The British Museum is a museum dedicated to human history, art, and culture, located in the Bloomsbury area of London. Its permanent collection, numbering some 8 million works, is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence and originates from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.
The British Museum was established in 1753, largely based on the collections of the physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane. The museum first opened to the public on 15 January 1759, in Montagu House in Bloomsbury, on the site of the current museum building. Its expansion over the following two and a half centuries was largely a result of an expanding British colonial footprint and has resulted in the creation of several branch institutions, the first being the British Museum (Natural History) in South Kensington in 1881. Some objects in the collection, most notably the Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon, are the objects of controversy and of calls for restitution to their countries of origin.
London i/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties: the small district of the City of London and the county of Greater London. The latter constitutes the vast majority of London, though historically it was split between Middlesex (a now abolished county), Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.
A museum (/mjuˈziːəm/; myoo-zee-um) is an institution that cares for (conserves) a collection of artifacts and other objects of artistic, cultural, historical, or scientific importance and makes them available for public viewing through exhibits that may be permanent or temporary. Most large museums are located in major cities throughout the world and more local ones exist in smaller cities, towns and even the countryside. Museums have varying aims, ranging from serving researchers and specialists to serving the general public. The goal of serving researchers is increasingly shifting to serving the general public.
Some of the most attended museums include the Louvre in Paris, the National Museum of China in Beijing, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the British Museum in London, the National Gallery in London and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. There are many types of museums, including art museums, natural history museums, science museums, war museums and children's museums.
Science Museum may refer to:
Natural history is the research and study of organisms including animals, fungi and plants in their environment, leaning more towards observational than experimental methods of study. It encompasses scientific research but is not limited to it, with articles nowadays more often published in science magazines than in academic journals. Grouped among the natural sciences, natural history is the systematic study of any category of natural objects or organisms. That is a very broad designation in a world filled with many narrowly focused disciplines. So while natural history dates historically from studies in the ancient Greco-Roman world and the mediaeval Arabic world, through to European Renaissance naturalists working in near isolation, today's field is more of a cross discipline umbrella of many specialty sciences. For example, geobiology has a strong multi-disciplinary nature combining scientists and scientific knowledge of many specialty sciences.
A person who studies natural history is known as a naturalist or natural historian.

Millions and millions of people have flocked through the doors of Madame Tussauds since they first opened over 200 years ago and it remains just as popular as it ever was. We go to London to check out the new — the Millennium Bridge and the British Museum's Great Court, and admire the old — well-wrapped mummies and a rare Leonardo. After bantering with Beefeaters at the Tower of London, we do some riverside beachcombing. Strolling the trendy South Bank of the Thames takes us from the Tate Modern to the dizzying London Eye. © 2004 Rick Steves' Europe
Here's a wonderful 30 minute programme about one of my favourite places Oxford University Museum "Take One Museum" The presenter explorer and deep sea diver Paul Rose beautifully expresses an irrepressible excitement on visiting this extraordinary place the same as I felt when I visited this wonderful Victorian cathedral and time capsule to the study of natural science. The steel and glass roof designed and built by Skidmore the designer of the The great Chrystal Palace emits a wondrous light that illuminates this mystical museum space where all the Victorian greats of natural history once met in this building to debate Darwinism. Anyone visiting the museums of Oxford could do no better than make this one top of their list to visit. The building is the forerunner to the Natural History Muse...
Stanton Williams and Asif Khan, the team behind the competition-winning scheme to create a new home for the Museum of London, give a talk at New London Architecture. The winning scheme, chosen from a shortlist by a panel including Simon Jenkins (who praised the process as the best he has ever seen), puts temporary and permanent collections underground beneath ‘expressed arches’, where other ideas at this stage include creating an aperture to allow visitors to see passing underground trains. OPEN ME!: I'm back! It's been like a week but it feels longer. So glad to finally have Day 3 ready for you all, I promise Day 4 won't take as long. Day 3 was a great day. We went to the Museum of London (one of my favorite museums to visit!) and then had an awesome lunch at one of my favorite places. Then I split up from Mom and Lisa and went to see a friend who lived nearby. Later I met back up with Mom and Lisa and had an amazing latte and then we went to dinner before taking the Tube back to our hotel. I hope you enjoy coming along with us today! :) xx Fair warning for future London vlogs: I'm having a tough time editing these below 20 minutes, so if you don't like long vlogs I'm sorry, but not sorry lol. In London - she must bd in London.
In London - she must have gone to London.
Just two weeks of harmony.
Days we spent so easily.
In London - she must be in London.
Hurry me - we fell in love in London.
Our love alive
swept in its tide
That city wide - London.
No street too long
our love belonged
Along the lanes of London.
Those afternoons
back in our room
Making love until the moon rose over london.
She's now alone in London.
Where to start - now that I'm in London?
Standing here this rainy day
So alone and out of place without her.
she must be in London.
Our love alive
swept in its tide
