Star Musketeer Bismarck (星銃士ビスマルク, Sei Jūshi Bisumaruku), also known as simply Bismark, is a Japanese animated television series created by Studio Pierrot.
The series aired on Nippon Television from October 7, 1984 to September 25, 1985, totaling 51 episodes. In 1986, the rights to Bismark were sold to the United States company World Events Productions (WEP). WEP reorganized and rewrote the series, incorporating both original episodes and creating six new ones before releasing it under the name Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs.
In the distant future, humanity has explored beyond Earth and colonized both the inner and outer planets of the Solar System. In order to protect the colonies and maintain law and order in the solar system, the Earth Federation Government (EFG) was created. Soon, many settlers started to resent the EFG's and its sphere of influence, straining the relationship between the central government and the colonies.
While a strained peace was being forged between Earth and the colonies, a race of non-human creatures known as Deathcula invaded the System. Without provocation, they attacked the colonies and killed many of the colonists. The EFG quickly realized that the Deathcula were technologically superior and their forces were hopelessly outmatched. In order to have a chance at survival, Dr. Charles Louvre developed a transformable starship known as the Bismarck.
Otto Eduard Leopold, Prince of Bismarck, Duke of Lauenburg (1 April 1815 – 30 July 1898), known as Otto von Bismarck, was a conservative Prussian statesman who dominated German and European affairs from the 1860s until 1890. In the 1860s he engineered a series of wars that unified the German states, significantly and deliberately excluding Austria, into a powerful German Empire under Prussian leadership. With that accomplished by 1871 he skillfully used balance of power diplomacy to preserve German hegemony in a Europe which, despite many disputes and war scares, remained at peace. For historian Eric Hobsbawm, it was Bismarck who "remained undisputed world champion at the game of multilateral diplomatic chess for almost twenty years after 1871, [and] devoted himself exclusively, and successfully, to maintaining peace between the powers."
In 1862, King Wilhelm I appointed Bismarck as Minister President of Prussia, a position he would hold until 1890 (except for a short break in 1873). He provoked three short, decisive wars against Denmark, Austria, and France, aligning the smaller German states behind Prussia in defeating his arch-enemy France. In 1871 he formed the German Empire with himself as Chancellor, while retaining control of Prussia. His diplomacy of realpolitik and powerful rule at home gained him the nickname the "Iron Chancellor." German unification and its rapid economic growth was the foundation to his foreign policy. He disliked colonialism but reluctantly built an overseas empire when it was demanded by both elite and mass opinion. Juggling a very complex interlocking series of conferences, negotiations and alliances, he used his diplomatic skills to maintain Germany's position and used the balance of power to keep Europe at peace in the 1870s and 1880s.

This clip was created out of popular demand, depicting the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck in May of 1941. This clip was also created using a number of resources during this historical period to be as accurate as possible and as much as the lyrics of the song with allow. It took a great deal of time and effort for each of the individual images to be drawn. Therefore, I do apologize for any inaccuracies there are on historical figures or the appearance of historical figures. Sei Jushi Bismarck, 1987, the series that would later become known as Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs. Fireball = Shinji Hikari. Saber Rider = Gabriel Lance. April = Marianne. Colt = Beat (I think). You'll get to see A LOT of things that were cut from Saber Rider here, including the fact that Fireball was the actual team leader, NOT the steed-riding hero we all know and love. Enjoy!

An AMV I made to Johnny Horton's Sink the Bismark. Set to Space Battleship Yamato (Starblazers)
Epic transformation of Ramrod Equalizer Unit into the giant robot "Big Sheriff" (AKA Bismarck / Ariete) from the classic cartoon "Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs". This 80's cartoon was an adaptation from the japanese anime "Sei Jūshi Bismarck". The main difference between the japanese version from the american was the main character, Fireball (the japanese young rider) whereas the leader in the adaptation was Saber, it was possible thanks to a hard edition work where most of the scenes of Fireball were deleted by showing a few more of Saber's. Although there are some others as the cutting of violent scenes in order to make a PG-13 cartoon for american audience. Also, the original intro "Call me" was changed for the wide known and awesome opening "Saber Rider" composed by Dale Schacker...

http://www.tomrichey.net In the second part of my lecture on German Unification, I discuss Otto von Bismarck's employment of "realpolitik" to rally the German people around his plan for a unified Germany under Prussian dominance. Bismarck created the first European welfare state in order to weaken the Social Democratic Party (which he banned) and supported liberals who wanted to industrialize Prussia while not supporting their liberal political reforms. Through the skillful use of realpolitik, Bismarck set the stage for the unification of Germany through "Blood and Iron." If you missed Part I, here it is: http://youtu.be/Y2SlWfmwQik
*** Discussion on the original Iron Chancellor, Otto Von Bismarck. One of Europe's leading statesmen in the 19th Century he is credited with unifying Germany under the military might of his home state of Prussia. An enthusiastic expansionist, Bismarck undertook a war against Denmark that has become a by-word for incomprehensible conflict. The British Prime Minister, Lord Palmerston, said: “The Schleswig-Holstein question is so complicated, only three men in Europe have ever understood it. One was Prince Albert, who is dead. The second was a German professor who became mad. I am the third and I have forgotten all about it.”After vanquishing Austria and France, Bismark led the new industrialising Germany, managing to remain in power for a further two decades. Bismarck said: “The art of state...

http://www.tomrichey.net In the first part of my lecture on German Unification (Deutsche Einigung), I discuss German Nationalism in the early 19th century and the attempt to unify Germany on the basis of liberal nationalism after the Revolutions of 1848. The Frankfurt Parliament met and drafter a constitution for a unified Germany and offered the crown to Frederick William IV of Prussia, but he declined the "pig's crown" and German Unification would have to wait for Bismark's realpolitik.
