UB40 are a British reggae/pop band formed in December 1978 in south Birmingham, England. The band has had more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart, and has also achieved considerable international success. They have been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album four times, and in 1984 were nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group. One of the world's best-selling music artists, UB40 have sold over 70 million records. The ethnic makeup of the band's original line-up was diverse, with musicians of English, Scottish, Irish, Yemeni and Jamaican parentage.
Their hit singles include their debut "Food for Thought" and two US Billboard Hot 100 number ones with "Red Red Wine" and "Can't Help Falling in Love". Both of these also topped the UK Singles Chart, as did the band's version of "I Got You Babe".
The band's lineup was stable for nearly 29 years, from March 1979 until January 2008, when frontman Ali Campbell left the band; followed shortly thereafter by keyboardist Mickey Virtue. Another member, Astro, remained with the band until November 2013; when he departed the original band to team up with Campbell and Virtue in a new version of UB40. In 2014, legal advice was sought by the original band (now consisting of remaining co-founding members drummer Jimmy Brown, guitarist Robin Campbell, bassist Earl Falconer, percussionist Norman Hassan, and saxophonist Brian Travers, along with new vocalist Duncan Campbell) against the group containing Campbell, Virtue, and Astro over usage of the band name, due to it being used by both parties.
A bar (also known as a saloon or a tavern or sometimes a pub or club, referring to the actual establishment, as in pub bar or club bar etc.) is a retail business establishment that serves alcoholic beverages, such as beer, wine, liquor, cocktails, and other beverages like mineral water and soft drinks and often sell snack foods, like crisps or peanuts, for consumption on premises. Some types of bars, such as pubs, may also serve food from a restaurant menu.
Bars provide stools or chairs that are placed at tables or counters for their patrons. Some bars have entertainment such as a live band, Bars that offer entertainment or live music are often referred to as music bars, live venues, or nightclubs. Types of bars range from inexpensive dive bars to elegant places of entertainment often accompanying restaurants for dining.
Many bars have a discount period, designated a "happy hour" to encourage off-peak-time patronage. Bars that fill to capacity sometimes implement a cover charge or a minimum drink purchase requirement during their peak hours. Bars may have bouncers to ensure patrons are of legal age, to eject drunk or fighting patrons, and to collect cover charges. Such bars often feature entertainment, which may be a live band, vocalist, comedian, or disc jockey playing recorded music.
Signing Off is the debut album by British reggae band UB40, released in the UK on 29 August 1980 by Dudley-based independent label Graduate Records. It was an immediate success in their home country, reaching number 2 on the UK albums chart, and made UB40 the most popular reggae band in Britain, several years before the band found international fame. The politically-concerned lyrics struck a chord in a country with widespread public concerns about high unemployment, the policies of the recently elected Conservative party under Margaret Thatcher, and the rise of the racist National Front party, while the record's dub-influenced rhythms reflected the late 1970s influence in British pop music of West Indian music introduced by immigrants from the Caribbean after the Second World War, particularly reggae and ska – this was typified by the 2 Tone movement, at that point at the height of its success and led by fellow West Midlands act The Specials, with whom UB40 drew comparisons due to their multiracial band line-up and socialist views.

UB40 are one of the most successful British acts of all time, with a huge string of hits on both sides of the Atlantic and around the globe. In the UK only three groups (The Beatles, Queen & The Shadows) can claim more hit singles and they've also clocked up 14 Top 10 albums. To date, 2002 is the band's only appearance at the Montreux Festival but clearly inspired them to produce one of their finest performances. Like what you see? Share, comment, like and subscribe! Watch AMBY's exclusive interview with UB40! It was pretty surreal interviewing a band I’ve been listening to since birth. Yes, you read that right – since I was a wee little one, my parents would play me UB40, and ’til this day that wonderful tradition hasn’t stopped. This video was made because as a fan for years and years people need to understand there has only ever been one UB40 and they go strong as an amazing band. Ali Campbell left and is trying to use the name to sell tickets because he couldn't sell Ali Campbell! he has contradicted himself so many times and told stories which just obviously aren't true. I have never seen UB40 respond to Ali's stories and alligations despite all the negative and wild press he storms against the band and it doesn't seem right to me! This chronicles the break up as it was. It's very clear Ali left the band to go solo and this nonsense about two UB40's is absolutely absurd.
