Mario Bava (31 July 1914 – 27 April 1980) was an Italian director, screenwriter, special effects artist and cinematographer from the "golden age" of Italian horror films. His work kick-started the giallo film genre and the modern "slasher film".
Mario Bava was born in Sanremo, Liguria on 31 July 1914. He is the son of Eugenio Bava (1886-1966), a sculptor who also worked as a special effects photographer and cameraman in the Italian silent movie industry. Mario Bava's first ambition was to become a painter. Unable to turn out paintings at a profitable rate, he went into his father's business, working as an assistant to other Italian cinematographers like Massimo Terzano. He also helped his father at the special effects department at Benito Mussolini's film factory, the Istituto LUCE.
Bava became a cinematographer in his own right in 1939, shooting two short films with Roberto Rossellini. He made his feature debut in the early 1940s. Bava's camerawork was an instrumental factor in developing the screen personas of such stars of the period as Gina Lollobrigida, Steve Reeves and Aldo Fabrizi.

Best scenes of Bava's movies. Here, in the first part, the scenes are taken from " La maschera del demonio" (Black Sunday) 1960 ; "La ragazza che sapeva troppo" (The girl who knew too much) 1963; "I tre volti della paura" (Black Sabbath) 1963; "Sei donne per l'assassino (Blood and black lace) 1964 and "Operazione paura" (Kill baby, kill!) 1966! Mario Bava is known as the first great director of the italian horror: his movies are miliar stones for directors like Argento, Tarantino, Burton, Dante, Romero, Craven and many others who took many ideas from Bava making them often stereotypical in most recent movies. eg: the killer with a raincoat and the mask, razor as a fatal wapon, a dropping sink or a telephone ringing when we are alone as elements to create suspense etc Bava is also famous fo...
Peter y E...

Mario Bava was born on July 30, 1914, in San Remo, Italy. The son of cinematographer/special effects designer Eugenio Bava, young Mario grew up surrounded by film. So strong was his father's influence on him that Mario gave up his initial desire to be a painter to pursue a career as a cinematographer. He got his break in the 1930s, assisting his father initially, and then branching off as a distinguished cinematographer in his own right. By the 1950s, Bava's innovative lighting techniques and his genius at creating realistic special effects on a shoestring cemented him as one of Italy's top film technicians. Hired by his friend, director Riccardo Freda, to provide the lighting and special effects for I VAMPIRI (1956, aka THE DEVIL'S COMMANDMENT), he ended up directing half of the film in a...
SIX MODELS. SIX VICTIMS FOR A CRAZED MASKED KILLER. The Cristian Haute Couture fashion house is a home to models… and backstabbing… and blackmail… and drug deals… and MURDER. Having established a template for the giallo with The Girl Who Knew Too Much, Mario Bava set about cementing its rules with Blood and Black Lace. In doing so he created one of the most influential films ever made – an Italian classic that would spearhead the giallo genre, provide a prototype for the slasher movie, and have a huge effect on filmmakers as diverse as Dario Argento and Martin Scorsese. Newly restored from the original camera negative and presented here in its original, uncut Italian form, this dual-format release allows fans to see Blood and Black Lace afresh and offers newcomers the ideal introduction...
