In 2013, I was given a once-in-a-lifetime all-expenses-paid opportunity to reunite my mother's family with cousins in Sweden. Three generations passed after my great grandfather emigrated from that country to the United States. In that time, all contact was lost. In return for the favor from the Swedish people, all I had to do was allow Sveriges Television to record my journey as I participated in various contests and trips that taught me about Swedish history and culture. This is the first episode of that television series. In this third episode I learned about Baltazar Von Plat and the massive Swedish Public Works project known as the Göte Kanal and the Swedish National Day. My children's picture book "The Swedish Girl of Motala" was entirely inspired by this experience. Many guests on this show cried when they were eliminated. But not me! I was very happy to go.
