Russia’s famous aerobatic team, the Russian Knights, has received an upgrade of four Sukhoi Su-30SM jets to its fleet of Su-27s, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The stunt team was created in 1991 as part of Russia’s then Air Force and is currently the only aerobatic display group to fly heavy Su-27 Flankers.

"Today, Irkut Corporation handed over to them four aircraft," the Ministry’s spokesman said. "By the end of 2016, the Russian Knights will receive from Irkut a second batch of four Su-30SMs."

The newest addition, the Su-30SMs, are generation 4++ fighters built by JSC Irkut Corporation. The handover ceremony was held at the Kubinka airbase near Moscow and attended by Viktor Bondarev, the chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
