Our conversation continues with Dr. Ola Orekunrin, founder of Flying Doctors Nigeria. In part 5, Dr Orekunrin highlights the rising double burden of infectious and non-infectious diseases such as heart disease in Africa. Dr. Orekunrin recently featured as one of Forbes Africa’s ‘100 Most Influential Women’ for her work bringing trauma care to the most remote parts of Western Africa. As a British-Nigerian doctor and helicopter pilot, she founded the Flying Doctors Nigeria, West Africa’s first air ambulance service. Flying Doctors Nigeria has featured on BBC and CNN as well as local broadcast media. Dr Orekunrin is also known for her inspirational entrepreneurial advice and has given a TEDx Berlin talk about the strength of women in business called ‘Womenomics’.
