I'm gonna take you out
There ain't no barriers, now, we can shout, alright
Oh, we're both hot potatos
We're both hot potatos, now, right now
Away we go
We're going round and round
Away we go
We're going round and round
Oh, up and down
Oh, up and down
Oh, up and down, baby
Oh, up and down, baby
Work it out
We're both hot potatos
Well, God bless the bride, the sun shines on today
I said, God bless the bride, the sun shines on today
Well, God bless her roses and God bless her veil
God bless her love, I hope it don't fail
Well, God bless the bride, the sun shines on today
Well, God bless the groom waiting in the sun
Well, God bless the groom waiting in the sun
Well, God bless his suit and God bless his hair
God bless his love, hope he gets there
Well, God bless the groom waiting in the sun
Well, God bless the hotel standing by the sea
Well, God bless the hotel standing by the sea
Well, God bless its room with the little pot dogs
God bless the tudor and God bless the logs
Well, God bless the hotel standing by the sea
Well, God bless the family they have left behind
I said, God bless the family they have left behind
God bless the mother and God bless dad
God bless the sister, hope she's not sad
Well, God bless the family they have left behind
Well, God bless the night-time, that's the time for love
I said, God bless the night-time and that's the time for love
God bless the gowns and God bless the bed
God bless the love light over their head
Well, God bless the night-time, that's the time for love
Well, God bless the future and I hope it's not too dim
I said, God bless the future, I hope it's not too dim
Well, God bless the babies and God bless the house
Keep the garden tidy, keep the problems out
I'm honest if I think I say, baby
That I wouldn't lie for a day, no
Oh, if I had, baby, if I had your money
I don't believe I would steal, no no
If I could smell, touch and feel, yes
The crackling crispness, baby
The evil newness of your money, money, money
Of your money, money, money
I know I never stoop so low, so low
To lace your shoes, baby, lace your shoes
And brush your clothes, no
And wash your windows and make your plants grow
If I had your money, oh money, lovely money, yes, alright
Yeah, yeah come on
But you, you make it all so very clear to me
That you think, you think my postulations, dear oh
But you keep on paying, baby
And I keep on praying, baby, for your money, for your money
I have a friend who tells me daily, yeah daily
That you're a bitch, baby, and not a lady
She says you're sour and I send her flowers
With your money, with your money, oh yeah
Oh, so beware and lock your strong room
Before its existence makes you a tomb, oh, to die in baby
That's dark and chilling, that holds your meanness
Not your money, baby, not your money
I'm the man in your garden
I'm the man who grows the fruit
Come along with me, baby
Pick a fruit that suits
I've got some apples
I've got some pears
Come on and take a bite
You can have your share
'Cause I'm your gardener man
Well, I'm your gardener man
Yes, I'm your gardener man
I'm your G A R D E N E R
I'm your gardener man
Well, come down to my cottage
There's roses outside the door
It's such a nice cottage
You'll want to go there some more
Well, come into my green house
It ain't too hot
Come on have a look at these tropical plants
Come see what I've got
'Cause I'm your gardener man
Sweet gardener man
Yes, I'm your gardener man
I'm your G A R D E N E R
I'm your gardener man
Never mind the weather
You can come inside
I have all the plants out here
I won't take you for a ride
Come, join me in my garden
I'm your best friend
I wanna be your gardener man
Until the end
'Cause I'm your gardener man
Well, I'm your gardener man
Sweet gardener man
I'm your gardener man
I'm your G A R D E N E R
I'm your gardener man
I'm your gardener man
I'm your G A R D E N E R
Your gardener man
Flowering cherry, roses bloom
Sunlight streaming into my room, Lord
Winter's waning, summer's new
I love my baby, yes it's true
You know I'll always love you
You know I'll always love you
You know I'll always need you
You know I'll always want you
Summer roaming through the park
Light and brightness, darling, no more dark
Flowering cherry, love on fire
Baby loves me, my desire
You know I'll always love you
You know I'll always love you
You know I'll always need you
You know I'll always want you
You know I'll always need you
You know I'll always love you
You know I'll always need you
You know I'll always want you
Flowering cherry, roses bloom
Sunlight streaming into my room, Lord
Winter's waining, summer's new
I love my baby, yes it's true, Lord
Oh yeah
Yes it's true, Lord
First time I saw your face
Oh, what a lovely face
What a face and what a smile
For me, yeah, yeah, yeah
A wonderland of light and blue
Oh baby, when I met you
What a smile and full of love
For me yeah, yeah, yeah
First time I saw your face
I saw that state of grace
A perfect dream just walking by
For me yeah, yeah, yeah
The finest dreams for ever more
You opened all the doors
Now, I know I have your love
And it's real, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
First time I saw your face
I saw our first embrace
Held you close from across the room
And it was real, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
You went on floating by
I saw that look in your eye
It was love and real love
That I could feel
First time I saw your face
Oh, what a lovely face, yeah
What a face and what a smile
For me, yeah, yeah
A wonderland of light and blue
Baby, when I met you
What a smile and full of love
All for me, all for me
First time I saw your face
I saw a bit of grace
A perfect dream just walking by
See the sand and the white birds swooping low
I see the sea and the dead fish floating by
I see the grass as it's growing up my door
And hear my dog as he's crying for his bone
This is my home, my evil island home
This is my home, my evil island home
See the stoat and the sharp-billed razorbill
You know they're pecking away
At my crumbling window sills
And the ice on the mountain range below
Is starting to melt
And we'll soon be washed with snow
This is my home, my evil island home
Oh, this is my home, my evil island home
I want to fly but they've taken my wings away
I want to run but I know I have to stay
I may coax the beast that wanders on the shore
To lend me his back, so I can ride away once more
This is my home, my evil island home
I want to take a trip to Araby
I want to take a trip to Araby
I want to see the sun descend on a maiden's knees
I want to ride in a great bronze butterfly
I want to ride in a great bronze butterfly
I want to see the sun descend in a great big blue Arabian sky
I want to go where white men never go
I want to go where white men never go
I want to see those natives dancing their ho-di-ho, dancing their
Oh, dance all night
I want to take my trip to Araby
I want to take my trip to Araby
You know it's a-ra-ra-ra, a-ra-ra-ra
You used to love me and you used to breathe my name
Now you don't love me and I think the sun's to blame
You found a rich man and he's got an fancy yacht
And I wonder, yes, I wonder
I wonder do you need me
I know I'm a poor man but I should be given a chance
I used to hold you close down at the Palais de Dance
But now I'm crying and you don't even care
And I wonder, yes, I wonder
I wonder do you need me
I'm a loving wreck and I'm waiting waiting time
Just to wait for a letter, waiting for a line
I'm struck here, baby, down by the Serpentine
And I wonder, yes, I wonder
I wonder do you need me
London's a dreary place when there ain't no place to go
People just seat around and they don't talk to me no more
I'ma lonely, ragged and sad and blue
And I wonder, yes, I wonder
Well, I got the fire, I got the home
My girl's near me, I'm never alone
She's so nice and she know
Just what to do, what to do
Oh I love you, girl, I love you, girl
Come here, baby, you're out of this world
You're my girl
I'm relaxing with Bonnie Lou, oh yeah
When I get home
I'm tired and full of woe
She follows me wherever I go
Pat my hair
Makes me sit on down, sit on down
Oh come here, baby, once again
I wanna love you since I don't know when
I'm relaxing, it ain?t taxing
I'm relaxing with Bonnie Lou, oh yeah
Bonnie Lou, she's a cutie
Though she's fat and old
I love her, she loves me
My girl's never cold
Come here, baby
Oh show me what you can do
I've got my beady eyes on you
I wanna relax, I wanna relax
With my Bonnie Lou, oh yeah, oh
Well, Bonnie Lou, she's a cutie
Though she's fat and old
I love her, she loves me
My girl's never cold
So come here baby
Show me what you can do
I've got my beady eyes on you
I'm waiting here, waiting
For you to open the door
Yes, I love her and she loves me
She knows, she knows what to do
I'm relaxing, relaxing
With my Bonnie Lou, oh yes
Relaxing with my Bonnie Lou
She knows just what to do
When I come home, she's there
She knows how to care, yeah
Bonnie Lou, my Bonnie Lou
We know the Pope is too old to rock'n'roll and quite aware that he's got no soul
You see me and I stand outside the Palais de Dance, I'm rattling my bones, I'm pogoing, I'm giving my self a little chance these...
Chorus: Dynamite dynamite days, dynamite dynamite days, dynamite dynamite days
Oh I'm in a rage I'm in a rage I'm in a rage oh I'm in a rage waiting for the dynamite days.
Everybody here better hear what I say, I'm over forty but I'm gonna have my way
You little punks, come out to play
I'll bounce like a ball, I'll bounce like a ball, what do you say?
Chorus - Solo - Chorus x3
Wake up my children
Wake up my children
Wake up my children
Your daddy is coming home
Your daddy is coming home
Your daddy is coming home
Your daddy is on his way

He's at the door now
Coming nearer and nearer
Wake up my children

He's only a few hours away
He's only a few days away
He's only a few years away
Only a century away, yeah
Wake up my children
Wake up my children
Wake up my children
Your daddy's never coming
Your daddy's never coming
Your daddy's never coming
You know he's gone for good now
Wake up my children
Wake up my children, yeah
Wake up my children
Be real nice for your daddy
Put away those baddies
Be real nice for your daddy
Do away with baddies
Wake up my children, yeah
You must see my children
There's no more fighting, yes
Your daddy is coming home
Your daddy is coming home
Your daddy is coming home

War is over, baby, fighting's all done
You can put away, baby, the big machine gun
War is over, no use for fighting anymore
Anymore, baby, no, no
War is over, ain't no use for fighting anymore
You can hang up your gloves, baby
There ain't no champion no more
You can go away, baby, lock your old back door
Take a holiday somewhere, somewhere
'Cross the sea, 'cross the sea, without me, baby
Oh, the war is over, baby
It's over, baby, for you and me, oh yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, come on
You can ground the aeroplane, put away the kites
You can take everything about
You can put away the search lights
You don't need no camouflage
You don't need, no, no, no, no, you need nothing, baby
Oh, the war is over, baby
Ain't no use fighting anymore
Anymore, oh, it's all done now, oh, yes
The war is over, baby, yeah, over, baby, yeah
Over, baby, yeah, ain't no use fighting now
Stuff away your machine gun
Fetch me my woman, hey
I just want her near me now
Don't want any, any, anybody else
I just want her near me now
Fetch me my woman
Want her right by my side, yes, I do, yes, I do
Got that long black hair, oh yeah
Keep a good fat boy satisfied
Fetch me my good girl
I know she understands, know she understands
Fetch me my good girl
She's mine, she shows me
She shows me the promised land
Fetch me my good girl
She's all I need to keep me satisfied
She got the long black hair, alright
Never try to take me for a ride, oh no
Fetch me my woman
So hot and smooth
Oh, she don't give anything
Anything but love
Oh, fetch me my woman, oh, she's all I need
All I need, all I need, all I need
She left me today
Oh, she has caused my heart to bleed
Oh, fetch me my woman, oh yes, oh yes, oh yes
I don't think she want me
I'm down in the mire, babe
Since you not been around
Everybody's talking crazy at me
I think I'd better be homeward bound
She might be home today, tomorrow
She might be home today, tomorrow
She might be home today
Fetch me my woman
I know she wants me to have my way
Wants me to have my way, oh yeah, oh yeah
Fetch me my woman
Here she comes
Here she comes
She went up north
Just for a few days
Just for a few days
But she never returned
I know she has her secret ways of teasing me
But I'd rather be dead
If she's gonna tease me anymore, anymore
She got that long, long black hair
I just can't stand the pain anymore, anymore, oh yes
Fetch me my woman
Oh, fetch me my woman
Fetch me my woman
Fetch me my woman, all you men
I know she may be teasing me
Long black hair, not pleasing me
Fetch me my woman, baby, oh
Fetch me my woman
Cheat me, cheat me
Baby, cheat me, cheat me
No you won't cheat me
'Cause I'm gonna cheat myself
Kiss me, baby, kiss me
Kiss me, baby, kiss me
No, you won't kiss me
'Cause I'm gonna kiss myself
Love me, baby, love me
Love me, oh, love me
No, you ain't gonna love me
'Cause I'm gonna love myself
Oh yeah, alright
Marry me, marry me
Marry me, baby, marry me
No, you ain't gonna marry me
I'm gonna marry myself
Twist me, twist me
Twist me round your finger, baby, baby, twist me
No, you ain't gonna twist me
I'm gonna twist myself
I'm the top, I'm the top
I'm the top, baby, you know I'm the top
I'm the top, pretty baby
Oh yeah
Nights and days I waited for you
Waited for your love so true
But I'm wasting my time
Yes, I'm just losing my mind
I'm stuck here with misery
And your love, dear, could set me free
But I'm wasting my time
Yes, I'm just losing my mind
Well, I'm waiting in windows, waiting in doors
Walking across those bedroom floors
But I'm wasting my time
Yes, I'm just losing my mind
Well, give me a chance or give me a break
How much more can a poor boy take?
I'm wasting my time
Yes, I'm just losing my mind
Well, I'm drunk as can be
Your love could set me free
I need, yes I do, a loving so true
But I'm wasting my time
Yes, I'm just losing my mind
Well, can't you understand I need you so?
I never want to let you go
But I'm wasting my time
Yes, I'm just losing my mind
Well, I need you, baby, more and more
But last night, darling, you slammed the door
And I'm wasting my time
Yes, I'm just losing my mind
Well, I'm pleading, sweetheart, oh, don't let me down
I need you baby, need you around
But I'm wasting my time
Yes, I'm just losing my mind
Everybody's dancing, yes, at the chairman's ball
Everybody's prancing, yes, at the chairman's ball
You can see the mayor and his wife
Dancing there the first time in their lives
You can see the chief of police
Dancing with his only niece
At the ball oh the chairman's ball
Well, you;ve got to get your ticket and go now for the chairman's ball
Anyone who's anyone is in the know about oh the chairman's ball
The committee, they're all there
Sitting in their roped-off square
All the patients, they're in a line
And every one of them is feelin' fine
At the ball oh the chairman's ball oh the chairman's ball
Well now soon as midnight comes around at the chairman's ball
You know you know you can't be found at the chairman's ball
Now you know you've had your fun
Now you know you've got to run
Now you know you've had your fun
Be thankful nobody used a gun
Working, talking to myself
Oh there's nobody else
Oh see the lights down below
Watch them swirl as they go
D.J. in leopard skin
Face all drawn and face all thin
Walking the line for you
What am I gonna do?
Monkey man on my back
I fell my spirit crack crack crack
Working and talking to myself
Sometimes there's no-one else
There was a little boy with cracked knees
Standing by the waters edge and he started to cry
Fedding swans Sundays, oh see the lovers they lay
Sweet sweet sweet memories
Oh I don't know what to say
All these lights getting in my way
Turn them down, don't let them shine
Coyne
Talking to no-one is strange,
Talking to someone is stranger
You might be in danger yeah
If you say too much in this world
Being on your own is hard
Being with someone is harder
All the confusion inside you
And there's no-one to guide you
I once found a friend, someone I could care for
Now that friend has gone, I might find a friend in the end
Chorus
Ou know I want to
Go back
Somewhere
Where the
Warmth is,
Anywhere,
Oh I don't care
Talking to no-one is strange,
Talking to someone is stranger
You might be in danger yeah
If you say too much in this world
Being on your own is hard
Being with someone is harder
All the confusion inside you
And there's no-one to guide you
I once found a friend, someone I could care for
The rain it speaks
Walls rock
Minds meet
Sweetness shouts
The rain it speaks
Walls rock
Minds meet
Sweetness shouts
I'm sliced like a cucumber
Cracked like an egg
Sitting like a little dog
Waiting to beg for you, for him, for me, for you, for some, for something
Holding on
Screaming on
Finding on
Screaming on
Holding on
Fighting on
Screaming on
Fighting on
Sliced like a cucumber
Cracked like an egg
Sitting like a little dog
Waiting to beg for you, for him, for you, for him, for you, for him, for you, for him and you
The rain it falls
The snow it comes
Barricades burn
The world it turns
The rain it falls
The snow it comes
Barricades burn
The world it turns
Sliced like a cucumber
Cracked like an egg
Sitting like a little dog
Waiting to beg for you, for him, for you, for him, for you, for him, for you
Rivers run backwards
Dogs fly aeroplanes
The deaf suddenly hear
Cats learn to swim
Jack Dunn, son of a gun, over in France today, Keeps fit doing his bit up to his eyes in clay. Each night after a fight to pass the time along, He's got a little gramophone that plays this song:
Take me back to dear old Blighty! Put me on the train for London town! Take me over there, Drop me ANYWHERE, Liverpool, Leeds, or Birmingham, well, I don't care!
I should love to see my best girl, Cuddling up again we soon should be,
Are you lost in the wilderness?
Are you crying on your won?
Are you stabbing into the sunlight?
When all the heat has gone
You're not the only one (x2)
You're not the only one to be alone
You're not the only one (x2)
You're not the only one to be alone, alone
Are you crying into your pillow?
Does the bed seems like a rock of ice?
Are you feeling kind of personal?
But there's no-one there to be nice
Chorus
You're not the only one (x2)
You're not the only one on your own
You're not the only one (x2)
You're not the only one to be alone, alone
But there's hope in the future
All roads will slowly unwind
If you hold out your tiny hands
And open up your savage mind
You're not the only one (x2)
You're not the only one to be alone
You're not the only one (x2)
Oh yes, now
Strange locomotion
Over the ocean, baby
You can't find no better place
Strange locomotion
If you got the notion, baby
Get on over the ocean
Take yourself a big fat plane
Get some strange locomotion
Oh well, up and down, way off the ground
Strange, strange, strange locomotion
Up and down, way off the ground
Strange, strange, strange locomotion
Way over the ocean, baby
We've left the land and sea
Got some strange locomotion
Oh oh, alright now
Oh well, up and down, round and round
Strange, strange, strange locomotion
Up and down, way off the ground
Strange, strange, strange locomotion
Over the ocean, baby
We found new land, new sea
Strange locomotion
I've got a notion, baby
Take some strange locomotion, baby
It'll be just for you and me
Take some strange locomotion, alright
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
Strange locomotion, baby
I say now Juliet, you lost your heart and soul, you don't believe in a thing at all, no no no no You lost your spirit again
I say Mark, you sit in the dark, sitting facing the wall, nobody seems to ever call no no no You lost your spirit again
Funny how the gramophone never seems to play when you're down, when you're down
You open up the curtains and the world is spinning round, round and round
Said Juliet, read all the books, you read them all, you tore them up no no no You lost your spirit again
I say Mark, don't stay in the dark, climb a wall, punch a hole through the ceiling, anything no no no You lost your spirit again
Funny how the gramophone never seems to play when you're down
You open up the curtains and the world seems to go round and round, round and round
I said Juliet, yes I'm knocking, knocking on your walls and pipes and doors no no no You lost your spirit again
I said Mark, there's a lark in the sky singing, punch a hole in that roof, see the sky no no no You lost your spirit again
Funny how the gramophone never seems to play when you're down You open up the curtains and the world seems to go round and round I said Juliet, I've lost patience, I'm running, gonna catch a train, no no no no I found my spirit again
I said Mark, I've been in the dark with you too long in the corners, I'm moving out no no no no I found my spirit again
And it's funny how the gramophone never seems to play when you're down, when you're down You open up the curtains and the world goes round and round Juliet, hope you see me, hope you see me smiling in the park today cause no no no no I found my spirit again
Marjory Razorblade is as keen and sharp as can be
Will always settle my problems for me
She will sort out all my dusty neighbors
Cut a swatch right through their undignified ways
And if they talk about me behind my back
She will not play their game
She will not play that game
She will not play their game
Oh, Marjory Razorblade, oh, what a picture she made
In her long and her fusty dress and her hair that she plaited best
Oh, what a woman, what a tongue, what an abrasive manner
And if anyone upsets me they will regret it, they will regret it
Oh, she's mine though she's over fifty nine
She's experience of the world far beyond my years
Oh, mother me Marjory, oh, Razorblade
We are not puppets, we are not toys, we are not jewels in your crown, good girls and boys
Oh brothers and sisters, can't you see? All we need is a loving hand, a hand that's free
We are not mud, we are not wood, you can not control our souls, you know you should but
Oh brothers and sisters, can't you see? Times have changed and we need a hand that's free
We're not in a circle, we don't belong to your lies, we're looking into the future, luscious changing times
Oh brothers and sisters, can't you see? All we need is a loving hand, a hand that's free
Show us your heart, it sounds so strong, we can work together, life and love all night long
Oh brothers and sisters, can't you see? Nights and days in use are really free
I only want to see you smile
You know I like it when you smile
It's such a marvelous smile
And you know it's deep like heaven
I want to be your friend
I truly want to be your friend
And the letters that I send
Are filled with heart and love dear
Chorus: A million lullabies
I can see them in your eyes
But last night the lies
Obscured the truth that I love you
Little girl, everywhere your arm surrounds me
Little girl, everytime, I'm glad you found me
It goes on and on
I'll always sing a song
Because our love is strong
We can wipe away the tears and silence
Hold me close
Just a little close
You can ease away the times and pain
And the sadness I felt before you
Heaven is here - so sharp Lightening up that awful dark Building dreams that are turning real - oh so real
Dark days creep away I'm on the road to Mandalay One hug and kiss and I begin to fall down
In silent prayer
Honey I believe in love (x3) Believe in love (x2)
I was so lonely all the time Now I've found words that rhyme No cliches, I'm running wild
I'm a poet I can sing better than before The black dog has left my door Hear my voice searing through the clouds And high unto hills
Honey I believe in love (x3) Believe in love (x2 Honey I believe in love (x3) Believe in love, believe in love
Honey honey honey I believe in love (x2) Honey I believe in love Believe in love (x2)
Coyne
An old man surrounded by his books
Trestle table pilled with old newspapers
Fifteen cats scratching at his door
Filfth and mess all across the floor
Chorus: It's alright Mrs. Brown, you know Mrs. Carter
He's a luna-luna-luna-luna-luna-luna-lunatic (x2).
Still used to walk with your spotty dog
Gazing for hours at the flower beds
Under the victorian canopy
Knocking the leaves of the dead trees
You're a luna-luna-luna-luna-luna-luna-lunatic (x2)
The open ward is the place for you
Where someone they will tie your shoes
You'll have visitors one every year
And you don't have to cry, there's a million tears, everyone cries there
Chorus
And still you walk with your spotty dog
Gazing for hours at the flower beds
Under the victorian canopy
Picking the leaves of the dead trees
Yes, you're a luna-luna-luna-luna-luna-luna-lunatic (x4)
Still used to walk with your spotty dog
Gazing for hours at the flower beds
Under the victorian canopy
Wild palms in the hinterland
Stretches of yellow sand
A blue bird trapped in my hand
It's hard to understand
It must be a sign of the times - times
It must be a sign of the time - time - time - time - time
My friend can't talk no more
He just gazes at his kitchen floor
Building a boat that will never float
Packing it with animals and bags of oats
Must be yes a sign of the times - times
It must be a sign of the times - sign of the times
Oh give me a sign
Oh what is the sign?
Oh what is their line?
Oh a sign - a sign - any sign - any line - any time - any sigh - any lie - not mine - not mine
I'm building
What am I building?
I'm working
Why am I working?
My hands are clean and never dirty
I wear something and it hurts me
Must be my sign of the times
Must be yes my sign of the times
Sign of the times
Must be - give me a sign
Oh any sign
Oh any sign
Oh any line - any sign - any rhyme - any time - not mine
It's not mine It's not mine It's not mine It's not mine It's not mine
My mother, she knows
I really think she knows
Taken to painting her toes
Taken to wear those odd clothes
Must be a sign of the times - times
Must be a sign of the times - times - sign of the times
So you can help me
Let me know you can help me
Make it a positive sign
Cos this face is not really mine
Must be a sign of my mind - mind - mind
Must be a sign of the times - sign of the time
A sign of the times
My face is not mine
