UK National Drugs helpline: 0800 77 66 00

The National Drugs Helpline is a 24-hour, seven-days a week, free and confidential telephone service that offers advice and information for those who are concerned, or have questions, about drugs. The service is available to anyone.

Callers might be drug users, recovering or past users, friends, family, colleagues or contacts of drug users.

If you have any questions or concerns which urban75 has been unable to answer - or if you just want to find our a bit more, the National Drugs Helpline is just a 'Freefone' call away (within the UK only). As well as information over the phone, the National Drugs Helpline can send out a wide range of printed literature which is free of charge.

The Helpline not only provides advice but also confidential counselling to callers who think they have a drug related problem. All staff employed on the Helpline are experienced drug workers. Each has a minimum of two years relevant experience, and many are qualified counsellors.

These are typical questions put to the Helpline staff:
  • What should I do if my son/daughter is on drugs?
  • Why do people try drugs?
  • Does smoking cannabis lead to taking harder drugs like heroin?
  • What are the risks of taking illegal drugs?
  • How long after taking a drug can it be detected in my body?
  • Where can I get more help locally?

Special note:
This site is all about harm reduction. We realise that some people will take drugs no matter what advice they are given, so we have reproduced this guide for information purposes only. It is not medical advice. If you are being coerced into taking drugs, or are in any doubt about taking a substance, our advice is to always refuse.
